I'm building a app where users can share specific content with one another. I'm trying to make it so when the user has relevant content in their clip board the app automatically asks them if they want to paste it into the conversation.
Is this possible? Where can I find the documentation for this.
First of all Messenger Platform only supports page <> user conversations, not user <> user conversations.
Then Messenger Platform is cross-platform, where most likely the majority uses the Messenger app on mobile where you cannot access the content of the clipboard for obvious reasons.
Taking these 2 into account you may want to reconsider your original app idea.

I need to replace existing company messenger bot with a new one. It is my first time when I am working with Facebook for developers, so I am a newbie. Could you help me and answer few questions? I tried to find them on the internet, but unfortunately, it is the first time I could not find something.
1) Could I deploy messenger bot from other developer application than current? I mean that I do not have access to current developer application, could I create a new app and deploy it to our page from that app?
2) Could I deploy new messenger bot without replacing the old one? If yes then could they coexist? I would like to choose users who will talk with a new bot, and the rest will speak with the old bot.
3) Do I need to submit my whole app for review? Alternatively, could I only review messenger app?
4) If I pass messenger bot review, then could I replace a fan page associated with the bot?
Thank you very much in advance :)
Ok, let me try to answer those questions.
Yes, the app is subscribed to the pages using https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/reference/page/subscribed_apps. You can drop it and install another one.
Yes, there can be as many in parallel. You find them at https://www.facebook.com/[page_id]/settings/?tab=messenger_platform and it looks like this (below). You can also select a role (primary or secondary receiver), so that one app just snatches some sort of messages.
Here it depends. There is "App Review" and "App Review for Messenger". I am assuming you mean Review for Messenger. Now, if the bot is pretty complex - which it is in most cases - you have to provide a video how to use it. So you are showing its features. First and formost for the "pages_messaging_subscriptions" approval, you need to show how to interact with subscriptions (adding, deleting, etc).
Once your bot (=your app) is approved, you can add it to as many pages you want. The review (sort of) checks if the app is a good piece of software, not on which page it will run later. Thats why you can add chatfuel to your personal, your brand or your fan page at the same time.
Hope that helps. Cheers
I'm building a web application that performs an analysis based on the inputs a user enters. I want to allow the user to send this analysis, which will be 2-3 sentences max, to one or more of their Facebook friends through the messenger platform.
At first I thought the Send Dialog was the way to go, but it appears I can't pre-populate the message field at all (source).
Next I tried integrating the Messenger Platform but this appears to target businesses that want to connect their site to a Facebook Page and setup a chat bot, which seems far too complex for my use case.
Is there anyway I can allow the user to send a private message to one or more of their Facebook friends or is this not possible for a specific reason (e.g. prevent spam, security concerns)?
This SO question here appears similar to my question.
There's no way to do this unfortunately. Makes sense, however, as apps could spam people's imessenger if it was possible.
The best alternative is to use the Send Dialog component.
Hello I've read the docs and am having trouble getting a definitive answer for the following questions:
Can our app detect if another app is used by a given user. What about if we are admin of, or have the id of both apps.
If one of the apps is removed from FB is there a way to tell if a user had it installed before it was removed? A sort of history of past apps, I guess.
Here:
FB Connect: is there a way to see the logged in user's facebook apps?
Best answer is "I think the most you can do..." but I'd like to know for sure.
Thanks for any help.
If you request the permission user_actions:APP_NAMESPACE you can see the open graph actions that the user has performed in that app.
http://developers.facebook.com/docs/authentication/permissions/#open_graph_perms
In my apps I generally store the user ID of all authorized users in a database, and when I get a call via the "Deauthorize Callback URL" I don't delete the user from the database, but instead only flag the user as deauthorized.
This way I can easily get an overview of users that are using (or have used) any of my apps. This allows me to present special features for users who are using several of my apps.
For example, let's say I made a photo app (like Instagram) and a GPS running app (like Endomondo). If the user takes a photo with Instagram while running with Endomondo, I could present the option to GPS-tag the photo, or add the photo to Endomondo.
This is something that I think we developers should use more. Perhaps present an open API to other apps, to let the apps work together.
I have a question about increasing visibility of Facebook app notifications.
As far as I can tell, there are only 2 places where Facebook app requests appear for users who don't click the "Apps & Games" section - in the top right section (https://skitch.com/nicksoman/8172w/facebook) or in the jewel (https://skitch.com/nicksoman/81737/2-facebook) - I believe the wording is a bit different on this one if recipients haven't used the app, as it references an invite rather than a request.
As other have noted, neither of these channels provides any context around the request. In the past I've seen context for apps like BranchOut and FarmVille, but I can't replicate this behavior by sending invites from these apps now (can anyone)?
Has anyone found a Facebook-approved way to either provide more context around these app requests or make them more visible?
I'm familiar with the history of Facebook tweaking channels due to abusive apps - just want to make sure I'm current on best practices today.
Are you referring to users who haven't authorized your app or users who did?
Basically, facebook calls this Social Channels and you have a few options, again, depending on if the user is already using your app or not.
If the user is using your app, you have the bookmarks bar which can be used by issuing a App-generated requests.
If the user isn't using your app then a friend of his that is using your app can send him a User-generated request.
You can and should encourage your users to publish your app stories to their friends' feed and/or to send them to friends.
There's that "Automatic Channels" which is discussed in the first link in this answer.
More options are to use the Social Plugins in your website, and to have a mobile version of your app.
I need to post a user-specific text, determined by him, on his wall/timeline when he presses a button (in facebook's tutorial, they make the user login when the app launches, and then it does nothing).
There is a lot of information on the internet but every site does it in other way.
Just wanted to know if there's a specific way to do it.
Thanks!
A quick easy way to add facebook to your app is ShareKit (http://www.getsharekit.com/). This also allows you to add other social network site to your app.
You might want to try Socialize: http://www.GetSocialize.com. It'll allow app users to comment & like within the app, with the option of also sharing out to a social network (Facebook currently live; Twitter coming). Full feature list at http://go.GetSocialize.com/features
