PostgreSQL OR condition not executing if one of them is true - postgresql

My 2nd 'and' is throwing an error. I'm checking to see if either: 1.) dateRange1.value.start does not exist OR 2.) dateRange1.value.start is >= my job_start variable. #2 works when I have a value present in dateRange1.value.start, but when it's empty (ie; !dateRange1.value.start), I'm getting a "invalid input syntax for type date" error. The same exact type of statement works directly above where I'm checking the jobNameFilter.value. Why is this causing issues for my dateRange1.value.start?

I am trying to update jsonb column in java with mybatis.
Following is my mapper method

I am getting the following error while updating the jsonb (external_group) cloumn.
### Error updating database. Cause: org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: The column index is out of range: 2, number of columns: 1.
### The error may involve com.apds.mybatis.mapper.ServiceUserMapper.update-Inline
I am able to update with the same way for non-jsonb columns.
Also if I am putting hardcoded value it's working for jsonb columns.
How to solve this error while updating jsonb column?
You should not enclose #{} in single quotes because it will become part of a literal rather than a placeholder. i.e.
external_group = external_group || '{"service_name": "?"}' where ...
So, there will be only one placeholder in the PreparedStatement and you get the error.
The correct way is to concatenate the #{} in SQL.
You may also need to cast the literal to jsonb type explicitly.

The SQL being executed would look as follows.

ELSE value not executed in CASE expression PostgreSQL

I'm using CASE expression to display "NamaAyah" or "NamaIbu" or "NamaWali", and if all of them is empty, the default value will display "ORTU-'NomorPokok' ".
But the default value not displayed, it just displays symbol "-" in my table. I think the value in ELSE statement not executed.
Postgre Version : PostgreSQL 9.4.15

The expression you have can simpler be:
ELSE 'ORTU-'||"NomorPokok"
Apart from that, the only reasonable explanation for what you display is that there are literal - in one or more of your columns "NamaAyah", "NamaIbu" and "NamaWali". Did you check that?

i am trying to get values from database by using following query

after creating this i also created a class to call this query and get data but when i deploy my project i am getting following error
WARN - SQL Command failed with: ERROR: operator does not exist: character varying !
Hint: No operator matches the given name and argument type(s). You might need to add explicit type casts.
please help to solve this issue.
i finally found the mistake what i made.
the problem in the above query is i'm trying to make type cast of null value
now i changed the condition to check 'is not null' than "not like ''"
and even i don't need to add cast operation it's useless.

How does sql evaluate ISNUMERIC(ISNULL(VALUE, 'blah'))

My assumption was that it would return a true if that value was numeric (within the isnumeric range) but FALSE if the ISNULL returns 'blah'. Seems like my assumption was off...
I'm using the it in the following way

Will produce NULL anytime NpiNumber is NULL. The reason is that NULL + any string will still return NULL. The solution is to simply use the COALESCE function

else 'not valid: ' + COALESCE(c.NpiNumber, 'NULL VALUE')

select ISNUMERIC(ISNULL(NULL, 'blah')),

Returns 0, 1, 0 - so your logic is correct.
When SQL's not behaving I like to simplify my query. Try running the query without your case statement first. If the results look right, then add additional logic.
What collation is your database? It's always a good idea to keep your column names properly cased (I'm looking at that all-lowercase column name over there...).
You don't require ISNULL. ISNUMERIC will return 1 if it's numberic or 0 if it's NULL or non-numeric.

Also as Euric Mentioned you may want to look at your all-lowercase column name.

Jasper-reports: Error: operator does not exist date = boolean

[EDIT: This problem was a result of a bug within version 3.7.6]
The following postgresql query is returning an error:
operator does not exist date = boolean.
I can't figure out why. Here is the postgresql code that is giving me the error:

What does the above error message mean?
What is the value for $P{rpt_date_beg} ? That's where things go wrong. Check the real query, might be in the errorlog, and do some debugging. Maybe some quotes ' are missing around the date value.
