I want to use Git with eclipse (Neon 2). For that I went to the "Git Perspective", clone a repository, create a new branch from "master" and found some files under "Working Tree". So far it works as expected.
But now I lookup for a specific file so I open the resource dialog (Ctrl+Shift+r) and type part of the filename. But nothing is found.
So I tried it with the file search (Ctrl+h) and lookup for some keywords and it's the some problem: No file is found.
Is this an eclipse bug or is it my mistake?
Yesterday I move my Eclipse workspace following this method to a bigger partition. It works fine I got back all my projects. Except about one option:
My projects are managed with SVN, I can still commit or update, but when I want to get the SVN history (right click on a procject => Team => Show History) I got the following error:
'Fetching SVN revision history' has encountered a problem
org.apache.subversion.javahl.ClientException: The path is not a working copy folder.
svn: '/home/admin/workspace/myproject' is not a working copy
The workspace's old path was /home/admin/workspace/ and the new one is /media/1to/workspace/.
It seems that there is still a hardcoded path on the history config. Do you know how I can find this path in order to correct it?
I am not able to setup SVN in X-Code 5. Iv tried these steps:
1) Goto-Xcode-Preferences-Accounts-Add Repositories (clicking "+" sign).
2) Enter the url path of the project https://ipaddress:8578/svn/comapny_name/projectname/iphone/
3)Enter the credentials. At this point of time i get this error message
Xcode has modified the URL.
Xcode repository accounts represent the root of the repository.
Subpaths can be checked out from the checkout window.
the Repository was added successfully with the base path https://ipaddress:8578/svn/comapny_name/
When i checkout the project it shows authentication warning as i dont have the permission to access the base path https://ipaddress:8578/svn/comapny_name/
but i have permissions to access the project folder https://ipaddress:8578/svn/comapny_name/projectname/iphone/
My question
1) how can i checkout the project from the project folder
I tried to checkout from terminal by providing the full path of the folder and i got it successfully but the problem is when i open the project xcode crashes with out any warning
( i think its due to difference in the svn paths) i checked by disabling the svn then no crash
2) how can solve this
I have the same issue
I haven't fixed it directly
But there is an alternative to update your local working copy
Open the terminal
Navigate to your SVN directory
And type the command svn update
In my case, the output:
Updating '.':
...
...
Updated to revision 208064
And XCode 5 updates with the new file directly
I am successfully pushing my project to GitHub using EGit. My repository is called HelloWorld. My project in eclipse is also called HelloWorld. My problem is when i push the project it is upload the project under the folder HelloWorld. So the result is the repository HelloWorld then the folder HelloWorld and the the src folder. To be more understandable here is the link of the project. I want under the repository HelloWorld to have the src folder. How can I achieve that?
The key lies in when you create the project in eclipse.
First step, you create the Java project in eclipse. Right click on the project and choose Team > Share>Git.
In the Configure Git Repository dialog, ensure that you select the option to create the Repository in the parent folder of the project..
Then you can push to github.
N.B: Eclipse will give you a warning about putting git repositories in your workspace. So when you create your project, set your project directory outside the default workspace.
Simple Steps:
-Open Eclipse.
Select Project which you want to push on github->rightclick.
select Team->share Project->Git->Create repository->finish.(it will ask to login in Git account(popup).
Right click again to Project->Team->commit.
you are done
I use these Simple Steps when I already have committed locally a new project:
Open github.com and sign in and create a new repository.
Copy URL of the new repository.
Open Eclipse.
Select Project which you want to push on github->rightclick.
select Team->share Project->Git-> "push branch '' ...".
Follow the wizard until it finishes.
I have the same issue and solved it by reading this post, while solving it, I hitted a problem: auth failed.
And I finally solved it by using a ssh key way to authorize myself. I found the EGit offical guide very useful and I configured the ssh way successfully by refer to the Eclipse SSH Configuration section in the link provided.
Hope it helps.
If you ever face an authentication issue in any IDE - Eclipse, sts, etc. Simply while creating a remote repository select ssh protocol it won't ask you any username or password. (But will create a file ed25519 on your system which will be having an ssh key). Now you can push or do other activities using IDE without having any authentication issues.
In case of Git bash use command $ssh-keygen (ask for file give proper file path)
suppose you give name as y.pub.
Run the command $cat y.pub
copy the ssh key(starting something as ssh-rsa...) and paste in GitHub(opened in browser your remote repository)
now type command $ssh -t git#github.com
If you get an error while using the above command changed the command to
$ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -c "your userid"
then open the file by using $cat ed25519.pub file
copy the ssh key & paste into Github. Now you are authenticated to perform the various operations.
The other option if you want to use https only is to generate pat(personal access token).go to github-go to settings-go to developer settings-go to personal access token. If you aready had token delete it else click on generate new token.Give anything in note.Click on repo (you can select multiple options too) click generate token.Copy the token and now in your ide instead of password use the token.I hope it will solve your problem.
I have a project which I have been on for ages which is not connected to any source code repository.
I want to start using BitBucket now, however I am not sure how to go about it. I have created a project in BitBucket.
Should I now clone and check out in Xcode or should I add a repository in xcode. Anyone have any idea?
I have tried cloning using the URL from bitbucket but it just comes back with an error in Xcode
I've met the same problem and here's how I solved it:
(Assume your project is not already under local source control) Create a new project under LOCAL source control (Please note that adding remote source control at this stage may not be successful)
Make this new project a clone of your old project - drag files, add frameworks, etc.
In menu "Source Control" -> -> "Configure "
In the new window, click on "Remotes" -> "+" -> "Add Remote"
Name: anything (you can use "BitBucket")
Address: https://accountname#bitbucket.org/accountname/reponame.git
"Source Control" -> "Commit"
Select "push to remote" at the left bottom corner
Click "Commit"
Check on BitBucket website to see if it's actually pushed to it
As of 2017, xCode now automatically creates repositories for new projects. To push to a new BitBucket repo, go to 'Source Control' > 'Commit...' in xCode and make your first local commit.
Next open a terminal and navigate to to the top-level directory of your project. If you ls -a in here you should see the .git/ directory has been created. In the same directory, add your remote repo with the following (replace with your username/team name and repo name):
git remote add origin https://USERNAME#bitbucket.org/USERNAME/REPO_NAME.git
Go back into xCode, go to 'Source Control' > 'Push...'. You'll be prompted to enter your BitBucket password. Press OK and you're done! Source control commands will now be working within xCode.
I did that through command line and it is fairly straightforward.
create a new repo on bitbucket
assuming your xcode project is not under local git version control yet
go to command line, cd to your xcode project directory, and the follow the bitbucket doc: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/BITBUCKET/Import+code+from+an+existing+project
git init
git remote add origin git#bitbucket.org:<user_id>/<repo>.git
git add .
git commit -am 'init commit'
git push -u origin master
go back to xcode and you should be able to interact with bitbucket through xcode from this point on
Using the following URL structure
https://accountname#bitbucket.org/accountname/reponame.git
(Taken from here) did the job for me
It is easier to:
create your local Git repo through XCode and add your code there
in command line, add the remote 'origin' toward your BitBucket repo, along with your ssh credentials (in ~/.ssh/config): see
"Bitbucket + XCode 4.2 + Git".
"Using the SSH protocol with bitbucket"
do at least one "git push myrepo origin master" to initiate the first push
This link helped me, I will also copy and paste the instructions in case the link goes away.
http://sketchytech.blogspot.com/2016/02/send-xcode-project-to-bitbucket.html
Sending a non-git Xcode Project to BitBucket from GitHub is the most popular place to host your repos but if you are looking for a free service for teams that are 5 members or less then take a look at BitBucket. Here are instructions for moving a local Xcode project onto BitBucket. (Note: if you opted for a local Git when you created your project you should be able to skip steps 3 and 4.)
-Sign-up for BitBucket and create a repo
-In Xcode go to Source Control menu
-Select "Create a working copy ...."
-Select project and press Create in dialog window
-Return to Source Control menu and select -> Configure ...
-Click "Remotes" tab
-Press add "+"
-Copy and paste the https address you see at the top right of your repo page into the remote location in Xcode
-Go to Source Control menu and select Push... to upload the project
Pushing code updates to BitBucket
Now you have it set up whenever you want to push code to the project:
-Go to Source Control menu and select Commit
-Write a commit note and uncheck anything not to be included in the commit
-Return to Source Control menu and select push
-Select the correct branch and Push
Pulling code down from BitBucket repo
To get code provided by others down from BitBucket:
-Go to Source Control menu and select Pull.
I use SourceTree and Xcode 6.1 and in my case I first create a repository on bitbucket, then I clone my repository on an empty folder (using SourceTree or via command line) then when you create the new project on XCode in that folder, you can commit push and pull normally from XCode
I found this youtube video and it helped me a lot, used this Atlasssian help for ssh authentication, and encountered an Xcode problem for which the solution can be found in this page.
Most simplest way is go to
Xcode > preference > #accounts > click '+' button on corner left
... then this popup will appear ...
just click Bitbucket Cloud ...
Enter ID with password...
And that's it...
