Loading a view controller from viewDidLoad - iphone

Hello I want to create a tabbar application in iPhone using X-code.I have one splash screen and then after that I have my Home Screen where I want to create tabbar in that view. so, I create a tabbar in my ViewDidLoad method.
- (void)viewDidLoad {
NSLog(#"in Home");
tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init];
homeViewController = [[HomeViewController alloc]init];
NextViewController = [[NextViewController alloc]init];
tabBarController.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:homeViewController,nextViewController,nil];
window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds];
[window addSubview:tabBarController.view];
[window makeKeyAndVisible];
[super viewDidLoad];
}
Now when I compile & Run, It will call the HomeView again & again and when I tap on 2nd tab it will not call the NextView.
So, what is wrong in this code Plz help me..

Aren't you adding the homeViewController again and again since viewDidLoad is in homeViewController...

Can I recommend that you start a new project from the Tab Bar Application template just to look at how it's done when it's done right? You might even keep that and retrofit your splash screen into it.

issue in DDMenuController menuViewController like facebook

My First Question
DDMenuController(facebook split menu) Must be on RootviewController? it can not be on other viewController which we push on rootViewCotroller?
if answer is no then
Second Question
i am trying to make split viewController like facebook for that i am using this sample
https://github.com/devindoty/DDMenuController
now what i want to do is i dont want set DDMenuControl as rootviewcontroller in appdelegate in my rootcontrollers there are view buttons which push my all other ViewController
so what i want is from my rootViewController' Buttons i push another controller and then that view should get pushed and same time there should be DDMenuController too
so what will happen is on navigation bar there wont be back button there will be splitting screen button like facebook and from there i can go to another view controller
now let me tell you what i have achieved so far my rootViewController is getting displayed and then from there i push my other ViewController and on navigation bar splitting button is also getting displayed but its not working let me should you code to make this all clear
this is how i set my rootViewContoller in app delegate
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary
*)launchOptions
{
FirstPadViewController *mainController = [[FirstPadViewController alloc] init];
navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:mainController];
self.window.rootViewController = navController;
self.window.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
return YES;
}
so it get displayed with some buttons from where i can push my other viewController
this is how i push my other ViewController
- (IBAction)goToCamera:(id)sender {
AROverlayPadViewController *svController = [[AROverlayPadViewController alloc] init];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:svController animated:YES];
[svController release];
svController = nil;
}
so AROverlayPadViewController is getting pushed
and in AROverlayPadViewController's viewWillAppear this is what i do for achieving splitting screen like facebook
-(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated{
DDMenuController *rootController = [[DDMenuController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self];
LeftController *leftController = [[LeftController alloc] init];
rootController.leftViewController = leftController;
}
splitting button is getting displayed but when i press it is not working
now i really dont have any clue what to do any help will be highly appreciated
Answering the first question: actually it's a yes. This is how you do it, in the method that sends you to your nextScreen:
-(void) goToAnotherController {
OtherViewController *nextScreen = [OtherViewController alloc] init];
UINavigationController *navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:nextScreen];
DDMenuController *menuController = (DDMenuController*)((AppDelegate*) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]).menuController;
[menuController setRootController:navController animated:YES];
}

Single View to tab bar view

How to go into a tab based view from a Single view , CAn any one give me refrence for creating a tab based application programmatically from single view ?
you need to allocate and initialize the UITabeBarController and add it on your view controller/ App Delegate.
You can do one of the two:
Go to the AppDelegate.m and change the navigation controller to a TabBarController. Then you can add to the tab bar any view you like
Create a new DEMO application based on tabBar (attached) then you can see how the delegate works and copy the code you need.
Firsts Create all object of UIViewController and UINavigationController in AppDelegate.h file and use following method of AppDelegate.m
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
{
self.window=[[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds ]];
self.viewCon=[[ViewController alloc] init];
self.navCon=[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self.viewCon];
self.navCon.navigationBar.tintColor=[UIColor blackColor];
self.viewCon.title=#"First View";
self.fView=[[FirstViewController alloc] init];
self.FnavCon=[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self.fView];
self.FnavCon.navigationBar.tintColor=[UIColor blackColor];
self.fView.title=#"Secound View";
self.sView=[[SecoundViewController alloc] init];
self.SnavCon=[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self.sView];
self.SnavCon.navigationBar.tintColor=[UIColor blackColor];
self.sView.title=#"Third View";
.
.
// create UIViewController and UINavigationController As you need
.
.
.
UIImage *img1=[UIImage imageNamed:#"Australia.gif"];
self.tbItem1=[[UITabBarItem alloc] initWithTitle:#"First Page" image:img1 tag:1];
self.viewCon.tabBarItem=self.tbItem1;
UIImage *img2=[UIImage imageNamed:#"Cameroon.gif"];
self.tbItem2=[[UITabBarItem alloc] initWithTitle:#"Secound Page" image:img2 tag:2];
self.fView.tabBarItem=self.tbItem2;
UIImage *img3=[UIImage imageNamed:#"Canada.png"];
self.tbItem3=[[UITabBarItem alloc] initWithTitle:#"Third Page" image:img3 tag:3];
self.sView.tabBarItem=self.tbItem3;
NSMutableArray *viewArr=[[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
[viewArr addObject:self.navCon];
[viewArr addObject:self.FnavCon];
[viewArr addObject:self.SnavCon];
self.tbCon=[[UITabBarController alloc] init];
self.tbCon.viewControllers=viewArr;
[self.window addSubview:tbCon.view];
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
return YES;
}
My Code is basic demo of how to create TabBar and how to add ViewController, this might be helpful for you.
Thanks :)
You can create tabbar application from single view based application. Go to xib add UITabbar from objects and add delegates of that. If you did this, you have to put tabbar in every view of tabbar section. It's simple but increase repetitive code.

Show login screen before tab-controller view

i have a tabBarController application and using .xib files for the interface not the storyboard
i have this code by default in the appdelegate
self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]];
// Override point for customization after application launch.
UIViewController *viewController1 = [[PopAdsFirstViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"PopAdsFirstViewController" bundle:nil];
UIViewController *viewController2 = [[PopAdsSecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"PopAdsSecondViewController" bundle:nil];
self.tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init];
self.tabBarController.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:viewController1, viewController2, nil];
self.window.rootViewController = self.tabBarController;
[self.window makeKeyAndVisible];
return YES;
i have created a Login View and don't know how to show it before the tabBarView and hide t after a successful login.
One way would be to show it as a modalView on launch. Dismissing upon successfull login?
eg:
UIViewController myLoginViewController = [[MyLoginViewController alloc] init withNibNamed:"MyLoginViewController"]; //Or whatever you instantiation is
[myTabViewController presentModalViewController:myLoginViewController animated:YES];
And to dismiss it (Hide it)
//This should be done from the original View Controller i.e. myTabViewController preferably in a delegate called by the modal view controller.
[self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];
Documentation on modalViewControllers:
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#featuredarticles/ViewControllerPGforiPhoneOS/ModalViewControllers/ModalViewControllers.html
The way that I did it for one of my apps is to just add them in the correct order. Add your tabbar controller to your window, then add the login controller over the top of the tab bar. Then show your window. The user won't see anything but your login controller. Once you login, you can just remove the login controller from view.
This way is probably best if you have information you need to hide until login. The other way is to only launch the login view only. On successful login, remove the login and add the tab bar controller. Either way is fine.
Presenting modally is probably the easiest, but requires a view in place before presenting. So if the data and view under the login controller isn't that sensitive, you could consider this option.
Another way would be using LoginViewControllerDelegate in your appDelegate.h file
In your .h
#import "yourLoginViewController"
//and add LoginViewControllerDelegate
Then in your .m
- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions {
yourLoginViewController *loginView = [[yourLoginViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"yourLoginViewController" bundle:nil];
loginView.delegate = self;
[window addSubview:loginView.view];
[window makeKeyAndVisible];
}
//add this one
- (void)loginViewControllerDidFinish:(yourLoginViewController *)loginViewController {
[window addSubview:tabBarController.view];
}

UITabBarController only showing half of its UITabBar (off screen)

My UITabBar is not completely showing after I present a UITabBarController from a UIViewController. Please can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
My code is:
//some method
LoggedInViewController *lvc = [[[LoggedInViewController alloc] initWithAccount:account] autorelease];
[self presentModalViewController:lvc animated:YES];
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
self.tabController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init];
LoggedInFeedNavigationController *navController = [[LoggedInFeedNavigationController alloc] initWithAccount:self.account];
[self.tabController setViewControllers:[NSArray arrayWithObject:navController]];
[self.view addSubview:self.tabController.view];
[super viewDidLoad];
}
It's not a good practice to do:
[viewController1.view addSubview:viewController2.view];
The point of the MVC design is lost. The view controller should get your data (from the model) and put it in the view. If you have more than one view just arrange the functionality of the views to accept the corresponding data.
So if you need a tab bar controller you should do the following:
// assuming you are in the same initial controller
UITabBarController* pTabBarControllerL = [[UITabBarController alloc] init];
MyFirstController* pFirstControllerL = [[MyFirstController alloc] init];
[pTabBarControllerL setViewControllers:[NSArray arrayWithObject:pFirstControllerL]];
// perhaps set more tab bar controller properties - button images and so on
[self presentModalViewController:pTabBarControllerL animated:YES];
// release the memory you do not need
-(void)viewDidLoad {
// do your work in pFirstControllerL
}
PS: You should not subclass UINavigationController and UITabBarController.
Actually according to the Apple's recommendations UITabBarViewController should be the root in the UIWindow hierarchy. We had hard times trying to put TabBar VCs or Navigation VCs not to the root.

Problem adding a rootViewController to UINavigationController

I am having a problem with the following code:
MyViewController *aController = [[MyViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"MyView" bundle:nil];
self.myController = aController;
myController.title = #"List";
[aController release];
UINavigationController *bController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:myController];
self.rootNavController = bController;
[bController release];
[self.view addSubview:rootNavController.view];
When I run my program I get the problem where my view for myController is repeated along the y-axis all the way until the bottom of the screen. If I add myController.view to the root view it works ok. I only have the problem when I add myController as the rootViewController of my navigation controller.
Thanks in advance for any help!
The default navigation controller project template defines -applicationDidFinishLaunching this way:
- (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application {
// Override point for customization after app launch
[window addSubview:[navigationController view]];
[window makeKeyAndVisible];
}
I realize you're instantiating your nav controller with alloc init rather than getting it from the XIB, however, it seems you ought to be adding it to the window's view tree.
Where is the code you are showing being called from?
The problem was that I did not specify the frame. Without specifying a frame using CGRectMake the view controller was just filling the entire space.
The line I needed was something like this:
rootNavController.view.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 431);
Try this:
MyViewController *aController = [[MyViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"MyView" bundle:nil];
self.myController = aController;
[aController release];
UINavigationController *bController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:myController];
self.rootNavController = bController;
[bController release];
[window addSubview:rootNavController.view];//<--What are you adding the navigationController to??? Another ViewController? TabController? or Window?
Then in the -(void)viewDidLoad method of MyViewController you can put
self.navigationItem.title = #"List";
