I'm using Woocommerce with PayPal Standard as my shopping cart on a WordPress site. When a user purchases through PayPal, there is a 'Return to Merchant' link that the user has to click in order to get back to my website. It currently has my PayPal email address as the link, which is very confusing, as a user wouldn't think to click "Return to [email address]" in order to get back to a website. How can I make that link text the 'name of my website' instead of my email address?
I have "Auto Return" turned on with a web page specified in my PayPal Website Payment Preferences. However, it doesn't seem to auto return, leaving me with this merchant return link that isn't intuitive to click. I'm using the Sandbox to test the payment process...don't know if that makes a difference to this problem.
I'm assuming that the settings to change this link text are in PayPal and not in WooCommerce (couldn't find anything at all like that in my WooCommerce settings). If it is a WooCommerce issue, I will post on the appropriate forum. Thought I'd try PayPal first. Thanks.
Unfortunately there is no setting to alter the return link on the hosted page.
One of the limitations of the auto return feature is that if both the "auto return" and "account optional" features are turned on, customers who don't log in to PayPal can choose to go back to your website after checkout (using the link), but aren’t returned automatically.
You can navigate to either of these features on the "Website Preferences" page and click "Learn More" to confirm this.
In sandbox mode it seams to display your email address. Turning off sandbox mode you should see your business name now.

I have implemented Paypal Express Checkout on my website. So far everything seems to work in my sandbox, except that the payments are not processed. Every payment is "pending".
The only reason I get is
RECEIVING_PREFERENCE_MANDATES_MANUAL_ACTION
in the API response after executing the payment via API.
I cannot find any documentation on the reason, does anyone know how to fix it?
You have probably already solved the problem, but maybe someone else has similar problem.
I believe the reason for this is because the payments are in a currency that you do not hold, you need to configure your Payment Receiving Preferences in your PayPal account. Otherwise, your payment status might be pending until you manually approve the payment in your PayPal account.
Log in to your PayPal business account at www.paypal.com. Click the profile icon (Profile menu) on the top right side of the page. From the Business Profile menu, select Profile and Settings. (Note: If you do not see the profile icon on the top right, select Profile which appears in the top menu when the My Account tab is selected.)
From the left menu, click My selling tools.
In/under the Getting paid and managing my risk section, click the Update link for the Block Payments item.
Update Allow payments sent to me in a currency I do not hold to "Yes, accept and convert them to U.S. Dollars") and click Save.
I'm working on a website where the users can create listings like in a regular classifieds website.
My concern is that if a user wants to feature his listing on the website, he has to make a payment via Paypal (IPN). The problem is that when the user completes the payment, the paypal payment confirmation page will give the user 2 links at the bottom of the confirmation page. The first one is "return to your website" and the second one is "view your paypal account".
If the user clicks the first link it will trigger the featured option and make his listing featured. However if he clicks the second link the user will be sent to his paypal account and will not trigger the featured option.
My concern is that users who will click the second link will pay however will not get the service they paid for. This portion of the website was done by my developer and he said that it would only work if the user clicks the "return on your website" link.
Would you guys have any suggestions or help on how to resolve this? If Paypal did not show the second link it would resolve this pb.
That's what IPN is for. If you enable it, PayPal will send you a payment notification. You should enable the feature for the user when you get the money, regardless of what the user navigates to.
We send people to PayPal to either donate or subscribe to our site.
We have guest access enabled, when you start a fresh session and navigate to our donate page and click the button, you get a nice 'guest' checkout page.
But, if you log in to PayPal and then logout again, you don't get this form on your next donate, you get the 'login' form.
I'd like to be able to force all users to the Guest form if possible. I know that there are a bunch of features not available to us lowly 'donate button' users (as opposed to Express Checkout and the like) but surely I could pass a param that forced the Guest form?
Answering my own question here.
Can you force PayPal Payments Standard API to show credit card fields first?
Is it possible to have PayPal standard expand the 'Guest Payments' tab by default?
Its all based on the PayPal cookie and there's nothing that allows you to override that.
EDIT This has been confirmed by PayPal support.
If there is a cookie, or if you provide an email like WooCommerce does by default PayPal will assume you have an account. See my answer in Paypal Payment Standard default enter card details
i have some difficulties creating test account in sandbox. I found some similar topics but i still can't understand what to do.
For example this one "How to create test account with PayPal Payments Pro (Use to represent yourself as a merchant using Pro) option selected in sandbox?"
It says login in developers site, ok, done with that. Then "click on the link Preconfigured". What link? I can't find it. It just does not exist on that page and on any other that i searched.
Why i cannot login to https://www.sandbox.paypal.com with my seller account from sandbox, but it's possible to login using clients accounts (personal) from sandbox.
Do i need to apply to Paypal Payments Pro after i registered my sandbox account, and if i need why do i get "Service is not responding due to an internal error. Please contact customer service at +1-888-883-9770.". Also what social security number do i have to use(i just want to check integration with paypal, i dont have any bank accounts or social security numbers. i'm not even from usa)?
Do i need to accept licence agreement and where can i find it? According to this document https://ppmts.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/642/kw/10501 it's located somewhere inside the "Merchant Services" tab. After about an hour of search i found it in old interface. When i click it i'm being redirected to "My account".
Please, help me somebody. I'm sick and tired of that buggy, laggy and terribly designed paypal's site.
Once you are logged into developer.paypal.com, click "Applicatons", then click "Sandbox accounts". You see a blue button at the top of the page that says "Create Account". When you create a business account, you will automatically be signed up for PayPal Payments Pro.
You can then grab your API credentials by clicking the "Profile" link from developer.paypal.com.
Edit:
Updating answer with additional information about creating test accounts.

For some reason PayPal won't redirect to my site after a payment is confirmed.
I have set auto return and set a valid url.
I have set a hidden param of return to the same url.
It just shows me a payment complete page with a link back to my site (the same url as above). If i click this then it takes me back to my site - hence I know the url is valid.
I just want this to happen automatically, which is what is supposed to happen if I set these options is it not?
Why is paypal so cumbersome? Or am I missing the blindingly obvious?
I'm using paypal standard with a business account.
Go to profile website preference page and turn on the auto return option.
Edit:
In addition to the answer posted above, to turn on the auto return option, follow the below links:
Click on Profile underneath the My Account Tab
Click on My Selling Tools on the left hand side
Select the update option next to
Website preferencesReturn customers to my website after they pay with PayPal.
Locate the option to turn on Auto Return and proceed accordingly.
N.B. Over the past weeks trying to implement PayPal, I have come to understand that Paypal have a very confusing website and documentation and very often you may find contradicting things. So please note that the set of links above may change at a moment's notice. - DottoreM
From #AlexSchimp's comment above:
If the user pays with a credit or debit card, and doesn't log into PayPal it won't work. It only works if the user logs into their PayPal account.
The "Website payment preference" auto return URL functionality will only work for the payments processed via "WPS (Website Payments Standard)" i,e PayPal HTML button integration payments.
<input type="hidden" name="return" value="http://example.com/returnurl" />

I hope it will work for you.
