This is driving me nuts. Every time I open a curly brace I get an autocomplete suggestion for like 20 lines of code that automatically enters whenever I hit the enter key (which I do after typing a curly brace, obviously).
Example: https://imgur.com/a/LNRLNte
The code that pops up is my tailwind.config.js file verbatim.
You can try switching accept suggestion on enter this setting to off then suggestion won't be inserted into the editor unless tab is pressed or switch to smart.
Given that not any plugin is overriding that setting.
If you have doubt why same code is popping up, it might be due to AI based plugin for suggesting (code which you used mostly) or you would have created a code snippet.

When writing JSX (or any typescript code really) if you have an available import that's not yet imported, you get a squiggly line under it and can press ctrl+dot on it and then automatically import the code as a "refactoring."
How can I set this up in Javascript? I've seen a screenshot of someone else's VSC where it is available underneath "more options" and so I'm pretty sure it's possible, but when I press ctrl+dot I get nothing.
Note: I'm aware I can press ctrl+space. However, I don't want to do this, for two reasons. (1) alt+space is pretty bad UX because if you press it in the middle of a word it continues to autocomplete even if you already had the full name there and so you are left with an incorrect tag (e.g. if your cursor was after the d in Keyboard for a component called KeyboardRow you are left with KeyboardRowRow) and (2) I want to rebind quick fix to alt+enter to match pycharm; and I want the same hotkey & UX in both Typescript and Javascript.
I haven't worked too much with JS, mainly with TS, but I have two extensions installed in my vscode that helped me a lot while coding in vanilla JS.
Path intellisense and Auto import
You can try if My Code Actions can be used to construct a Quick Fix for these types of PROBLEMS/squiggles
I would like to change the following VS code behavior but can't find a way to do so:
When the cursor is on some items a box pops up with info about that item. I find this extremely annoying as it often blocks what I'm trying to edit. How to disable the pop up?
I code CSS on a single line, such as:
h1 {something; something; something; } And the next CSS on the next line. No Spaces!
But when I save it VS code automatically reformulates it, putting each something on a new line. This is extremely, extremely annoying! It horribly wastes space, and forces me to scroll down a lot to find something I want to edit. How do I get VS code to stop messing with My Coding Style?
To disable the pop up. Do these necessary changes Disable pop up
To stop the CSS formatting, just see in the extensions if you have downloaded CSS formatter, if so then uninstall it or disable it.
i use visual studio code to create my flutter app, but since 1 month ago, i detected as if the editor have a double autocomplete.
When i write for example: "Container" i have the autocomplete while i'm writing, but if i press Enter it won't add the brackets at the end (before, it did!)
And, if i write: "child" i have the autocomplete while i'm writing, but if i press Enter, the cursor will be with a selection, and there is no autocomplete until i click in somewhere to remove the auto-selection, or i write the command completely without autocomplete.
It's like if there were a double autocomplete in conflict, that select the words after i press enter.
Autocomplete working:
Strange auto-selection and then no-autocomplete:
Furthermore, if i write "setState" and press Enter to autocomplete the function, i get the whole function selected and tabbed of 4 tabulation on the right. Same for initState.
I tried to disable every extension and restart, but i had same problem.
I'm so slow now to write flutter code, because i have to remember every CamelCase word and property and write them in every single char, or click in somewhere to make autocomplete works.
Fixed!
In setting i had to disable LSP.
"dart.previewLsp": false
I've the same issue, after some research I found this:
https://github.com/Dart-Code/Dart-Code/issues/2823#issuecomment-725630953
I'm not sure this is the right way because I didn't have try yet but the problem on GitHub issues seams the same you describe, apparently this solution works with LSP enabled
I am using Eclipse and I am coding java. I really like the "Smart Caret" option for the Home and End buttons since it allows you to go the start and end of a line but not past any whitespaces. Also the Home key will take you to the start of a comment, rather than the start of the line. And you can cycle through different positions with these keys. And this is how the editor was by default, from installation.
However one thing that has happened a few times now is that when I am writing code in the editor, this functionality just vanishes. It is seemingly random when it happens and the weirdest part, I think, is that it is file specific. So all of a sudden when I am writing, the Home and End keys start taking me to the very start and end of the line I am on. It is as if I am accidentally pressing some hotkey to disable these Smart Carets for the specific file.
It does not help to disable and re-enable the Smart Caret option in Preferences. And beyond that I do not really know what to do. Is this a bug? It is incredibly annoying when it happens. Being used to things working one way, then having them spontaneously change and then again having them back to the default when I am editing a different file.
So, Ive been using Visual Studio code now for several months, and I love it. BUT, there is one thing that is driving me nuts that I'm tired of dealing with.
VSCode has a terrible habit of changing my text when i hit TAB or ENTER at the end of typing. For example, Let's say I'm writing something and I want to tab over a few tabs. So, as an example:
I type "fix", meaning, i hit tab at the end so I can tab over a few columns. When I do this, my line changes to:
"<fix></fix>" (hope this doesnt looks weird, I had to edit to the tags wouldnt be hidden)
So, in order to tab to the right for in-line comments or something, I have to hit SPACE before i hit tab. Lame.
Similar stuff happens when I hit enter immediately after typing something. It changes my text to something else before leaving the line. So, again, I find myself adding an extra space at the end of every line.
Does an extra space hurt me in the long run? No. But my OCD is freaking out over it.
I dont have tab autocomplete turned on, so why is this behaving as such?
I'm using vscode on a Mac. I disabled and uninstalled all extensions... still happens.
So yeah, I've messed with this for days, and only now after I post a question do I figure it out. These two settings took care of my issues:
// When enabled, emmet abbreviations are expanded when pressing TAB.
"emmet.triggerExpansionOnTab": false,
// Controls if suggestions should be accepted 'Enter' - in addition to 'Tab'. Helps to avoid ambiguity between inserting new lines or accepting suggestions.
"editor.acceptSuggestionOnEnter": false
Emmet was the tab issue, and the accept suggestion on enter was the second, even though no suggestion was showing. Hope this helps someone else...
