I am trying to get thingsboard running with an external database in order to separate my app server from my db server.
Right now thingsboard is running on a vm instance on google cloud, it is connected to a postgresql database running on the same server.
I created a postgresql fully managed db in google cloud, I can access it from pgadmin4 from my local machine and I can connect to it with PSQL from my application server.
The problem is that when I try to connect thingsboard to the new db the service will not start, The lines I change in "thingsboard.yml" file are url: "${SPRING_DATASOURCE_URL:jdbc:postgresql://MYPUBLICDBIP:5432/thingsboard}"
password: "${SPRING_DATASOURCE_PASSWORD:MYDBPASSWORDFORUSERpostgres}"
Am I missing something? What am I doing wrong?
I got the issue sorted out, the problem was related to the lenght/complexity of the password, I was using special characters and a lenght of 32.
Changed to a 22 character alphanumeric password and it worked correctly. I do not know if it was the lenght or the precence of special characters.

I am trying to create a linked server between the warehouse and a amazon cloud service.
The service provide is using a PostgreSQL database.
I have installed the ODBC Driver (12.10) on my server but I keep getting this error.
I am not sure how to work around this as I have never used Postgres before.
i am using pg lib in strapi application, where initially it creates postgres connection using correct postgresql username(postgres), database name(strapi_db) and password(postgres) but after login it changed it to connect using my windows 10 username(rayappan.a, and database as rayappan.a). it seems strange to me because i never configured anywhere to use my windows credentials for POSTGRESQL connection. please any one tell me how to fix username connection issue

Take a look into https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/libpq-connect.html#LIBPQ-CONNSTRING . It states that username:
Defaults to be the same as the operating system name of the user running the application."
The database name:
Defaults to be the same as the user name.
So it seems a new connection with parameters not set is made.
I can't seem to connect to Cloud SQL with Workbench. I keep getting this error.

I have white listed my IP.
I have set an IP for the SQL instance.
I have checked the username and Password several times.
Any idea why this is happening?
It seems you have to create a new user in the Google Cloud Console with the host name set to %(any host). You can't seem to connect using the root user.
Is it possible to connect with the #root user but after you finish the setup you have to restart the sql server.
What is important to set up an SSL certificate if you connect to you production database, but if you only try it out you can allow unsecured connection. Another important thing is to add your IP to the Authorised Networks in the Connection tab.
I'm building a simple web app that will deploy on Heroku, and using a Postgres database that is filled with an object from Salesforce. I did that with HerokuConnect and that works.
Now I want to see the contents of the database so that I know the table names, and I already know you can't do that on Heroku itself. So, I tried to connect to the database locally via heroku pg:psql but everytime I do that I get the error:

Is the server running on host "***.***.***.**" (**.***.***.***) and accepting

So that doesn't work. I tried the following but to no avail:
explicitly specifiying the name of the database
specifying host, user, database name, password, port and setting sslmode=require per the user guide and this question about connecting to a heroku postgresql database.
using the method above, but instead of using heroku psql I just used psql. That asked for a password but for a user I never created (a user with my corporate system name, because this is a corporate laptop)

My understanding is that Heroku Postgres runs on top of AWS. Is it possible to configure which datacenter your database is running in? I'm also wondering if the database files are stored on an encrypted filesystem.
Yes, Heroku runs on AWS. But you are not able to specify which datacenter to run your database. For encryption look at http://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/static/pgcrypto.html.
Heroku runs out of Amazon US-East - once you've add a postgres db to your app heroku config will give you the database connection URL which you would be able to tracert on to see where it is
