How to create a pure organization account on GitHub? - github

As GitHub user I can create an organization. But can I also create an organization account without creating a user?
The background is: I want to create an organization account for a company, but don't want to create a new fake user account, that then would create it. Is it possible to cerate an organistion (user) account without creating a "normal" user (account) before?

Is there a way to reassign all commits and activity from one GitHub/git user to another?

I need to convert a personal GitHub account to an organization. Rather than creating a new account and transferring the repos as recommended in the Git docs, I'd prefer to convert the existing account, which then changes all activity associated with the personal account to the ghost account.
Is there a way to direct what would be assigned to ghost, to an existing github personal account -before- converting to an organization? In other words: reassign all personal activity associated with this account to another existing personal account?

Is an organisation on GitHub a user or just a repositories container that needs a user?

As GitHub user I can create an organization. What i don't understand -- Is an organisation independent?
Is it a repositories container, that needs a (user) account it belongs to or
is it for itself an (organization) account GitHub user (and doesn't need any personal user account)? Is it then correct to say, that an organization is a "featured user" account -- an account with all the features of a personal user account (especially code management, commenting etc.) and some additional functionality?
The biggest difference between user accounts and organizations is team-based permissions for the repositories owned by the organization.
This means you can have team members under your organization and let them interact more aggressively with your repositories compared to plain contributors.
I'd say the concept of a GitHub organization is pretty independent from a plain GitHub user - they aren't the same thing. See for example how you can convert a user to an organization https://help.github.com/articles/converting-a-user-into-an-organization/
With that being said, organizations have what they call owners.
You can have multiple owners (i.e you can invite people to be owner of your organization along with you) but an organization cannot have zero owner.
For example, when you create an organization while logged under your account, the default first owner of the organization you just created is yourself.
Here's a more detailed list about the differences between a user and an organization
https://help.github.com/articles/what-s-the-difference-between-user-and-organization-accounts/
An organization is not a user, it doesn't have a password and you cannot log into an organization like you can to a personal/user account. But an organization can own repositories, which can be made accessible to actual persons/users who have passwords and can login.

AppVeyor account for GitHub organization

I'm part of a GitHub organization developing a FOSS project. I'd like to run CI tests on Windows using AppVeyor. Currently I see my own fork of the project, and some other forks from people who have named me collaborator in GitHub. I don't see the upstream of the project, though. Apparently me being an administrator of the GitHub organization isn't enough to offer access to it in AppVeyor. But probably setting this up under my account would be the wrong approach anyway. Probably this should be under the name of the organization.
Towards that end, I'd like to have an AppVeyor account for this organization, with suitable permissions for its members. Reading http://www.appveyor.com/docs/team-setup it sounds as if AppVeyor could distinguish between users (with unique email and password) and accounts (to which projects belong), and a single user apparently can belong to multiple accounts while one account can have multiple users with different roles. In that sense, I'd like to create a new account without creating a user for it. Instead I as an existing user, identified by GitHub login, would like to become the first administrator of this new account, and ready to change settings and add more users. How do I do this?
You can't create a new account without a user. Just use some your email/password to create an account, then add existing user as collaborator.

Bluemix unable to view add new user link in bluemix despite having manager role

Trying to add users to the organization space.
Despite being listed as a manager, not able to view any link to invite users.
Appreciate any suggestions.
Go to manage organization page (not space page), and you should see something like this:
Then, use Invite a New User link.
Also, in same page, double check your user id has a tick on MANAGER column.
Hope this helps.
Are you trying to add users to your own organization (or) an organization are you invited to ?
From Bluemix documentation here :
Users
The basic role in organizations and spaces. You must be assigned to an organization before you can be granted permissions to the spaces within the organization.
In Bluemix, you can be either a member or a collaborator of an organization:
You are a collaborator of an organization if you already have a Bluemix account, and someone else invites you to the organization.
You are a member of an organization if you don't have a Bluemix account, but then someone invites you to the organization and you sign up for Bluemix from the invitation.
Note: You cannot invite users to your organization if you are a collaborator of the organization, even if you were assigned as an organization manager. Therefore, if you previously registered for a Bluemix account before you were invited to this organization, you cannot invite users, regardless of your role. See Unable to add users to an organization for information about how to work around this problem.
Only the owner of the organization can invite any new users.
You can try inviting users from your own organization. (the one which come by default with the name as your Bluemix Id).

Sitecore - Is there a way to clone/duplicate a user in the User Manager?

I have an account setup exactly the way I'd like a number of individuals accounts setup and I'd like to create them as clones of this account so the get the initial set of permissions without me having to manually set all the permission on each account.
Note: It is fine (ideal?) if once the accounts are created that they no longer have a relationship with the original account. For instance, if User A is the base account that is being used to create all the other accounts, once User B is made from User A then all further changes on User A will not be reflected on User B.
Any ideas?
In answer to your question: no, there is no clone/copy user feature in the User Editor in Sitecore.
It sounds like you would be better off creating a role with all these permissions, then assigning this role to any new users you create. You could then modify the permissions of the individual users as necessary.
Note this would not be the ideal solution as it's always better to apply security to roles rather than individual users.
Perhaps you could achieve what you need by creating a collection of roles and assigning different combinations of them to each user?
Try installing this Sitecore Module. This will clone the user in User Manager
SITECORE USER CLONE
Sitecore User Clone is used to create the copy of the user with the same roles, name, email, and profile. It will prompt to accept the new username, password and all the editable fields same like Edit user.
