Bear with me if my question does not adhere to standards or sounds stupid, it is my first time asking. I am using vscode for c development. The problem is for all header files, default language used by vscode is C++ instead of C as I require. Even if I change the language to C using the panel that appears at the bottom of the editor, it still reverts to C++ after I close and restart the editor. How do i permanently make the editor recognize C?
I simply did not pay attention to options appearing on top of options after you click on the language in recognized at the bottom. Just clicked on "Change language associations for'.h'", set it to C and that was it.
I've recently started using the Visual Studio Code editor. I'm really loving it, but there's one critical feature (for me) that I haven't been able to find. Is there a method list, similar to the Navigator in NetBeans or Member dropdown in Visual Studio?
Yes, there is the workbench.action.gotoSymbol command. On Windows and Linux it's set to CTRL+Shift+O by default, on Mac it's Cmd+Shift+O.
If this command isn't available for the file types you are working with then you should take a look at the VSCode extensions. Not all languages support this feature.
Update: As stated in the comments by #jeff-xiao this extension is Deprecated and it's now a built in feature of Visual Studio code. It should be available at the bottom of file explorer as "Outline" view.

There is now an Extension that supports this. Code Outline creates a panel in the "Explorer" section and for JavaScript, will list variables and functions in a file. I've been using this for a while now and it scratches the itch I had. Other commenters have mentioned it supports Python and PHP well.
It still seems to be in development but I haven't had any issues. Development version available on GitHub. If you're the author reading this - thanks!

If Code Outline is not visible, you can show it by:
Invoke Code's Go to symbol command:
macOS: cmd+shift+o (the letter o, not zero)
Windows/Linux: ctrl+shift+o
Typing a colon (:) after invoking Go to symbol will group symbols by type (classes, interfaces, methods, properties, variables). Then just scroll to the methods section.
In 2020 version of VSCode
Cmd+P
# - Find symbol across files
# - Find symbol within file
#: - Group symbols within a file
In VSCode 1.24 you can do that.
Right click on EXPLORER on the side bar and checked Outline.
There is a new release that can do that!

There's no such feature today,
the CTRL+SHIFT+O == CTRL+P # doesn't work for all languages.
As a last resort you can use the search panel - although it is not so fast an easy to use as you'd like - you can enter this regex in the search panel to find all functions:

Make sure you have 'PHP Symbol' plugin then you can get all methods and class in 'OUTLINE' Sidebar's Bottom.

Visual Studio Code market place has a very nice extension named Go To Method for navigating only methods in a code file.
Hit Ctrl+Shift+P and type the install extensions and press enter
Now type Add to method in search box of extensions market place and press enter.
Click install to install the extension.
Last step is to bind a keyboard shortcut to the command workbench.action.gotoMethod to make it a real productivity thing for a developer.

might be what you are looking for. Works perfectly with my TypeScript project.
It is an extra part to the answer to this question here but I thought it might be useful. As many people mentioned, Visual Studio Code has the OUTLINE part which provides the ability to browse to different function and show them on the side.
I also wanted to add that if you check the follow cursor mark, it highlights that function name in the OUTLINE view, which is very helpful in browsing and seeing which function you are in.

There is a plugin called show functions which lists all the function definitions in a file. It also allows you to sort the function so can search them easily.
CTRL+F12 (CMD+F12 for Mac) - opens for me all methods and members in PHP class.
For find method in all files you can press CTRL + P and then start search with #

Take a look at Show Functions plugin.
It can list functions, symbols, bookmarks by configurable regular expressions. Regular expressions are a real saver, expecially when you're not using a mainstream language and when CodeOutline doesn't do the job.
It's ugly to see a split window with these functions (CodeOutline seems to be better integrated) but at least there's something to use

I have been trying it and found it useful to list my typescript class methods.
I am using XCode 4.3 and I am creating a tab bar application following an example in my book (likely used for XCode version < 4.3) but when I add a new tab and turn on check-mark to generate XIB file while adding a new file of Cocoa Touch, the GUI doesn't appear but display instead its generated XML file content. Do you know how to fix this ?
I find each time there is a new version of XCode, the Gui and defined functions seem to change a lot, doesn't this annoy for low programmers like me ? (By low, I mean newbies and those who can't keep up with such rapid changes). Thank you.

Right-click on the .xib file and choose Open as...
There will be a list of options. Currently you are using "Source Code", which displays as XML. Use Interface Builder - iOS instead.
This will be remembered between sessions. I don't know how it got set to this in the first place.
Alternatively, you may be in the Version editor instead of the Standard editor - this will show xibs as XML in order to correctly display changes.
For example, I have Class A (both header and cpp file), how do I know which cpp files or header files used Class A?

As convenient as this feature might be, unfortunately as of Xcode 4.3, this feature is still NOT present.
The Xcode Related Items menu can be accessed by clicking the "four squares" icon at the editor's top left, or pressing CMD-1
The Related Items menu includes Included By, where you can see all of the other classes that include this class.
I have two targets set up for my app (a lite version and a pro version) and I want to integrate some subtle differences in the code for each of them (e.g. the pro version will not show any iAd banners).
I have been looking around and I see the easiest way to do this is through the use of preprocessor macros. The issue I'm facing is how to set them up in Xcode 4. I want to set up a macro called 'PRO_VERSION' in one target & 'LITE_VERSION' in the other.
Below is an example of how I intend to use them:

The build setting you need to change is called 'Preprocessor Macros' and it can be found in the 'Build Settings' tab of the Project Settings pane (use the search box to find it). Select each target in turn in the left-hand side of the Project Settings pane then modify the Preprocessor Macros setting.
The setting is specified as a space-separated list of preprocessor macros in the form 'foo' or 'foo=bar'.
I'm not on my mac at the moment, so I can't give full step-by-step directions, but I believe this should be accurate, if not as detailed as I would otherwise be. Create a new build target. Go to the configuration screen for this new target. There should be a tab along the lines of compilation options. In this tab there should be a row for other compiler flags. In there, put -DPRO_VERSION.
