Facebook stopped displaying article:author - facebook

It looks like Facebook changed something in the last few days, I noticed the article:author information doesn't show up anymore (article:publisher still works)
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/opengraph/object-type/article
It used to be working fine like this:
<meta property="article:author" content="https://www.facebook.com/yovav"/>
For example, if you share https://ufotoday.com/post/10061 on Facebook it should show the author.
UPDATE 2
It is working now, I was able to add Confirmed Publications in Linked Publications after I added my facebook website pages under a company and updated the company pages in General - Category to be "News & Media Website ยท Publisher".
UPDATE 1: so Linked Publications is found in the user profile settings (and not in the company facebook page settings), first I could not find website on the facebook autocomplete list, I changed page template to "business" and set "News & Media Website", "Publisher" in category. and now it is added as Confirmed Publications.
My meta data has these values now:
<meta property="article:author" content="https://facebook.com/yovav" />
<meta property="article:publisher" content="https://www.facebook.com/1677453589249352" />
However, I still cannot see the author name next to the publisher website (in the bottom left corner of facebook posts), What am I missing here?

It appears that authors need to give permission to a publication or website (and specifically the FB page of that site) in order to be cited as the author in Facebook's byline feature.
As such, the authors needs to login to their own Facebook profile, go to Settings (for their own profile), and then click "Linked Publications" (Or just send them to this link: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=author_publisher )
There, they need to add the publication's (or site's) Facebook page as a "linked publication."
When I did this on my personal profile, I finally got back the byline functionality, both in the tag debugger and in actual Facebook posts.
However, I sent this info to all of our authors, and some of them do not have the particular setting page mentioned above. So YMMV.

Some people said, if you're a Media Fanpage admin and you already confirmed your domain by Link Ownership function (Only verified page have this function), you can get author back by the new function Linked Publications.
When you finished these things, you'll see your byline back. But...
Only you(admin) can see that. Other user still can't see this byline link.
I don't know what Facebook are doing, damn it.

In Facebook share, how to control the website name/link shared beside the time ago?

That page was shared from my website via Facebook share button, but as per highlighted link in red, it's showing an incorrect text so I wanted to be able to control it (and the link address too if possible).
I viewed the source of my web page, it showed link.net from my canonical link in <head>, I thought I can control it there but no.
Thought it's derived from my dev site www.mydevsite.01.myname.link.net but I can't confirm. Also because I have seen some shares not having the "link.net" at all (dunno how it's called but it's the link beside the time ago).
So I guessed I can control it in meta tags but it seemed it's not <meta property="og:site_url" content="website" /> either.

Like button for Facebook page shows generic Facebook description in News Feed

I want a Like button on my web site that Likes my Facebook profile (rather than my web page), so that when a user clicks it they subscribe to my Facebook posts.
I've created the Like button using the tool at https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/
Further down that page there is an FAQ entry:
Can I link the Like button to my Facebook page?
Yes. Simply specify the URL of your Facebook page in the href
parameter of the button.
So, I've edited the href parameter to point to my Facebook page. eg:
https://www.facebook.com/myfacebookid
When a user clicks the Like button it has the desired effect. The user ends up having Liked my Facebook page. This is easily verified by the user going to my Facebook profile and checking that the Like button has changed to Liked.
But. When the user clicks the Like button, and entry appears in their News Feed with a generic Facebook description. ie:
Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and
others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to
keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, post links
and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.
I don't want a generic post about Facebook to appear. I want the description to relate to my Facebook account and/or web site.
Normally, I could modify this behavior with the Opengraph og: description tag, but as the page in the href is a Facebook page and not my own, I can't control the Opengraph tags.
I'm pretty sure that this was working okay before I enabled timeline for my account, so maybe this is a timeline bug?
So, how do I add a Like button which a) Likes my Facebook profile rather than one of my own web pages, and b) Posts a description of my Facebook profile rather than give a generic Facbook description?
Are all your fields in the info part of your page filled in, and/or completed? I just tested your theory and it seemed to work as expected, only thing is I know all fields in "info" are filled it. Give that a try.
This may happen if you have filled invalid/incomplete/wrong og tags in past and later changed them. Facebook's cache creates problem sometime.
Try putting all the entries (i.e. all og tags) and then debug them here http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug. This debugger gives a detailed info about the url with og tags and also clears the cache for you.
This should solve the problem.
You have 3 important fields that used on page opengraph: Name,Description,Profile Image.
They are used when some one post your link on Facebook, or Google or some else web service that handle opengraph.
Actually, the suggested answers currently do not work and there is an open bug / ticket on Facebook for it. Up to now, there's no fix.
The problem is that you can not use simply https://www.facebook.com/myfacebookid. You should copy and paste the exact page URL. If you have a low number of likes it would look something like https://www.facebook.com/pages/[YourPageName]/[Your page Id]/, and this is the URL that you should use at this point.
If it does not work, try also https://www.facebook.com/[YourPageName]/[Your page Id]/.
In short, copy-paste the URL, do not type it manually.

Facebook App Insights for Website "app" shows all zero's?

If you create a FB App for the lone purpose of getting an App ID for XFBML Like Button Plugin implementation should you see data for the app insights?
We have had the XFBML Like Button on our blog for a while now and each post gets anywhere between 5 and 3,000 likes (I realized that not all of these occur on the site itself) but when I go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps/MYAPPID/insights it shows me all zeros for the number of users, shares and performance. Is this normal because my app is really only a way to register the site with FB or could this be an implementation issue? It would make sense to me that I should be getting some stats under the sharing section for "Stream Published Stories Created" or "Links Posted" because that is what the Like button is doing.
Did you include proper facebook metadata on your domain?
You must specify an App ID or an Admin ID as so:
<meta property="fb:admins" content="user_id" />
<meta property="fb:app_id" content="your_app_id" />
http://developers.facebook.com/docs/insights/
Also note:
Why does the count next to my Like Button not match what I see in Insights? The count next to the Like Button represents the sum of Like Button clicks, News Feed likes, News Feed comments, and shares on Facebook.

How do I make Facebook comments public for all on my website?

I've added facebook comments to my website using the following steps:
I created a new app herehttps://developers.facebook.com/apps/
In the auth dialog page for the app, I set 'default activity privacy' to 'Public'
I got the code for the comments box here https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments/
I used the HTML5 version of the code and added it to my site in the two places specified - right after the body tag and where I want the comments to appear.
I then opened the comments moderation tool for my new app.
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/comments?view=recent_comments
I clicked on 'Settings' and turned on 'Make every post public by default'
I also listed myself as a moderator.
I also added
<meta property="fb:app_id" content="{YOUR_APPLICATION_ID}">
inside the head tags for the page.
When I go to my site - the comments box appears to work ok. I can make a comment, but I can only see comments made by me. I cannot see comments made by people I am not friends with. How do I fix this problem? I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks
Every comment you leave on a facebook-comments driven web site is public, the same way it is on a fan page. Even a non facebook member can leave a comment.
I am looking for a way to turn it off and get the same permissions you have on your facebook wall. Currently, everybody who has the link can see the page content and all previous comments.
Had the same issue and figured out that Facebook grabs urls differently for displaying and submiting comments.
If the url you're providing him in data-href (e.g. short url) is different than the window.location url (url in address bar), then it's probably the case.
P.S. I know that the question is from 2011, but someone else may show up with the same problem.

Why is Facebook returning the wrong page (affects Facebook Like and Share URL)?

When we first put up a blog post, Facebook often (but not always) gets confused about what the page is. Specifically, if you try to use the Like button on the blog page OR if you try to share via the Share link on your profile, Facebook will see the root blog page rather than the actual post page.
For example, we recently posted:
http://thisorthat.com/blog/2010-song-of-the-year-round-1-results
If the user "likes" it, it returns the title for:
"http://thisorthat.com/blog"
When you run the post URL through the FB Linter, you can see the problem.
"http://developers.facebook.com/tools/linter?url=http://thisorthat.com/blog/2010-song-of-the-year-round-1-results"
In the Debug section it shows an extra og:title, og:url, description and og:image (the last 4 rows of the Debug section). This is the meta data from the root directory. What we cannot figure out is why. Why is Facebook seeing the correct meta data on the page and then also pulling the meta data from the root directory (and using that incorrectly to populate the data for the Like button and the Share URL tool)?
One other oddity. FB "figures it out" after a few days. Of course, by that time relatively few people are viewing the post.
UPDATE -- I want to thank Peter Bailey again for his answer, but we also discovered that there was another issue that we had to resolve before the Like button worked.
The issue was that we were displaying the Facebook the Like button on a post that was not yet published. The problem with this is that FB then can't resolve the URL and "guesses" as to the correct URL. In our case, it always guesses thisorthat.com/blog. Unfortunately, it then caches that guess for a number of days and that cache cannot be cleared by the Linter. So the ultimate solution was to both fix the og:type as Peter suggested, but also to remove the Like button from the blog post preview. It's very important that you don't show FB a page before it's published or if you do, change the URL.
Pretty sure it's your Open Graph type that's the problem.
<meta content="website" property="og:type"/>
Per the documentation
Use article for any URL that
represents transient content - such as
a news article, blog post, photo,
video, etc. Do not use website for
this purpose. website and blog are
designed to represent an entire site,
an og:type tag with types website or
blog should usually only appear on the
root of a domain.
