I'm getting this error in Spring Tool Suite when I right-click a project and select Maven->Update Project. When I go to ~/.m2/repository/sun/plugin/plugin, here is what I see.
$ ls
m2e-lastUpdated.properties
plugin-1.7-javadoc.jar.lastUpdated
plugin-1.7-sources.jar.lastUpdated
Apparently the plugin-1.7.jar is missing from my Maven repository. This might be because I stupidly deleted ~/.m2/repository yesterday in order to try to fix another problem.
How do I fix this error? How can I install plugin-1.7.jar? It's the plugin-1.7 jar from com.sun, but when I search Google I can't find where to download it.

I just checked out maven based java project from svn to local box in eclipse where maven 3.0.2 is available. However while reviewing class path configuration many of dependencies are broken such as org.restlet-2.0.15.jar. Strange part is C:/Users/daeyoung/.m2/repository has that broken jar file but .lastUpdated is appended. After reading many posts from WWW, the way I understood to fix the problem is delete *.lastUpdated file then re-download it from central repo.
But when I reviewed pom.xml file there is no mention of repository (strange...) and as soon as I delete *.lastUpdated file, it comes back (e.g. org.restlet-2.0.15.jar.lastUpdated).
I am new to Maven.
I'd appreciate if someone can guide me to a right direction to fix this problem.
[update]
I created following user settings.xml file under /Users/daeyoung/.m2/ directory. I thought at least that would take care of downloading org.restlet package.
However when I ran mvn command (literally mvn) inside of project folder, system was saying..
I don't want to modify pom.xml file but rather via user settings.xml I thought I could connect to maven restlet repo and download specified target package but I am not sure what I am missing in here. I think contents of settings.xml is not correct.
I just want to say thanks to all who have given me advice. First I was not well equipped to understand the advice but more I looked at the problem/read about maven articles. It was clear what needs to be done to fix the problem.
Bottom line is I manually downloaded dependencies to ${user_name}/.m2/repository for missing jars. I configured ${MAVEN_HOME}/conf/settings.xml to point to local repository then I ran mvn validate/clean/package sequentially from eclipse via m2e plugin (or I could have done same thing from command line).
I'm trying to convert an eclipse Java project to a Maven project. When I convert the project to a Maven project, the pom.xml displays the following error:
Cannot read lifecycle mapping metadata for artifact
org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-jar-plugin:maven-plugin:2.3.2:runtime
Cause: error in opening zip file
When I check the lifecycle file, it's blank. Any idea of why I can't convert this project without getting this error?
Thanks for the assistance!
If that file is empty, it might have been caused by a bad download of the maven artifact. Therefore check your proxy settings in Eclipse as well as in Maven itself (~/.m2/settings.xml)
One thing you can try is deleting the project(from the workspace, not from your computer!) and importing it as a maven project using the deleted project's folder as your source. I've had a lot of trouble in the past with converting projects with m2e, but deleting/re-importing always seems to do the trick.
To import an existing project as a maven project go to file->import and select "Existing Maven Project". Select your project's folder, and import. I realize it's basically the equivalent of "turn it off and turn it on again", but like I said, it has always worked for me in the past. At the very least it will help you narrow your scope.
Hope this helps!
My coworker is attempting to install STS, groovy/grails onto his PC. He has imported a TFS project which grabbed the source fine. However he is getting lots of build errors that appear to be the result of the Grails Dependencies library being empty. He cleared .ivy2 cache and restarted STS which repopulated the .ivy2 cache. However, the dependencies are still empty under the build path (right click project, build path, libraries tab, expand Grails Dependencies).
He might be able to add them manually, but that doesn't seem like the appropriate solution and may cause issues down the line. Any ideas?
Select "Grails Tools -> Refresh dependencies" from the context menu of your project. Then the dependencies are added.
I had the same problem. It turned out that an undeclared class was causing the problem. One of the STS engineers responded that "if the command "grails compile" fails, then STS will not have the dependency data. This data is produced as a side effect of the compile command. So it doesn't get generated if the compile fails."
Basically, the entire Grails Dependency issue was a red herring. If you look at the Error Log (Window->View->Error Log or Window->View->Other: General->Error Log) check to see there is an undefined that is stopping the grails compile.
I checked out an open-source project from SourceForge's SVN source control using the Eclipse Maven plugin. After it checks out, I get this error in the pom.xml file:
Error resolving version for plugin
'org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-source-plugin' from the repositories
[local (C:\Documents and Settings\thomas.owens\.m2\repository),
central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2)]: Plugin not found in any
plugin repository
I'm fairly new to Maven, but I followed the installation instructions for Apache Maven and the Eclipse plugin. It seems weird that this plugin would not be found in the central plugin repository for Maven or my local repository, when I can clearly see a directory located at C:\Documents and Settings\thomas.owens\.m2\repository\org\apache\maven\plugins\maven-source-plugin that contains a single resolver-status.properties file.
Any thoughts as to why this plugin might not be found and where I can find it?
The problem that I was encountering was not an issue with the maven-source-plugin, but incorrect proxy settings that was preventing the connection to the repositories. The answers to this question on the use of Maven with a proxy helped me to find the mistake and correct it.
That plugin is in the central repository.
Perhaps you just need to run with -U to update:
mvn -U clean install
Or in Eclipse: right-click on the project, select Maven-> Update Dependencies, (perhaps) Maven-> Update Project Configuration
Check if you are able to see Maven in Eclipse, Window > Preferences.
If so, select Maven and go to installations and check if the folder, in where maven was installed, is properly set. Then, set your setting.xml file, it should be in /(maven installation folder)/conf/
Then, right click in your project go to Maven > Update Maven Dependencies.
Did it help?
Which project?
Perhaps there is a bug in their pom.
Or perhaps they require a 'standardized' develop environment with specific environment variables set, or a specific setting in user.home/.m2/settings.xml
Coming from Visual Studio, I'm pretty new to the Eclipse IDE.
And finding it very difficult. I seem to get error messages of the type "missing ..." a LOT.
The latest issue I'm having, where I just can't get around is this:
I"m trying to compile & run this sample project: http://code.google.com/p/gwtgae2011/
When I choose "checkout maven projects from SCM" my SCM drop down is empty...
So I just checked it out with Hg manually. No problem.
Trying Import > Existing Maven Project. Seems to read the pom.xml alright, but shows an error:
"No marketplace entries found to handle maven-gae-plugin:0.8.1:unpack in Eclipse. Please see Help for more information."
Since I can't find it through updates or market within eclipse I downloaded maven-gae-plugin (http://code.google.com/p/maven-gae-plugin/downloads/list). I figured just dropping it into the "plugins" or "dropins" folder should be enough. Apparently not so...
Question: How do I fix this error?
(I tried both 3.6 & 3.7)
Links to some good eclipse tutorials covering these kinds of topics are very welcome too!
THANKS!
maven-gae-plugin is in central repo so it should be found.
Did you set the path to your local repo? http://united-coders.com/phillip-steffensen/maven-2-part-3-configuring-eclipse-for-apache-maven-2-projects
I ran into this error, what worked for me was:
Comment the plugin
Import into eclipse
Uncomment the plugin
Discover an error in the plugin XML
Fix error found in the plugin XML
I am not certain, but it seems like this is a unclear error that something about the pom.xml is invalid.
