Using .try with ["posted-field"] rather than symbol :posted-field - sinatra

I am using Sinatra.
-I am receiving webhooks from a 3rd party.
-The fields sent form the webhook vary from post to post.
-I am using the syntax ["field"] rather than [:field] for the par in my model due to it being a Sinatra app.
Model
def self.fields_hash_from_data(d)
{
field1: d["payload"]["some-field"]["that-appeared-in-this-webhook"]
field2: d["payload"]["some-field"]["that-did-not-appear-in-this-webhook"]
}
end
Controller
def method
json = request.body.read
data = JSON.parse(json)
new_values = data.map do |d|
Model.fields_hash_from_data(d)
end
Model.create(new_values_for_telematics)
end
-I cannot use .try with this syntax- ["field"] because all the fields appear as nil, even when they have values.
-If i do not use .try, undefined method `[]' for nil:NilClass appears for the empty fields
Is there an alternative to .try I can use in this case?

Play Framework request attributes with typed key

I seem to have issues accessing the attributes of the request attributes map in Play. Following the explanation offered by Play (Link), I should get the correct data from the attributes, but the Option is returned as None.
My structure is as follows. One controller (later injected named as "sec") has the typed attribute for shared access to it:
val AuthenticatedAsAttr: TypedKey[AuthenticatedEmail] = TypedKey("AuthenticatedAs")
The type AuthenticatedEmail is defined in the companion object of this controller as a case class:
case class AuthenticatedEmail(email: String)
The filter passes the attribute to the next request:
val attrs = requestHeader.attrs + TypedEntry[AuthenticatedEmail](sec.AuthenticatedAsAttr, AuthenticatedEmail(email))
nextFilter(requestHeader.withAttrs(attrs))
When trying to then access this attribute in another controller, the returned Option is None:
val auth = request.attrs.get(sec.AuthenticatedAsAttr)
I confirmed via println that the value is definitely in request.attrs but run out of options to debug the issue successfully. A fraction of the println output below.
(Request attrs,{HandlerDef -> HandlerDef(sun.misc .... ,POST, ... Cookies -> Container<Cookies(Cookie ... , AuthenticatedAs -> AuthenticatedEmail(a#test.de), ... })
My Scala version is 2.12.6, Play Framework version 2.6.18. Any help is highly appreciated.
It turns out that the TypedKey must be within an object, not an inject-able controller. So moving it to an object like the following resolves the issue:
object Attrs {
val AuthenticatedAsAttr: TypedKey[AuthenticatedEmail] = TypedKey("AuthenticatedAs")
}
The reason is the implementation of TypedKey (Link), which does not contain an equals method and therefore reverts to comparing memory references.

How to pass parameters to a Progress program using database field dynamic-based rules?

I have in my database a set of records that concentrates information about my .W's, e.g. window name, parent directory, file name, procedure type (for internal treatments purposes), used to build my main menu. With this data I'm developing a new start procedure for the ERP that I maintain and using the opportunity in order to rewrite some really outdated functions and programs and implement new functionalities. Until now, I hadn't any problems but when I started to develop the .P procedure which will check the database register of a program that was called from the menu of this new start procedure - to check if it needs to receive fixed parameters to be run and its data types - I found a problem that I can't figure out a solution.
In this table, I have stored in one of the fields the parameters needed by the program, each with his correspondent data type. The problem is on how to pass different data types to procedures based only on the stored data. I tried to pre-convert data using a CASE clause and an include to check the parameter field for correct parameter sending but the include doesn't work as I've expected.
My database field is stored as this:
Description | DATATYPE | Content
I've declared some variables and converted properly the stored data into their correct datatype vars.
DEF VAR c-param-exec AS CHAR NO-UNDO EXTENT 9 INIT ?.
DEF VAR i-param-exec AS INT NO-UNDO EXTENT 9 INIT ?.
DEF VAR de-param-exec AS DEC NO-UNDO EXTENT 9 INIT ?.
DEF VAR da-param-exec AS DATE NO-UNDO EXTENT 9 INIT ?.
DEF VAR l-param-exec AS LOG NO-UNDO EXTENT 9 INIT ?.
DEF VAR i-count AS INT NO-UNDO.
blk-count:
DO i-count = 0 TO 8:
IF TRIM(programa.parametro[i-count]) = '' THEN
LEAVE blk-count.
i-count = i-count + 1.
CASE ENTRY(2,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1)):
WHEN 'CHARACTER' THEN
c-param-exec[i-count] = ENTRY(3,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1)).
WHEN 'INTEGER' THEN
i-param-exec[i-count] = INT(ENTRY(3,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1))).
WHEN 'DECIMAL' THEN
de-param-exec[i-count] = DEC(ENTRY(3,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1))).
WHEN 'DATE' THEN
da-param-exec[i-count] = DATE(ENTRY(3,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1))).
WHEN 'LOGICAL' THEN
l-param-exec[i-count] = (ENTRY(3,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1)) = 'yes').
OTHERWISE
c-param-exec[i-count] = ENTRY(3,programa.parametro[i-count],CHR(1)).
END CASE.
END.
Then I tried to run the program using an include to pass parameters (in this example, the program have 3 INPUT parameters).
RUN VALUE(c-prog-exec) ({util\abrePrograma.i 1},
{util\abrePrograma.i 2},
{util\abrePrograma.i 3}).
Here is my abrePrograma.i
/* abrePrograma.i */
(IF ENTRY(2,programa.parametro[{1}],CHR(1)) = 'CHARACTER' THEN c-param-exec[{1}] ELSE
IF ENTRY(2,programa.parametro[{1}],CHR(1)) = 'INTEGER' THEN i-param-exec[{1}] ELSE
IF ENTRY(2,programa.parametro[{1}],CHR(1)) = 'DECIMAL' THEN de-param-exec[{1}] ELSE
IF ENTRY(2,programa.parametro[{1}],CHR(1)) = 'DATE' THEN da-param-exec[{1}] ELSE
IF ENTRY(2,programa.parametro[{1}],CHR(1)) = 'LOGICAL' THEN l-param-exec[{1}] ELSE
c-param-exec[{1}])
If I suppress the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th IF's from the include or use only one data type in all IF's (e.g. only CHAR, only DATE, etc.) the program works properly and executes like a charm but I need to call some old programs, which expects different datatypes in its INPUT parameters and using the programs as described OpenEdge doesn't compile the caller, triggering the error number 223.

Looks as if you're trying to use variable parameter definitions.
Have a look at the "create call" statement in the ABL reference.
http://documentation.progress.com/output/ua/OpenEdge_latest/index.html#page/dvref/call-object-handle.html#wwconnect_header
Sample from the documentation
DEFINE VARIABLE hCall AS HANDLE NO-UNDO.
CREATE CALL hCall.
/* Invoke hello.p non-persistently */
hCall:CALL-NAME = "hello.p".
/* Sets CALL-TYPE to the default */
hCall:CALL-TYPE = PROCEDURE-CALL-TYPE
hCall:NUM-PARAMETERS = 1.
hCall:SET-PARAMETER(1, "CHARACTER", "INPUT", "HELLO WORLD").
hCall:INVOKE.
/* Clean up */
DELETE OBJECT hCall.
The best way to get to the bottom of those kind of preprocessor related issues is to do a compile with preprocess listing followed by a syntax check on the preprocessed file. Once you know where the error is in the resulting preprocessed file you have to find out which include / define caused the code that won't compile .
In procedure editor
compile source.w preprocess source.pp.
Open source.pp in the procedure editor and do syntax check
look at original source to find include or preprocessor construct that resulted in the code that does not compile.
Okay, I am getting a little bit lost (often happens to me with lots of preprocessors) but am I missing that on the way in and out of the database fields you are storing values as characters, right? So when storing a parameter in the database you have to convert it to Char and on the way out of the database you have convert it back to its correct data-type. To not do it one way or the other would cause a type mismatch.
Also, just thinking out loud (without thinking it all the way through) wonder if using OOABL (Object Oriented ABL) depending on if you Release has it available wouldn't make it easier by defining signatures for the different datatypes and then depending on which type of input or output parameter you call it with, it will use the correct signature and correct conversion method.
Something like:
METHOD PUBLIC VOID storeParam(input cParam as char ):
dbfield = cParam.
RETURN.
END METHOD.
METHOD PUBLIC VOID storeParam(input iParam as int ):
dbfield = string(iParam).
RETURN.
END METHOD.
METHOD PUBLIC VOID storeParam(input dParam as date ):
dbfield = string(dParam).
RETURN.
END METHOD.
just a thought.

Can data be saved between calls to the openCPU server?

I understand that the interface to OpenCPU is RESTful. Nevertheless, I would like to save data between function calls, if possible.
I naively created the following package:
vals <- c()
fnInit <- function() {
vals <<- c('a','b','c')
}
but I got the error: cannot change value of locked binding for 'vals' when I called the fnInit function. I understand why this is happening.
I then tried:
fnBoth <- local({
vals <- c('a','b','c')
function(which) {
if (which == 0) {
vals
} else if (which == 1) {
vals <<- c(vals,'d')
vals
}
}
})
but every time I POST to the fnBoth function with which = 1, I get the same response:
[1] "a" "b" "c" "d"
If I call the function again, I get the same answer. So, it would seem that the value vals is being reset each time.
My question is: Can data be saved between function calls? The above attempts are not meant to be exhaustive - maybe there's another technique? Or, should I simply save the value to disk?
Thanks
It is not completely clear to me what you are trying to accomplish, perhaps you can elaborate a bit on the type of application you wish to build.
OpenCPU supports chaining of function calls to calculate e.g. f(g(x), h(y)). This is done by passing the session ID of a completed call as an argument to a subsequent one. Have a look at the docs about argument formats: https://public.opencpu.org/api.html#api-arguments. It includes an example that illustrates this by calculating summary(read.csv("mydata.csv")):
#upload local file mydata.csv
curl https://public.opencpu.org/ocpu/library/utils/R/read.csv -F "file=#mydata.csv"
#replace session id with returned one above
curl https://public.opencpu.org/ocpu/tmp/x067b4172/R/.val/print
curl https://public.opencpu.org/ocpu/library/base/R/summary -d 'object=x067b4172'
The first request calls the read.csv function which returns a dataframe. In the last line, we call the summary function where we set the object argument equal to the output of the previous call (i.e. the data frame) by passing the session ID.

How Do I Attach A Body To a Delete in Dispatch?

I have a Dispatch 0.8 DELETE handler that needs to have a body.
So I have a normal DELETE that works fine:
def delete = request.DELETE ># identity
I tried this:
def delete(body: String) = request.DELETE <<< body ># identity
but it turned the request into a PUT because of the <<< operator.
Use setBody instead:
"If you wish to supply a string instead of a file, use a setBody method of the RequestBuilder class. Its variants support a number of input types and do not imply a particular HTTP method." from http://dispatch.databinder.net/HTTP+methods+and+parameters.html
To do this with Dispatch 0.8, I used a sort of hacky solution:
def delete(body: String) = (request << body).DELETE ># identity

CodeIgniter: URIs and Forms

I'm implementing a search box using CodeIgniter, but I'm not sure about how I should pass the search parameters through. I have three parameters: the search string; product category; and the sort order. They're all optional. Currently, I'm sending the parameters through $_POST to a temporary method, which forwards the parameters to the regular URI form. This works fine. I'm using a weird URI format though:
http://site.com/products/search=computer,sort=price,cat=laptop
Does anyone have a better/cleaner format of passing stuff through?
I was thinking of passing it into the products method as arguments, but since the parameters are optional things would get messy. Should I suck it up, and just turn $_GET methods on? Thanks in advance!
Query Strings
You can enable query strings in CodeIgniter to allow a more standard search function.
Config.php
$config['enable_query_strings'] = FALSE;
Once enabled, you can accept the following in your app:
http://site.com/products/search?term=computer&sort=price&cat=laptop
The benefit here is that the user will find it easy to edit the URL to make a quick change to their search, and your search uses common search functionality.
The down side of this approach is that you are going against one of the design decisions of the CodeIgniter development team. However, my personal opinion is that this is OK provided that query strings are not used for the bulk of your content, only for special cases such as search queries.
A much better approach, and the method the CI developers intended, is to add all your search parameters to the URI instead of a query string like so:
http://site.com/products/search/term/computer/sort/price/cat/laptop
You would then parse all the URI segments from the 3rd segment ("term") forward into an array of key => value pairs with the uri_to_assoc($segment) function from the URI Class.
Class Products extends Controller {
...
// From your code I assume you are calling a search method.
function search()
{
// Get search parameters from URI.
// URI Class is initialized by the system automatically.
$data->search_params = $this->uri->uri_to_assoc(3);
...
}
...
}
This would give you easy access to all the search parameters and they could be in any order in the URI, just like a traditional query string.
$data->search_params would now contain an array of your URI segments:
Array
(
[term] => computer
[sort] => price
[cat] => laptop
)
Read more about the URI Class here: http://codeigniter.com/user_guide/libraries/uri.html
If you're using a fixed number of parameters, you can assign a default value to them and send it instead of not sending the parameter at all. For instance
http://site.com/products/search/all/somevalue/all
Next, in the controller you can ignore the parameter if (parameter == 'all'.)
Class Products extends Controller {
...
// From your code I assume that this your structure.
function index ($search = 'all', $sort = 'price', $cat = 'all')
{
if ('all' == $search)
{
// don't use this parameter
}
// or
if ('all' != $cat)
{
// use this parameter
}
...
}
...
}
