How to get the Ad final url with the Facebook insights API - facebook

I'm trying to get an ad final url using the python sdk.
I tried all the fields but I can't manage to find one which returns the ad url. At the moment my fields are:
params = {'access_token':creds.refresh_token,
'fields':'action_values, actions, ad_name, adset_name, objective, outbound_clicks, outbound_clicks_ctr, call_to_action_clicks, campaign_name, cost_per_unique_click, cpc, cpm, spend, website_ctr, date_start, date_stop',
'action_breakdowns':['action_link_click_destination'],
'date_presets':'last_year',
# 'time_range':" since:2017-06-01, until:2017-01-03}"
}
ad_insights = requests.get("https://graph.facebook.com/v2.10/{}/insights".format(ad['id']), params=params)
I understand that some ads won't have a final url, like boosting posts, but many ads are only pointing to a site, how can I get the "call to action url" ?

You have to pull in the adCreative for each ad that AdInsights reports on. The adCreative will contain the outbound link.

How to get Facebook Ads UTM

I see that when creating an ad, I can define UTM Tags with the endpoint URL_Tags
=> https://developers.facebook.com/docs/marketing-api/reference/ad-creative/
But if I want to track the performance I am not able to get back the UTM
=> https://developers.facebook.com/docs/marketing-api/insights/parameters
I know that super-metrics are able to get the URL Tags... there is no reason that they can and not the US.
=> https://supermetrics.com/api/getFields?ds=FA&fieldType=dim
If I am reading well, facebook API insight is not able to get me the URL Tags. But is there a workaround? Maybe playing with Facebook ads create the function... a read after write method or something like that?
Try this,
1).The UTM tags + Facebook ads article explains clearly on Standardizing a UTM protocol
2). For more on Track, FB Ads refer this article
3). Get the UTM tags with Facebook Marketing API refer
from facebook_business.adobjects.adaccount import AdAccount
from facebook_business.adobjects.adcreative import AdCreative
from facebook_business.api import FacebookAdsApi
access_token = '<ACCESS_TOKEN>'
app_secret = '<APP_SECRET>'
app_id = '<APP_ID>'
id = '<ID>'
FacebookAdsApi.init(access_token=access_token)
fields = [
'name',
]
params = {
}
print AdAccount(id).get_ad_creatives(
fields=fields
)
Just replace your relevant details and add url_tags as a field under fields. You will be able to access all UTM params for every creative under your account.

facebook-java-sdk unable to create "Ad", says using instagram a/c as placement when not really using anything

I am trying to create Ad using facebook-java-sdk
val adCreative = new AdAccount(ACCOUNT_ID, context).createAdCreative()
.setName(s"Test Creative +$TEST")
.setObjectStorySpec(
new AdCreativeObjectStorySpec()
.setFieldLinkData(
new AdCreativeLinkData()
.setFieldCaption("http://www.field-caption.com")
.setFieldImageHash(attachment1.getFieldImageHash)
.setFieldLink("http://www.google.co.in")
.setFieldMessage("try it out")
)
.setFieldPageId(FACEBOOK_PAGE)
)
.execute()
val ad = new AdAccount(ACCOUNT_ID, context).createAd()
.setName(s"Test Ad +$TEST")
.setAdsetId(adSet.getId)
.setCreative(adCreative.getId)
.setCreative(new AdCreative().setFieldId(adCreative.getId()))
.setStatus(Ad.EnumStatus.VALUE_PAUSED)
.execute()
However the createAd calls fails and results into exception with
com.facebook.ads.sdk.APIException$FailedRequestException: {"error":{"message":"Invalid parameter","type":"OAuthException","code":100,"error_subcode":1772103,"is_transient":false,"error_user_title":"Instagram Account Is Missing","error_user_msg":"You're using Instagram as a placement. Please select an Instagram account to represent your business in your Instagram ads, or select a Facebook Page to use instead.","fbtrace_id":"FtpWRXVY1tH"}}
This was working fine couple of days back, but all of sudden has started throwing an exception. Any help would be appreciated.
I'd like to add to this answer since i just fought with this issue.
Our long running app that managed boosting just stopped working this month and was throwing the error the OP mentioned.
It appears that the default settings on Facebook's side changed. The docs state that the defaults are facebook, audience_network, messenger
Looking in the Ads Manager, it shows that the placement for the failed boost attempt now includes instagram as a placement. There doesn't seem to be any mention of this change anywhere that I could find.
So I did have to change the call to explicitly define facebook, audience_network, messenger as my publisher_platform setting and not rely on the defaults.
You can explicitly specify publisher platform to publish only on facebook
val adSet = new AdAccount(ACCOUNT_ID, context).createAdSet()
.setName(s"Test AdSet +$TEST")
.setLifetimeBudget(20000L)
.setStartTime(currentDateTime.toString())
.setEndTime(currentDateTime.plusDays(1).toString())
.setCampaignId(campaign.getId())
.setIsAutobid(true)
.setBillingEvent(AdSet.EnumBillingEvent.VALUE_IMPRESSIONS)
.setOptimizationGoal(AdSet.EnumOptimizationGoal.VALUE_POST_ENGAGEMENT)
.setTargeting(
new Targeting()
.setFieldCustomAudiences(List(idNameCusAudience).asJava)
.setFieldPublisherPlatforms(List("facebook").asJava)
)
.setStatus(AdSet.EnumStatus.VALUE_PAUSED)
.execute()
None of these answers really answer what you need to do if you want to include Instagram.
In order to post to instagram you need an instagram account ID.
Every single page on Facebook has (or can have) an instagram 'account' without the user creating one.
What you need to do is (in this order):
Check if they have an instagram linked (if they do you use this ID)
Check for page_backed_instagram_accounts to see if their page has an instagram account that Facebook made for them to be able to advertise (this account is hidden and cannot be found on instagram) if they have this, use the ID from this account.
If for some reason their page has no instagram nor does it have page_backed_instagram_accounts then you will need to create a page_backed_instagram_account

How to get Instagram post URL from Facebook Graph media_id

I'm using Instagram Mentions API and was able to obtain FB media_id for couple Instagram posts.
I need media_id to get post content via /user/mentioned_media. Unfortunately that endpoint does not provide ig_id or shortcode or permalink which I need.
Is there a way to get Instagram Post URL with FB Graph API media_id?
It seems like you can get media metadata (and all comments/replies) when someone #-mentions you in a non-owned-media comment by using a query like below.
You would use your own instagram business account id for the first number (the path component), and you'd use the comment_id you received from the webhook comment-mention notification as the second number:
/12345678901234567890?fields=mentioned_comment.comment_id(9876543210987654321){id,text,username,timestamp,media{id,media_type,media_url,permalink,username,like_count,comments_count,comments{id,text,username,user{id,username},like_count,timestamp,replies{id,text,username,user{id,username},like_count,timestamp}}}}
Yes, there is a way you can get Instagram post URL associated with a media if you know the media id.
You can also get more information (all its fields and edges) on media. See the docs here
You can get the Instagram post URL by making a GET request to /{ig-media-id}
Sample Request:
GET https://graph.facebook.com/v15.0/{{media_id}}?fields=permalink, shortcode&access_token={{ACCESS_TOKEN}}
Sample Response:
{
"permalink": "https://www.instagram.com/p/Clxsi5Pol2_/",
"shortcode": "Clxsi5Pol2_",
"id": "17xxx59557977xxx"
}
The value of the permalink is the valid public URL for the post.
You can also use the shortcode returned to construct the URL by concatenating the shortcode to https://www.instagram.com/p/.

How to get "news main stream" from the main facebook site?

How to get the general information listed on the home page?
Facebook makes a request to
https://www.facebook.com/ajax/pagelet/generic.php/LitestandMoreStoriesPagelet?
with params:
ajaxpipe
ajaxpipe_token
no_script_path
data
__user
__a 1
__dyn
__req
__rev
__adt
And although it returns a json (inside a script with conditions...) is not a clean answer.
Is there another way to get that data? I do not want to use the sdk.
If you want the 'News feed', you'll want to use the /user/home/ API endpoint:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/reference/v2.1/user/home
e.g. https://graph.facebook.com/me/home?access_token=VALID_ACCESS_TOKEN will just grab your own News Feed.
You can also filter by any of the 'filter_key' values returned from the FQL query (use the Graph API Explorer and API version 2.0):
SELECT filter_key, name, type, value FROM stream_filter WHERE uid = me()
e.g. adding the query string filter=app_2305272732 will return a feed of things from the 'Photos' app (i.e. photos added to Facebook by your friends)

Retrieve Facebook users that like a URL / web page via Open Graph

Is there a way to retrieve the list of Facebook users that have clicked the like button on an external website?
E.g. there is a domain example.com which has been confirmed via Facebook Insights to belong to fbUser1 (using OG meta tags).
Somewhere on example.com there is a page with multiple XFBL like buttons, each one pointing to a further specific URL on example.com, e.g. example.com/xyz, example.com/abc etc.
What I'd like to get is the list of users that liked example.com/xyz and of those who liked example.com/abc.
My intuitive approach would be to look at graph.facebook.com/123456789/likes (where the number is the ID of the domain taken from FB insights), but this always returns an empty dataset:
{
"data": [
]
}
I've also tried getting an OAuth access token from https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?type=client_cred&client_id=APPID&client_secret=APPSECRET (where APPID and APPSECRET are taken from a FB application that is marked as owning the domain using OG meta tags), but that makes no difference.
I'd also be interested in a non-OpenGraph (i.e. JS SDK, FQL etc.) solution.
EDIT: Using the following code (according to WideBlade's answer below) still gives me an empty list of likes (the second query never returns):
var objectsQuery = "select id from object_url where url in ('http://example.com/xyz', 'http://example.com/abc', 'http://example.com/123')";
var likesQuery = "select object_id from like where object_id = {0}";
FB.Data.query(objectsQuery).wait(function (objectRows) {
console.log(objectRows);
FB.Array.forEach(objectRows, function (objectRow) {
FB.Data.query(likesQuery, objectRow.object_id).wait(function (likeRows) {
console.log(likeRows);
})
});
});
FQL Should do the trick.
$facebook->api_client->fql_query('SELECT user_id FROM like WHERE object_id="OBJECTID"');
Here is the link.
Some general info about FQL.
FQL is initiated using the JavaScript SDK, in this way.
If you can post some sample code-I can try and give some more specific help.
A note should be made-once you've got the user ID's, you can just query the names and get them in a list.
EDIT: To get the URL of an object you should query this table using fql.
This cannot be done. Facebook does not allow you to query for specific user ID's of people who have liked a certain page. This is because of privacy concerns.
See the disclaimer on this page https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fql/like/
