Visual Studio Code Wordpress directories not opening and disappearing - visual-studio-code

I'm new to VSC but have a very strange problem. I connect to the FTP with no problem but some of the directories aren't showing as dropdown folders but instead with '[DIR]' next to them. Even stranger, when I click them they are crossed out and then disappear when I click off.
Top level folders appear correctly but anything further down the hierarchy has the same problem.
Here is an example of what I mean
Has anyone experienced this?

Visual Studio Code - Open Folder opens in full screen? Is there a way to fix it?

Whenever I tried opening folders or files in VS Code, the explorer (for choosing whichever folder or file) pops up full screen, is there a way to fix this issue?
I've tried uninstalling it to no avail, and I didn't even touch the full screen/zen modes at all, they were all disabled!
Admittedly, this issue doesn't kill me, but I would very much prefer the explorer to not be at full screen, does anyone knows how to fix this issue?

Visual Studio Solution Explorer like experience for VSCode

Sorry in advance if this is not the right place to ask but can someone help me customise VS Code to work similar to Visual Studios Solution Explorer?
In Visual Studio we have the Solution Explorer which lists all files but also there are 2 very handy view filters; found in the title bar of the Solution Explorer panel.
Open Files Filter
Pending Changes Filter
if neither is selected then default to show all files in the solution
Ideally I want the Workspace view that lists all files in VSCode, but also a toggle to only list 'Open' files. (I'm less interested in Pending Changes).
I'm aware of the Open Editors view but I find this difficult to navigate since it's a flat view and isn't a nested directory structure. When every file is called view.html in its own folder it's a nightmare to eyeball the list of files.
Also I think toggling between "all" and "open" files would be easier than going up and down between 2 panels when you want to open something new.
So is this possible, does anyone know of a way to customise vscode to get this behaviour?
Thanks in advance!

vscode settings pane is blank

For some reason, my vscode is no longer showing any settings in the UI settings pane. I can still open my settings.json, but even with my settings editor set to "workbench.settings.editor": "ui", I still get this:
I'm on macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 and vscode version 1.52.1
Any ideas on what might be causing this? Should I make a backup of my settings files and then reset the settings to default?
I was having this exact same issue recently, so I was a little disappointed when there were no solutions. I did not have my settings editor set to "workbench.settings.editor": "ui",as you had, so I tried doing that, but after restarting vscode it didn't appear to do anything.
I've been working in the same folder for a while now, so I tried toggling to a different folder to see if somehow that would kickstart vscode into displaying the settings pane. That did not work, but when I toggled back to the folder that I was originally in, the settings pane was now populating with the normal settings for User and Workspace.
A little bit more troubleshooting and it seems like if I have the settings pane already open in the workspace when the workspace loads (either by toggling to a new folder or by restarting vscode), I can see the settings, but if the settings pane is not already open in a workspace and I try to open it, I get a blank page. I also noticed that the settings pane that appears when you load a fresh workspace is stuck on one tab (ie the settings don't change if you toggle between User and Workspace), but if I close and reopen the tab (not the whole workspace), it works as expected. Here's a gif to prove I'm not crazy:
This is me just clicking around to show the behavior I'm describing
I can't embed the picture because of my reputation, but hopefully that shows the behavior I am seeing. I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the day this is still somehow my fault because of my settings or something, but hopefully this helps someone else.
Small Edit
Just wanted to point out that I acknowledge that this is not an actual solution to the underlying problem, but it's certainly worked well enough for me for now, maybe some one else can chime in with the true solution.

Can't edit files in Vscode

I've just started using Vscode and have a created a WebAPI project. On trying to open any of the default code files (Startup.cs and Program.cs) whatever I type starts to appear in the blue bar as shown below instead of where I have placed the cursor. I have no idea what's going on or what that blue bar is.
I am able to add my own code files and edit these as I would expect.
I'm running Vscode 1.29.1 on Win 10 on a Dell Latitude 12 7275. The vscode extension
Enabled extensions :
That's caused by Vim extension. Uninstall or disable it, otherwise use insert key on your keyboard to put it in insert mode.
I'l leave this here for future readers
Basically, if I split files in tabs in VS Code, I could work with the files on the left hand side but could "read-only" all the files on the right hand side.
When I went to the extensions tabs I noticed that whatever I typed was being typed in the field in the extensions search bar. After deleting that, and clicking back on the "Files" tab, it went back to normal and can basically edit files on the both sides of my split screen.
If cannot type
Check where whatever you type is going (e.g. Extensions > Search bar)
Delete wherever it's being typed, and click back on the "Files tab"
Check if it works
I had to change the parent folders permission...
Try changing the entire folder to:
Read & Write: Allows a user to open the item and change it.

Cannot see folders sub folders and files in Vs

I just started using Visual Studio Code Version 1.15.1 and for some reason, after closing all the folders in the navigation explorer side bar, I cannot get it back to display the folder structure and files in the project, even after closing and reopening. The files and folders are available and I can see them fine in OSX Sierra. Also the VS code window title shows the name of the project.
You can get it back by right clicking on the sidebar "Explorer" header, and selecting "Folders". See the gif here: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode/issues/32962#issuecomment-324866098
This has confused several people so we've decided to remove the ability to hide the "Folders" view. Continuing discussion on the general UI is here: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode/issues/31485
