Is it possible to create an asset bundle without Unity editor? - unity3d

We need to create asset bundles automatically on our server, but having Unity installed on the server and running it via command line would fit badly in our server design. So we're wondering if there's any other way to create asset bundles. A .Net library you could run from regular .Net would be optimal but we're interested in any solution you may have.

Porting a pywinauto script from Windows to X11/Xlib

In my organization, I have been using pywinauto to automate some UI procedures that could not be done using the sole command line interface.
In an effort to move away from windows, I am evaluating the effort to port the UI automation script to a Linux environment (our tool has a Linux version, including a similar GUI).
I have had a look at the python-xlib project. But I have the feeling that it is more a framework to develop native X11 applications rather than perform tests on an existing application (I could not find anything like find_window etc...).
Do you have any advice for an X11 framework to automate UI procedures?
Based on several inputs, I finally came up with the following suggestions:
use pywinauto which has some beta level of Linux support (this support is based on pyatspi2).
use directly pyatspi2 to interact with the widgets if they are exposed. To browse through the exposed widgets of the application you want to automate, you can use accerciser.
finally, many framework exist to use only click + keys + mouse locations and are based on image comparison. There are many around, I have not yet tested any of them.
Finally, since my script is meant to run in a docker environment in CI, I installed Xvfb to run the automation in headless mode, without graphics HW.

How to create a UWP Package that`s shipping Microsoft.NET.CoreRuntime.1.0 with it

I`m struggling with the following issue:
I try to deploy my uwp app with a Mobile Device Management System (MobileIron). it's only accepts .appxbundle, no .appxupload files. When i try to install/deploy the app on a device, i get the error
Can not install package XY because the package xy has a dependency to Microsoft.NET.CoreRuntime.1.0. This package is needed for the installation. Deploy this Framework together with your package
(my custom translation ;) )
The problem is, I dont know how to create a package, that's shipping the needed CoreRuntime within. When i create a DEBUG Package, i get a appxbundle and a folder with the missing CoreRuntime.appx, but only the powershell script is shipping the CoreRuntime Framework to the Device, not the bundle itself.
When i create a RELEASE Package, it`s running agains .NET Native, in this case i have no CoreRuntime...
Hope i explained my problem good enought and someone can help me or give me a hind.
You need to enable .NET Native, From your Project Properties:
Make sure that your configuration is for Release. And check
Compile with .NET Native tool chain
and
Optimize code
finally make sure to create your packages from Store->Create App Packages. With the following configurations:

Web framework with user-friendly desktop deployment?

I'm building a web app with Backbone.js (I'm not tied to Backbone yet though). I need a back-end framework only for persistence to a database via a RESTful API. However, I also need to able to deploy it as a 'desktop' app for off-line use, i.e. running a local server and launching a browser window, but I don't want users to have to start a server from the command line to run the application.
I can use SQLite as a database since it's only a single user application, it's just the framework that I'm stuck on. I have looked at the following:
Rails and Django: Default web servers are too flimsy, requires Ruby/Python and runs from the command line. I'm aware of the Bitnami stacks but at 99mb it's too big of a dependency and not exactly hidden from the user.
Sproutcore: Run from command line, also too bulky.
Pyjamas Desktop - Depends on MSHTML which I suspect limits my ability to use HTML5 features.
I'm leaning towards creating a Java app that starts a Scala/Lift server instance and opens a web browser, then sits in the system tray (kind of like WAMP). Is anyone familiar with a tool or framework built for user-friendly deployment as a standalone desktop app?
I do not know if PHP is an option for you? Then I would recommend phpdock.
web2py has a standalone deploy-to-desktop feature with no dependency on Python: http://web2py.com/books/default/chapter/29/14#How-to-distribute-your-applications-as-binaries
As Eydun said, phpdock is an option but it's commercially licensed .
I settled on using Java/Spring/H2/Hibernate/Jetty. I find that Jetty serves requests VERY quickly so the application looks real-time when launched in a browser. There is a tutorial on embedding the Jetty server here. I imagine it's quite trivial to build a GUI that launches the server and a browser.
Another Java option is to use the Play Framework, which may be more at home to those coming from a Django/Rails background. However, the documentation for "creating a standalone version of your application" for Play 2.0+ indicates that they have ditched using Java EE containers (Tomcat/Jetty) and WAR files in favor of running the JARs with the bundled copy of JBoss Netty, so it may take a bit of work to get it running the way you want it.
I would recommend the Play Framework approach if you're OK with using/learning Scala.

Make deployment ActiveX control with using ClickOnce for Web

I need to make deployment our ActiveX control(two .dll files) through Web with using ActiveX. I saw that deployment .NET application with using ClickOnce is very easy, just need in VS click Build->Publish, but I can't find how I can make it with ActiveX.
Thanks, Roman
That's not possible, the point of ClickOnce is to not alter the configuration of the target machine in any way. Quite the opposite of what is required to get an ActiveX component functioning, it has to be registered and that requires altering the registry with an admin account.

Creating small setups to deploy dll?

I've been using Inno Setup for deploying and registering a dll, but all the setups generated with InnoSetup have a min size of 500kb while my dll is only like 40kb.
I don't want to use a packer such as UPX because I don't like the way they work.
Is there another free app to create smaller setups for deploying dlls?
Try Nullsoft Installer. Its list of features claims to create only 34KB overhead.
You can also write some WiX scripts to minimize the features included in your installer and bring down its size, while still using the MSI engine. (As a side note, you can also use the ClickThrough to have your dll automatically update)
