I'm building an iOS app in xcode 7. I have the standart launch screen that was autogenerated with the project, with an image view in it. I has been working fine for a while, but suddenly when I run the app, the image appears in completely black. See screen show of problem:
This only happens when I run the app on my device (iPhone 6), when I run the app on the simulator, the launche screen is as it is suppose to.
The problem occured after i edited som constraints in my storyboard, complete unrelated.
The image that is loaded is added to the project as a regular file, not in xcassets.
When i put a new, identical, image into the project the same way as the old image, it fixes the problem, but only for a couple of hours, then it happends again.
Any suggestions? I'm puzzled.!
Experienced this problem again 1.5 years after question was asked.
I was able to solve the problem by rebooting the iPhone :S
I'm using the same iPhone 6 as when the question was asked, now on Xcode 8.3.1

When I launch the app through the Xcode in my Iphone 6s, the app is being launched zoomed. The specific app is already on the app store with all the assets and launch images set correctly and everything was working fine. All the resolutions were correct for all IOS devices. But now, after I launched it again through the xcode as I want to make an update the app is being launched zoomed. Any ideas why this is happening? I managed to test it only in Iphone 6s.
Happened to me when I gave a wrong resolution to the splash image (750x1134 instead of 750x1334). I guess Xcode assumes you want to use the app with that resolution overall and adapts accordingly. Was fixed when I gave the correct resolution splash image.
At least I didn't find a solution and what caused this issue, but I used the storyboard file as a launch screen which was much easier to develop.
I followed the instructions in this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/12397309/1084932 to update my app for the new iPhone 5 screen size. Great, worked perfectly!
But, I am not quite ready to make this update and wish to roll back to the letterbox setup for now. I tried deleting Default-568h#2x.png to see if that would work, but my app still fills up the full iPhone 5 screen even without the Default-568h#2x.png file.
Anyone know how to undo the auto resizing for iPhone 5 after adding Default-568h#2x.png?
[EDIT] I have not tired with an iPhone 5 device, but my question is specifically with the simulator.
Try doing Product --> Clean in Xcode
And delete the app from the phone and build again.
Sometimes the Default.png image gets cached
I build my Corona app for iPhone Simulator, and it running well. But if I installed my app on my device(iPad), and i have many issues(no scrollview and tabbar working) buttons is visible only.
How to solve the problem?
Look at what happens when you run it in the iPad simulator- Do you get any errors in the console if you check it while running the app on your iPad? If so this could shed some light on the issue. One possibility is a corrupted image, or an incorrect image format.
If only the buttons are visible it sounds like you app has an error that is preventing all of the display objects from loading. (Just based on the fact you mention your buttons display but nothing else.)
I recently started using Xcode 4.2 and the iOS 5 simulator. When I update an older version of my app pre-installed in the simulator, it updates the app just fine but the app icon is not updated. Even with cleaning and building the app ahead of time (sometimes a couple of times) this seems to be the case. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Still the same problem, but when I quit the simulator and start it again (NOT deleting the app), the icon is updated. That's a little encouraging at least. Has anyone else experienced this?
I've had this problem for a while and cleaning the project didn't work either. I finally found a trick to do this. It works at least in iOS 6, I'm not sure in previous versions. The trick is to simply move the app to a folder. The moment you move it there it should display the new icon, and then you can move it out again.
Despite others' answers, it would appear that your problem is a bug.
It would probably be wise to report this. Otherwise, try making a new project and trying again.
Hope all goes as planned.
Theres a new category in the plist file called Icons Files (iOS 5.0). Try adding those file names to your target info like so:
In this tab:
The names and size much also be exact. See this Apple Technical Q&A #1686:
57x57 - Icon.png
114x114 - Icon#2x.png
72x72 - Icon-72.png
50x50 - Icon-Small-50.png
29x29 - Icon-Small.png
58x58 - Icon-Small#2x.png
I ran into a similar problem after renaming the app and adding the Icon files category as described in one of the other answers. No icon would show up in either simulator or device. Tried a clean build as well as restarting simulator and Xcode, no success
The solution for me was to drag the icons from my Resources to the two empty wells under App Icons located under Targets -> Summary. After that my icons showed up in both simulator and device. I´m running Xcode 4.3.1
this works for me.
In iOS Simulator :
iOS Simulator -> Reset Content and Settings
Be aware that it removes all things from the simulator to the trash... but it does work.
Make sure of icons sizes are right at the Image Asset folder
I'm trying to learn iOS development, and have run into a problem that has stopped any and all progress. Whenever I build and run my code on the simulator, I just get a blank grey screen! I can't find any help on the subject, so I turn to you wonderful people here. I have no idea what's wrong. Even when I start a new blank project and build/run it, I get a blank grey screen. It seems like something is wrong in xcode that's preventing my MainWindow.xib file to be used.
Like I said, I'm just learning, so I don't have much experience as to how this all works.
Try this: with iOS Simulator active, select Window->Scale->50%. This worked for me after frustrating hours and hours of restarting the computer, reinstalling Xcode, and searching the Web. Turned out there was nothing wrong with iOS Simulator, just that the default Scale of 100% hid all the icons. OS X 10.9.3, Xcode 5.1.1, iOS Simulator 7.1.
Some of the sample project templates (e.g. 'view based application') don't show anything interesting - only a grey screen (bceause it's up to you to actually add something to the view). But if you create a new "Navigation based application" sample project, you'll see a blue nav bar and an empty table in your app.
