Good day everyone. I'm using Eclipse Luna and trying to use EGit tools but, it isn't working anymore.
I only see apply patch in the "team" option:
Import -> git projects isn't showing as well :
I checked preferences, and I didn't see git as well
I tried to switch workspace, running eclipse with -clean parameter, but it didn't help. I also checked if egit and jgit are installed, and they're installed:
I checked the error Log and I found something:
I hope someone can help me "restore" the Git thingy. Thanks!
Try going to Windows -> Preferences -> General - Capabilities
Then click the ADVANCED button and you should see the GIT not marked
Why installing Git? All Eclipse 4.x versions do come with EGit already installed.

the Subversive SVN Connectors does not appear after rebooting eclipse Juno IDE after installing svn from the eclipse marketplace.
any ideas?
Because of this issue i cannot assign a svn connector to the svn eclipse plugin so therefore it cannot do any svn features at all.
i am running windows 8 and tried to run eclipse in Admin mode but still no joy. anywhere i can download the connectors manually and if so, where do i install it?
Might help someone...
From polarion use this update site.
I installed just
subversive SVN Connectors
SVNKit 1.7.5.v1 Implementation
SVN Team provider connectors source
After this I found in eclipse preferences Team->SVN has the svn kit 1.7.5 selected and everything started to working.
Just remove .metadata folder in your workspace directory and restart
then windows -> preference -> team -> svn click. It will appear
For me, switching to a fresh workspace fixed the issue. I followed this link. The automatic connector discovery tool popped up once I switched to a new workspace.
I cannot add new comments. Just facing same problem. Updating #Saran answer:
Eclipse Mars site is
http://community.polarion.com/projects/subversive/download/eclipse/5.0/mars-site/
Eclipse Luna site is
http://community.polarion.com/projects/subversive/download/eclipse/4.0/luna-site/
Eclipse Kepler site is
http://community.polarion.com/projects/subversive/download/eclipse/3.0/kepler-site/
You can install svn conectors manually from there.
(Remember: Help menu -> Install new software -> paste site url)
Can I suggest the CollabNet Eclipse desktop instead of the Marketplace SVN?
http://desktop-eclipse.open.collab.net/
I've found its installation to be much less painful than any other way of getting SVN into Eclipse.
Switching workspaces worked.
Also for newer Subversive version`s, the connectors show on the:
windows > preferences > team > svn (in a tab inside this window), instead of the old svn > connectors menu.
Close your Eclipse.
In your workspace directory, open (.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings/org.eclipse.team.svn.ui.prefs).
Change the option firstStartup=false to firstStartup=true.
Re-open Eclipse again.
I have Eclipse IDE for Java Developers (Indigo) and have been using it for several months.
I had many installed plugins including a SVN one and e-git.
Then one day, they just all stopped working. For example, I used to be able to commit from the Explorer (using the SVN plugin), but that option has disappeared as if it is not installed.
I have checked the installed software list and they are all present.
Is there a setting somewhere that I may have miss?
Thanks in adavnced!
Please check the error log in workspace/.metadata/.log to see if there is any warnings or errors.
Also, have you tried other perspectives, like plug-in development, or SVN.
Open eclipse
Go to Window -> Show view -> Other -> SVN
Choose new workspace and check out the project that you did
I just installed the EGit plugin for Eclipse, restarted Eclipse and it shows well in the Installed Software list but... I can't find any added menus or access to its features?
What am I missing?
To prove that I am not hallucinating here is a screenshot of the list:
But there is no hint or clue in any of the menus, menu items, perspectives or views that it's there...
No sign in menus:
No sign in projects:
No sign in perspectives:
Do I need to do some additional configuration somewhere to enable it?
Mystery solved.
It turns out that I mistakenly installed Eclipse JGit instead of Eclipse EGit. Once I selected the EGit package instead:
Things went fine:
One letter difference... (E instead of J)
You just installed JGit, and forgot EGit. JGit is just the Git implementation, but doesn't contain any UI contributions. These are all in the EGit plugin (which should also be available in the Update Site).
is there no new perspective available? Is there no "new -> project from git repository" available?
Usually eclipse plugins work if they're listed.
Cheers
edit:
I just installed jGit as well. Here's what I found:
To see it go to: Window -> open Perspective -> other
Also on a rightclick on my projects (as in cvs & svn plugins) -> team I find Git support as well.
Cheers again
edit 2: No "new project from git" here as well.
Note that the Eclipse Classic package in Kepler (4.3 M6, March 2013) now includes Egit directly (see all the packages here).
See the announcement from Martin Oberhuber
With Kepler M6, we've added egit and Marketplace Client to the Eclipse Classic package, which is still the most popular of all Eclipse packages. The request adding git to all packages has been open for long, and after driving it with the Eclipse PMC Markus Knauer has helped me make it happen.
even though there was no error when installing Subclipse in Eclipse. I won't see the SVN perspective at all?
I have tried with "Eclipse Classic 3.5.1" and with "Eclipse for PHP Developers".
After downloading and unzipping the packages I used Eclipse's "Install Software" mechanism to install Subclipse 1.6.x. I followed the steps described here: http://www3.math.tu-berlin.de/jreality/mediawiki/index.php/Subclipse_installation_in_eclipse_galileo.
But after Eclipse re-starts I don't get any SVN Repository perspective? I have tried to un-install/re-install all the software components many times now. Finally after 3 hours of trying I am giving up. Does anyone have any hint what I am missing?
Thanks!
Peter
I had the same problem. I use Windows 7 64 bits OS. I clean read-only flag of eclipse folder in C:\Program Files (x86) and give full access right to all users on my PC. I reinstalled it from update site and it works.
This is a known bug with subclipse: http://subclipse.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=992
EDIT For anyone keeping track of this, it looks like Eclipse Helios SR1 may have fixed the issue. I haven't tested it myself yet, but by the sounds of the discussion at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=322929 it should now be working.
I just had this same issue with Ubuntu. It turned out to be permissions. Once I gave write permissions to everywhere in my eclipse installation and then reinstalled subclipse, its views and so forth appeared, just like magic.
I don't know what you are looking for. But after installing the Subclipse plugin, you should have a new entry in the File | New | Project dialog. Something along the lines of "Checkout project from SVN"
Then when you hit continue, you can enter your SVN repository details, check the branch you are interested in, etc. After checking out a project, you can right click on it and go to the "Team" submenu to get the features provided by Subclipse like check in code, diff, merge, etc.
I ran into the exact same problem too. I installed both Subclipse and GWT/GAE plugins and couldn't find any evidence of them after installation.
I'm on Windows 7 and had installed Eclipse 3.5 SR2 into C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse-3.5. I also put my workspace in C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse-3.5\workspace. When I was checking things I noticed there was a lock icon on the C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse-3.5\workspace.
I reinstalled Eclipse to C:\dev\eclipse and the workspace to C:\dev\eclipse\workspace. After that the installation of the plugins went without a hitch and I could see the SVN Repository Exploring perspective (no idea why some of the other posters claim this perspective doesn't exist). I suspect it was some sort of permissions problem on the directories.
Another way to check and see if the whole thing was installed correctly is to go to the SVN Repositories view. Go to Window -> Show View -> Other, and then search for SVN. If you see a bunch of SVN views like "Repositories," Subclipse is installed.
I had this problem due to some kind of incompatibility between Subclipse and Android ADT plugins. One answer suggested yoxos which gives you all your eclipse plugins from one central repository.
Had the same problem. I work on Linux, and when I installed eclipse in /usr/local/eclipse, Subclipse did not show up. The solution was to install Eclipse locally, e.g. in /home/user/eclipse. Now Subclipse (and other plugins too) worked!
Edit: guess it could be the same on Windows.
I think this is due to some incompatibilities between the packages of subclipse and the gwt 2.x plugin and android... as this started happen to me after I upgrade to v 2.0 of gwt back in the day.
The same issue repeats both on Mac and Windows... and it seems no fix has been released.
Now the only way I've found to move on with my work is to remove subclipse and install the latest subversive plugin instead.
http://www.eclipse.org/subversive/
I know this ain't subclipse but it works very similar and no issues with gwt nor android plugins.
it worked for me and so I hope it works for you in the mean time.
cheers,
G.
How can I install Git on Eclipse? I found tutorials on http://cho.hapgoods.com/wordpress/?p=159 but there was said that "You should then see the eight Eclipse projects 'org.spearce.something.'" I don't see those eight projects.
Just add http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates to your Eclipse update manager.
Do you have Egit installed yet? If not, go to Window->Preferences->Install/Updates->Available Software Sites. Click on add and paste this link http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates
For Name, you can just put "EGit". After you have EGit installed, follow this tutorial. It helped me a lot!
Checkout this tutorial Eclipse install Git plugin – Step by Step installation instruction
Eclipse install Git plugin – Step by Step installation instruction
Step 1) Go to: http://eclipse.org/egit/download/ to get the plugin repository location.
Step 2.) Select appropriate repository location. In my case its http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates
Step 3.) Go to Help > Install New Software
Step 4.) To add repository location, Click Add. Enter repository name as “EGit Plugin”. Location will be the URL copied from Step 2. Now click Ok to add repository location.
Step 5.) Wait for a while and it will display list of available products to be installed. Expend “Eclipse Git Team Provider” and select “Eclipse Git Team Provider”. Now Click Next
Step 6.) Review product and click Next.
Step 7.) It will ask you to Accept the agreement. Accept the agreement and click Finish.
Step 8.) Within few seconds, depending on your internet speed, all the necessary dependencies and executable will be downloaded and installed.
Step 9.) Accept the prompt to restart the Eclipse.
Your Eclipse Git Plugin installation is complete.
To verify your installation.
Step 1.) Go to Help > Install New Software
Step 2.) Click on Already Installed and verify plugin is installed.
egit was included in Indigo (2011) and should be there in all future Eclipse versions after that.
Just go to ![(Help->Install New Software)]
Then Work with: --All Available Sites--
Then type egit underneath and wait (may take a while) !
Then click the checkbox and install.
I made an installation guide for Egit on Eclipse so I thought I would share it.
INSTALL EGIT plugin in eclispe which is pretty easy. If EGit is missing in your Eclipse installation, you can install it via the Eclipse Update Manager via: Help → Install new Software. EGit can be installed from the following URL: http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates
Under Eclipse Git Team Provider, tick ONLY "Eclipse EGit" and then download the plugin.
CONNECT TO YOUR LOCAL REPOSITORY. I right clicked on the project, selected "team > share project" and then ticked "use or create repository"
GIT IGNORE. Mark the "bin" folder as "ignored by Git", either by right-clicking on it and selecting Team > Ignore or by creating a .gitignore file. My file was generated for me, I just had to make it visible. Here's how in eclipse: In your package explorer, pull down the menu and select "Filters ...". You can adjust what types of files are shown/hidden there.
IDENTIFY YOURSELF. Click Preferences > Team > Git > Configuration and make sure your name & email are there so we know which user committed/pushed what.
NOW YOU ARE READY TO ADD/COMMIT/PUSH/PULL files with the plugin!
There are two ways of installing the Git plugin in Eclipse
Installing through Help -> Install New Software..., then add the location http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates/
Installing through Help -> Eclipse Marketplace..., then type Egit and installing it.
Both methods may need you to restart Eclipse in the middle. For the step by step guide on installing and configuring Git plugin in Eclipse, you can also refer to Install and configure git plugin in Eclipse
It's Very Easy To Install By Following Below Steps In Eclipse JUNO version
Help-->Eclipse Marketplace-->Find: beside Textbox u can type "Egit"-->select Egit-git team provider intall button-->follow next steps and finally click finish
You didn't mention which version of Eclipse you are using, but others have already posted good answers for modern versions of Eclipse. Unfortunately one of my legacy projects requires Eclipse Europa; the old EGit project homepage states the following:
The plugin only works on Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) or newer. Eclipse 3.3 (Europa) is not supported anymore. Since the plugin is still very much work-in-progress we want to take advantage of new platforms features to facilitate progress.
So I guess I'm SOL - back to the graphical GitHub client for me! Lucky it's a legacy project.
Try with this link:
http://download.eclipse.org/egit/github/updates
1)Go to Help-> Install new Software
2)Click on Add...
3)Name: eGit
Location:http://download.eclipse.org/egit/github/updates
4)Click on OK
5)Accept the licence.
You are good to go
