I get the following error message when I try to open up my application from the web (using 'appname' as my application name, the root name of my application - the error displays my app's actual name):
com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.internal.WebContainer handleRequest SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /appname has not been defined.
As far as I can tell, my application was installed correctly and is running on our Websphere server (WAS 8.5).
I'm at a loss for what to pursue in order to resolve this issue - what possible issue could my application be having?
Map your web module to /appname in the administration console, or use whatever context-root is specified for the web module.

Then I deployed the jri.war file successfully. Then I started the server successfully as well. But when I tried to test it through http://localhost:8090/, I got the following page, and I do not know if that's the norm or there's something wrong...
I need to know if testing is successful, and what's meant by "context" here?

You deployed the jri.war to the context path /jri, this isn't an error, and is quite normal.
Just access your webapp via http://localhost:8080/jri/
I am getting the following error when trying to connect my application to jboss:

You must recall the following actions:
Make sure that your webapp is using the same port as defined in the socket-binding definitions for hotrod in the standalone.xml for JDG configuration folder;
Make sure that your webapp is using the proper inject annotations for your RemoteCacheManager class (remember to use the #ApplicationScopped annotation at the class definition and for additional methods used to get the cache instance);
If you are using JBoss and JDG on the same host, you must check declarations of the JBOSS_HOME environment variable. This variable must be assigned to the JDG installation home directory and not the JBoss EAP home (check also port-offset settings at startup if you're using a custom shell script);
If you are not using both products on the same host, check firewall and network settings;
Remember to re-deploy the application always after every modification and check both EAP and JDG console output for warnings and/or errors.

I'm experiencing some strange behaviour with a ColdFusion 11 server, which (among other things) publishes some web services accessed via both SOAP and HTTP. The server itself is Windows 2012, running IIS. Actual folder config is as follows:
IIS has two websites configured, 'BOB' and 'BOB_Services'. Both have been configured with the CF Server Config tool so that CF handles .cfc, .cfm files. They share a common CFIDE config.
BOB's root is I:/inetpub/BOB
BOB_Services's root is I:/inetpub/BOB_Services
There is a folder mapping configured in CF Admin from '/' to 'I:/inetpub/BOB'. Don't ask me why, no one seems to know.
Normally there is a services.cfc file in BOB_Services ONLY. Yesterday we accidentally copied that same file into the BOB root folder, and all of our SOAP services using BOB_Services\services.cfc started throwing errors. Yet I can query the same webservice via HTTP (eg. using http://bob/services.cfc?method=function1¶m1=0 ....etc) and get a valid result.
This is a reference answer in case anyone else comes across this strange behaviour.
It appears that when BOB_Services/services.cfc is called using HTTP GET, the folder mapping
'/' -> 'I:/inetpub/BOB'
is ignored and the actual file used to process the request is I:/inetpub/BOB_Services/services.cfc.
When a function in BOB_Services/services.cfc is called using a SOAP client, the folder mapping is invoked and the file used to process the request is I:/inetpub/BOB/services.cfc, IF IT EXISTS. If it does not exist, the file I:/inetpub/BOB_Services/services.cfc is used as expected.
This behaviour appears to be entirely repeatable - I can make a SOAP request, get one result, change the mapping, make another request and get the other result.

I have the service up and running on my local server and my JavaScript client can call it fine. OK so far. Now, what I want to do is deploy the service on a remote server JoeSoapHost:8080
How do I now tell my client where to send it's requests? I can't see any server/url being created in my RPC call. It just works by magic but now I want to get under the bonnet and start breaking it.

This is the Interface my client uses to know what service on the Server is to be called. I know that my Web.xml web descriptor must have a url that matches this. It has this because my server is invoked ok. Problem is, if I now decide to deploy my server elsewhere how do I tell my client what server/domain name to use?

2) #RemoteServiceRelativePath("stockPrices") allows GWT code to determine relative to your host/server/domain i.e http//mydomain.com/gwtapp/stockPrices
3) You can search GOOGle IO Sessions from 2009 - 2012 for some more in depth stuff on GWT RPC usage.
#RemoteServiceRelativePath gives the path of the servlet relative to the GWT.getModuleBaseURL() (which is more or less the URL of the *.nocache.js script); it doesn't "just work by magic".
If you deploy your services on a different server than the one serving your client code, then you'll likely hit the Same Origin Policy. CORS can help here, but you'll lose compatibility with IE (up to IE9 included). You'd better stick serving everything from the same origin.
I am trying to setup ASP.Net MVC 2 application on Linux environment. I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on VirtualBox, then installed Mono 2.8 from sources. After that I have installed nginx and configure it as recommended here.
Unfortunately, FastCGI shows me standard error 500 page:
No Application Found
Unable to find a matching application for request:
Host localhost:80
Port 80
Request Path /Default.aspx
Physical Path /var/www/mvc/Default.aspx
My application is located in /var/www/mvc directory. I've tried to create some stub Default.aspx file and place it in root dir of my application, but it didn't help, same error occured.

I've been doing some testing with this as well, using all ubuntu10.10 binaries.
From what I can make from it, either nginx fails to pass the hostname of the mono server fails to receive it over the fastcgi protocol. Anyhow, the tutorial line:
fastcgi-mono-server2 /applications=www.domain1.xyz:/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ /socket=tcp:127.0.0.1:9000
doesn't work. Removing the hostname makes the thing work:
fastcgi-mono-server2 /applications=/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ /socket=tcp:127.0.0.1:9000
but this of course blocks the use of multiple virtual mono hosts.
Since you are running ASP.NET MVC 2 application you should use fastcgi-mono-server4.
Adding following line in /etc/nginx/fastcgi_param resolves the issue for me. It also allows to use multiple virtual hosts.
fastcgi_param HTTP_HOST $host;
Does your application work with xsp (xsp4 if you are using .net 4.0)? You'll want to make sure that is working before you try configuring the connection to another web server.
Does nginx know where to find mono? You most likely have a parallel install and it won't be in the default paths.

I had this problem just now, I too had been following the document on the mono site:
I was trying to start the fastcgi-mono-server as it suggested:
sudo fastcgi-mono-server4 /applications=www.domain1.xyz:/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ /socket=tcp:127.0.0.1:9000 &
However when I did it like that I got the same problem as you. I changed it to this:
sudo fastcgi-mono-server4 /applications=/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ /socket=tcp:127.0.0.1:9000 &
And it worked ( I had to type in www.domain1.xyz/Home/Index to see my MVC page, not worked out how to stop it looking for www.domain1.xyz/default.aspx yet XD ).
You need to make sure the domain set in your site config matches the domain passed to the fastcgi server. So for example if your default site (/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default) has the following config:
server {
...
server_name www.domain1.xyz;
...
}
You would need to pass that domain into the fastcgi server:
sudo fastcgi-mono-server4 /applications=www.domain1.xyz:/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ ...
Then when you access the site it will obviously need to be with that domain you set.
