How do i run/import a downloaded command-line programm? - powershell

there is a command-line program called tcpvcon.exe
According to Microsofts website (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/tcpview) it should be possible to access it the following way:
tcpvcon [-a] [-c] [-n] [process name or PID]
Do I have to import this executable somehow to be able to access its commands?
I am trying to write a small script, but I am struggling to access the program in a reasonable way that allows me to pass it arguments.
I am using Powershell.
Thanks
Edit:
I downloaded the program, executed it once and accepted the licence agreement. Now I would like to be able to use the above command in Powershell.
If I use it i get following error:
"tcpvcon" is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet...
Do I have to import the cmdlet somhow? I cannot find any information on this... It is probably a very simple fix and I just do not know the procedure.
Thanks again.

How to Automate scripts with options in Powershell?

I'm not a native English speaker as such pardon some discrepancy in my question. I'm looking at a way to Automate option selection in Programs/Scripts running via PowerShell.
For example:
Start-Process -FilePath "velociraptor.exe" -ArgumentList "config generate -i"
In the above snipper PowerShell will run Velociraptor and initiate the configuration wizard from a Ps1 file. The Wizard has few options. After running it will generate some Yaml files.
As such what would be the way to have PowerShell Script automate the option selection process? I know what the option should be. I looked around but I don't know proper terms to find what I need. Nor am I sure this can be done with PowerShell.
The end goal is to have the Ps1 download Exe, run the config command and continue with choosing the selection based on predefined choices. So far I gotten download and lunching of the velociraptor.exe working. But not sure how to skip the window in screenshot and have PowerShell script do it instead.
I couldn't find a CLI reference for velociraptor at https://www.velocidex.com/, but, generally speaking, your best bet is to find a non-interactive way to provide the information of interest, via dedicated _parameters_ (possibly pointing to an input file).
Absent that, you can use the following technique to provide successive responses to an external program's interactive prompts, assuming that the program reads the responses from stdin (the standard input stream):
$responses = 'windows', 'foo', 'bar' # List all responses here
$responses | velociraptor.exe config generate -i

I need to write a perl script which will pass value to a shell script

I have a shell script say Install.sh .
while running this, this will ask several question. like:
Please enter database name, server name etc.
I am not allowed to edit anything in this script.
So I want to write a different perl script or shell script, which will run the install script and pass the default value without asking anything. Basically i am trying to add this in cron.
I searched over the internet, I dint find any solution, dont know its possible or not. Please suggest.
More clarification:
>> sh Install.sh
Please enter the database name : xyz
Please enter the server ip : abc
Put the appropriate respones in a file (e.g. install.txt) in the order expected and simply do:
./install.sh < ./install.txt
You could try using expect to automate this for you.

Open pipe to that process and then use it.

Unrar script, error, in need of rar command for debian

I'm currently trying to get this script to work:
https://github.com/mj41/auto-unrar/blob/master/bin/unrar2.pl
The only problem is that I get the following error:
Entering directory 'Series'
Entering directory 'Series/SerieName'
Entering directory 'Series/SerieName/Season2'
Entering directory 'Series/SerieName/Season2/SerieNameS02E21.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION'
Entering directory 'Series/SerieName/Season2/SerieNameS02E21.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION/Sample'
Can't call method "List" on an undefined value at unrar2.pl line 973.
This line is rar_obj->List();
$rar_conf{'-verbose'} = $rar_ver if $rar_ver;
my $rar_obj = Archive::Rar->new( %rar_conf );
$rar_obj->List();
my #files_extracted = $rar_obj->GetBareList();
This is an old script, 3-4 years old and I changed a little like SHA1 to SHA and use Filesys::DfPortable; to Df
Does anyone know how I can fix this error :)?
EDIT:
I contacted the developer and he told me I needed to install a program that can handle rar commands. So how would I do that. I can't seem to be able to install unrar.
EDIT2:
What my problem is now, 2 of the 3 unrar packages aren't in my architecture, armhf.
To install the script yourself::::::::::::
https://github.com/jorricks/UNRAR
You need to pass the -archive parameter into the call to new() otherwise how will $rar_obj know which file it is supposed to be looking at?
I can't seem to be able to install unrar
That's not a particular good explanation of your problem. What did you try? What unexpected behaviour did you see?
From the tags on your question, it looks like you're running Debian. What do you see if you run sudo apt-get install unrar?
Update: My first comment was based on the code extract that you showed us. Looking at the full program code, I can see that %rar_conf has other values set in it (including the -archive option) before the section of code you gave us.
Looking at the source of the Archive::Rar module, it seems to assume that the program to use for dealing with the archives is called rar. So 7-Zip is not going to work.

run powershell script from anywhere

I am currently working on a powershell script. The objective of this script is to import data from a .csv file from which new users are created if that username does not already exist in the Active Directory.
My question is how can I make this script run from any location so all I have to do is type the name of the script and it will run. I have been able to do this in BASH but can't figure out how to do this in power shell. So far google has been little help.
If it makes any difference i'm using Windows Server 2008 R2
The basic idea is to create Powershell Function which will do the work (or will call other script placed in other location) and put this method to Profile.ps1 script (the script which is loaded everytime you start powershell) - Look at Windows PowerShell Profiles for further details.
The link above for Powershell Function from Tomas Panik is not there anymore so I want to add to the answer here.
Short version:
You can create your function by using Powershell Function. However, this will only last for that session only.
In order for you to use your function regularly, you need to generate/add your function to your own PowerShell profile. Quick tutorials are here and here. Tomas Panik's link to Windows PowerShell Profiles also has very good info.
Update: thanks Hussein Al-Mosawi for reporting the old broken link!

PowerShell: send console output to file without deafening this console output

I have a lot of PowerShell script. One main, that calls other, child ones. Those PS scripts in their turn call windows CMD scripts, bash scripts and console applications. All these scripts and applications write messages to console. PowerShell scripts, for example, are using Write-Host scriptlet for this purpose.
Question: how can I easely redirect (send) all this console output to some file, while not deafening (canceling) this console output? I want to be able to see whats going on from console output and also have history of messages in log file.
Thanks.
You can use the tee equivalent of PowerShell : Tee-Object
PS: serverfault.com and/or superuser.com are more suitable for a question like this.
You can try Start-Transcript and Stop-Transcript. It has a couple of limitations like not capturing native exe output. It is also global to PowerShell session.
I've found script for grabbing console output: http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/e8fbffde-7d95-42d9-81de-5eb3d9c089e0. Script returns HTML to preserve colors.
The only big downside - you must call it at the end of your script to capture all console output it have made.
You'd probably need to write a custom host to do this. It's not a terribly hard thing to do, but it's does require some managed code.
