Getting Error while creating audience of CUSTOM type through Marketing API - Facebook - facebook

I am using Facebook PHP SDK, and trying to create Audience of Custom TYPE from Marketing API, and I am getting following Error:
You'll need to agree to the Custom Audience terms before you can
create or edit an audience of CUSTOM type. To accept, go to
https://business.facebook.com/ads/manage/customaudiences/tos/?act=129260934125705.
Even though I have already accepted the term, I am still getting the error for accepting the terms.
Please find attached screenshot for Terms Acceptance.. Terms & Condition Accepted Screenshot

I would recommend checking the status of tos_accepted via Graph API explorer. You can also use it to debug your Audience Creation calls.
You can check if a Business has signed their Custom Audience terms of service, by making a GET call to an ad account owned by that Business. The ad account can’t be acting on behalf of another business, or be shared. The GET call is:
GET act_<AD_ACCOUNT_ID>?fields=tos_accepted
A sample response looks like this:
{
"tos_accepted": {
"custom_audience_tos": 1 // this means the terms were signed
},
"id": "act_<AD_ACCOUNT>"
}
Check full docs about TOS here
A bit more info on Custom Audiences

Thanks Artyom Kovalyov.. I have checked the graph API explorer, and this is what I get.
{
"tos_accepted": {
"web_custom_audience_tos": 1,
"custom_audience_tos": 1,
"value_based_custom_audience_tos": 1
},
"id": "act_129260934125705"
}
Please check and let me know if I can do something else to fix the error that I am getting..

It seems ok Vishal. Have you tried to create this same Audience via graph explorer? The ways to go from here are either filing an FB direct support case for your app, they are not usually fast to reply and not every customer is whitelisted for that.
Another assumption is if you try to do it on behalf of your customer with their account, it might be that they have to accept TOS, not you.
FB has a huge amount of setting and from the info, you provide it's pretty hard to tell what exactly fails.

Facebook - Custom audience deleting users issues

I could successfully able to push users into custom audience in facebook in this endpoint - https://graph.facebook.com/v5.0/audienceid_goes_here/users
Now I need to delete the user from the custom audience. I tried with the same endpoint but am getting OAuth "Facebook Platform" "invalid_request" "Permissions error"
Have provided all admin permissions under business settings to systems users and granted all access. Still not sure how to make this work. Am I missing anything?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Below is the code that I tried
Endpoint - https://graph.facebook.com/v5.0/audience_id_goes_here/users
Method - DELETE
payload={
"schema": [
"EMAIL_SHA256"
],
"data": [
[
"hashed_email_goes_here"
]
]
}
Incase anyone is facing the same issue, below is some of the workaround I did.
Tried the delete users from audience using facebook explorer - https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer
This gives clear error of why it failed. In my case it was due to this message You cannot remove users from this audience because it will result in a low audience size. but the error from API in my code was still giving me Permissions error.
After checking from fb explorer i got the clear error message.
So there is no resolution for this and its a valid error message as mentioned here - https://developers.facebook.com/support/bugs/2093728693993530
Custom Audiences must maintain a certain minimum size, though the
specific number is not actually documented. I believe the required
minimum is approximately 100 unique users. If you need to remove so
many users that you're going under this limit, I'd recommend deleting
the custom audience entirely.
Hope it helps someone

How to create a Facebook ad based on a post?

After many tries, I'm not getting how we can use the Facebook API to create a simple Ad based on a Post (and it's creative) like it is possible in the Business Manager.
For example, my last attempt failed due to a problem with Instagram:
Facebook API: Instagram Account Is Missing
If there is anybody that has been able to create a basic Ad (within a given or new AdSet) based on a Post, please help me. I've seen many questons like this (especially regarding the Instagram problem) and now I'd like to have a working solution.
What exact requests have to be done or isn't it possible at all?
THe Instagram placement is added by default in the targeting, so if you want to skip it you need to specify in the targeting field when creating the adSet in the publisher field:
{
"geo_locations":{"countries":["US"]},
publisher_platforms: ['facebook'],
facebook_positions: ['feed', 'right_hand_column'],
device_platforms: ['mobile', 'desktop']
}
If you want to publish on Instagram also you should also provide an instagram actor ID: The AdsCreative should contain an extra field named instagram_actor_id also remember to add Instagram in the related targeting:
{
"geo_locations":{"countries":["US"]},
publisher_platforms: ['facebook','instagram'],
facebook_positions: ['feed', 'right_hand_column'],
instagram_positions: ['stream', 'story'],
device_platforms: ['mobile', 'desktop']
}

Facebook pixel events call from server

I have absolutelly the same question as dan here - Facebook conversion pixel with "server to server" option . There was written, that there was no way, but it was 2013, so I hope something changed.
So, is there any way to call facebook pixel events (e.g. CompleteRegistration) from server side now?
I can describe situation in more details. Imagine, that user visits our site, where fb pixel tracks 'PageView' of course. When user passes form and sends his phone number, we call 'Lead' event. But then we need to track one more event, when our manager successfully confirmes this user! Of course, it happens on other computer and so on, so there is no idea, how to "connect" to base user.
I've seen a lot of documentation departments like this, but I can't fully understand even if it's possible or not.
Logically, we need to generate specific id for user (or it can be phone number really), when 'Lead' event is called. Then, we should use this id to 'CompleteRegistration' for that user. But I can't understand, how to do it technically.
It would be gratefull, if somebody could explain it.
P.S. As I understand, it is fully available in API for mobile apps. Is it ok idea to use it for our situation, if there is no other solution?
Use Offline Conversions to record events that happen after a user has left your website. Logging these conversions, technically, is very easy. Setting everything up takes a little effort
tldr; check the code below
Follow setup steps in the FB docs (Setup steps 1-5) which are:
Setup facebook Business Manager account
Add a new app to Business Manager account
Create an Ad account, if you don't already have one
Create a System User for the ad account
After the setup, follow Upload Event Data steps on the same page, steps 1-3 to create an offline event set and associate it with your ad. These can be carried out in the Graph API Explorer by following the links in the examples. These can be done programmatically, but is out of the scope of making the event calls from the server for one campaign.
Once you have created the event set, then you can upload your CompleteRegistration events!
You will need to make a multipart form data request to FB, the data key will be an array of your conversion events. As #Cbroe mentioned, you must hash your match keys (the data you have available about your user to match them with a FB user) before sending to FB. The more match keys you are able to provide, the better chance at matching your user. So if you can get their email and phone at the same time, you're much more likely to match your user.
Here's an example of the call to FB using node.js:
var request = require('request')
// The access token you generated for your system user
var access_token = 'your_access_token'
// The ID of the conversion set you created
var conversionId = 'your_conversion_set_id'
var options = {
url: 'https://graph.facebook.com/v2.12/' + conversionId + '/events',
formData: {
access_token: access_token,
upload_tag: 'registrations', //optional
data: [{
match_keys: {
"phone": ["<HASH>", "<HASH>"]
},
currency: "USD",
event_name: "CompleteRegistration",
event_time: 1456870902,
custom_data: { // optional
event_source: "manager approved"
},
}]
}
}
request(options, function(err, result) {
// error handle and check for success
})
Offline Conversion Docs
Facebook has now a Server-Side API: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/marketing-api/server-side-api/get-started
Implementing this is similar to implementing the offline events outlined in the accepted answer.
Keep in mind that it will always be cumbersome to track and connect events from the browser and from your server. You need to share a unique user id between the browser and server, so that Facebook (or any other analytics provider) will know that the event belongs to the same user.
Tools like mixpanel.com and amplitude.com may be more tailored to your needs, but will get very expensive once you move out of the free tier (100+ EUR at mixpanel, 1000+ EUR at Amplitude, monthly). Those tools are tailored towards company success, whereas Facebook is tailored towards selling and measuring Facebook ads.

facebook sdk / graph api - get custom audience current size?

Question - is there a way to get the current size of an audience from facebook? (if so, Java SDK details would be appreciated)
Why do I need this? - I'm looking to achieve the following in facebook using the java sdk (tech is irrelevant here - same issue regardless of api) -
Create a custom audience using a bunch of email ids.
Follow that with creating a look-alike audience based on the new audience above.
Complication - Now the above are pretty straightforward as individual steps and we are able to that with no issue. Trouble comes due to the following -
Facebook allows creation of look-alike audiences only when the origin audience has at least a 100 members.
Also, Facebook take a little time processing the first list (looking up matches etc. I guess) during which time the "size"of the custom audience is low (like 20 etc.). If I check back in like an hour or so, it would have updated with all the matches, and the size is now as expected.
Due to the above, if I follow the "create custom audience" call immediately with a "create look-alike audience" call, it will fail with the error below (have tried it multiple times) -
{
"error":{
"message":"(#1234) Source Audience is Too Small:
There are not enough people in your source in the country you chose.
Please choose a country that includes at least 100 people in your source.",
"type":"Exception-type",
"code": 1234,
"error_subcode":5678,
"fbtrace_id":"fb-trace-id"
}
}
If I try the look alike audience creation a while later, it works, cos by then the audience is processed (at least partially) and the size has gone > 100.
Solutions explored -
So one obvious way to solve this is to introduce a delay in creating the lookalike audience after having created the initial custom audience. This has its issues (most important is that it is guess work vs. a solid hand-shake).
Therefore (out of my innate need to have control) I'd like to "know" when the custom audience is ready (hence the original question above) so I can create the look-alike audience - am looking for help to see how this can be achieved?
I've looked thru facebook graph api docs here (http://restfb.com/javadoc/), scanned facebook forums here (https://developers.facebook.com/bugs/) to see if the CustomAudience has (or if there is another API) that gives the current size of an audience, but haven't found any. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
I guess this is already not relevant, but anyway.
You can make a GET request with a parameter "fields" set: https://graph.facebook.com/v2.10/{custom_audience_id}?fields=["approximate_count", "operation_status"]
The result you'll get shows approximate count of the CA and status (is the CA ready)
{
{
"approximate_count": 20,
"operation_status": {
"code": 200,
"description": "Normal"
},
"id": "{custom_audience_id}"
}

Facebook Ads API: How can I create ads preview without create campaign first?

I check a lot of documents, and flow like that:
Submit data to create Campaign, target, and AdCreative
Use ID of AdCreative to generate preview code
Display preview code to my site (to show to my user)
But I don't want to create Campaign, Targeting, and AdCreative before preview, just submit raw data of AdCreative to get preview code.
I found that doc https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/reference/generatepreviews/, and look like they can solve my problem... But it didn't work.
My test data is: https://graph.facebook.com/v2.6/generatepreviews?ad_format=RIGHT_COLUMN_STANDARD&creative={"object_story_spec":{"link_data":{"message":"msg","link":"http://kimkha.com?1","caption":"ccccc"}},"name":"NAME 1","body":"dddddd","title":"titititit","call_to_action_type":"OPEN_LINK","object_url":"http://kimkha.com"}&access_token=<token>
And the error:
{
"error": {
"message": "(#275) Cannot determine the target object for this request. Currently supported objects include ad account, business account and associated objects.",
"type": "OAuthException",
"code": 275,
"fbtrace_id": "GeckbxpU9gr"
}
}
I ran into the same problem and got past it, despite not being able to get a fully-functioning dynamic preview working. Here are some more pointers to help save others the pain.
The url needs to include an "ad account, business account or associated objects" like the error message states. For my case I used my ad account id (https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1492627900875762). The url changed to be the following base format: https://graph.facebook.com/v2.10/act_<your-app-id>/generatepreviews
When you get the response, you need to decode the body and you can use the url directly to test. I replaced \/ with /, & with & and removed the trailing slash. After this you get a url that should give you more specific error messages
I had to also specify a "page_id" parameter that the ad will be associated with. This is a sibling of "link_data" in the sample JSON listed above.
You may get error messages telling you to change the format of certain fields.
Eventually I got the error "Preview Not Available: Unable to display a preview of this ad. (fbtrace_id: Dsfql/z/qVI)" and finally lost the will to continue. The documentation is far from easy to follow and does not have clear examples.
I'm sorry I can't give a working solution, but for my case I was evaluating this API for a non-critical piece of work and timeboxing prevented me from proceeding. Hopefully I help save some time for someone else.
I ran into this problem. The solution for me was to use my app token instead of the Graph API Explorer's token. Hope this helps!
My two cents after struggling on this issue. My request had to be formatted as follows (this is using video data, but should extend to link data):
act_{ACT_ID}/generatepreviews
?ad_format=DESKTOP_FEED_STANDARD
&creative={object_story_spec:{
page_id:<PAGE_ID>,
video_data: {
image_url: <IMAGE_URL>,
call_to_action:{
type:"SHOP_NOW",
value:{
link: <URL>
}
}
}
}}
In this case, the call_to_action has to be placed inside the video_data (or link_data) parameter and has to be formatted as an object. I did also have to change & with &, as Matt mentions.
