I am moving my first steps with the Zend Framework. I have it on my Linux partition and it works fine. Now, I want to use it on Vista. I have downloaded and installed Zend Server CE. Seems to work.
However, when I try to edit some file inside my Apache htdocs directory, surprise: I have no permissions! I have found out that - despite the fact that I am administrator - the whole Programs folder is read-only! I tried to change this, but without success: it puts it back to read-only as soon as it has finished. What can I do? It is not possible to work like this...
Two things you can try-
1) Run your text editor as an administrator before editing files.
2) Reinstall ZSCE outside of your Programs folder.

I'm working on a website and right now I am using FileZilla to make changes to it. Every time I make a change, I have to re-upload the file to the website through FTP and then wait for it to update online. I want to just deploy my project to localhost so I can get instant results and then just upload the whole project when it's finished. How do I do this? All I have is a set of directories with the files in them.
You really need to use a web/application server such as IIS/Apache.
For PHP projects go for WampServer/XAMPP.Easy to setup and works very well.
(maybe too obvious)
If you are working only static content based on html/css/js you can just edit and view changes directly by opening the local file in your browser and refresh each time.
Furthermore for css and html you can edit your code "live", directly into browser and see changes immidiately.
Another option is to edit files with an editor that supports ftp like notepad++, you can connect via ftp, open and edit files directly from server (like php, html, css,js) because once you save the editor will automatically upload your changes.
Heres a good explanation about notepad++ and ftp plugin.
Localserver
If you work with php (and even only with html/css) the best choise is to run a local server that rappresents a real environment in which your code will run. As said by others XAMPP is a good choise for begginers because of simple installation and management.
XAMPP download
XAMPP tutorial
Once installed put your folder inside C:/xampp/htdocs/yourCodeFolder
Run the xampp control panel and start the Apache server.
Finally navigate with your browser to: http://localhost/yourCodeFolder/
I have been using Netbeans for several months now and like it a lot. I am trying to enable a way to create a project which accesses live files on my server to make changes. When I create a project using a remote source, it starts downloading all the server files to my computer. This would be just fine, except for the fact that (a) the server has a few gigs of files on it and (b) there are two of us that will be making changes on the server.
In the past, I have worked with IDEs that just open an FTP or SFTP connection and will download the file you want to edit, and then upload that file back to the server when you save it. Preferably, this is what I would like Netbeans to do.
I have tried adding a FTP folder in Windows, but Netbeans won't open it. I have tried using Swish and setting up an SFTP folder, and Netbeans won't find the Swish folder altogether.
On a side note, I understand what I am doing is horrible practice, but it is a small site and I am usually the only one working on it. I haven't worked on the website in the past several weeks and just thought it would be easier to get access directly than re-downloading the entire server's worth of code/images/videos/etc. Any help would be appreciated.
NetBeans does not support what you want to do. However, if you put your site under Subversion/Git (revision control), you could check out the content, modify it locally and push modification back remotely.
This would also help avoiding code clashes when your friends work on your website too.
Actually Netbeans supports this for php projects.
Just choose :
PHP Application from remote server
(but git is the best solution anw as it gives you version control as well but the above is useful if you want your server files to be updated when you just press ctr+s)
Just started working with the Zend Framework Zf Tool and I've already come across a problem I've spent hours trying to figure out.
For some reason when I run the Zf show version command I get a ZF ERROR indicating it cant find the Zend Framework a to add it to my php.ini include_directory.
Here is my setup. I'm currently have WAMP installed on my local machine.
c:\wamp
I copied the zf.bat and zf.php files into the servers php directory. The path to the php directory has been added to the path environment variable. I'm pretty sure it works because I run the zf show version command in the console and get a ZF ERROR.
I keep my copy of the Zend Framework inside
c:\wamp\includes
So I added this to the php.ini include_path. include_path = ".;c:\wamp\includes"
I checked that this setting was set correctly by checking phpinfo() function. Which shows
include_path .;c:\wamp\includes .;c:\wamp\includes
So I think I have everything setup correctly. I can't work out what I'm missing.
I also tried setting the ZEND_TOOL_INCLUDE_PATH with no success.
Any help would be appreciated. PS I did check other posts here but none of the suggested
I have worked it out! Finally. The way I have my local wamp setup there is 2 php.ini files I have to edit.
The one that made the different is the php.ini inside the Apache2 directory.
Thanks everyone for their help. I appreciate it.
Well im not sure how you downloaded installed the framework but my guess is that you dont have enough of you include path based on the way Zend release packages are constructed. The Zend folder contained in the Zend Framework installation needs its parent folder to be on the include path so typically you would add something like:
c:\wamp\includes\ZF_BASE_DIR\library
This is because the zf package structure looks like:
ZendFramework-VERSION/
README.txt
INSTALL.txt
LICENSE.txt
bin/
library/
If you extracted ZF from the archive you will get a Zend-some_version folder, but the actual ZF is in
"include_path\Zend-some_version\library\Zend", so your include path should point include_path\Zend-some_version\library\
Just to add to what Tjorriemorrie said and to explain in detail how I got my installation on win 7 to work as simply as possible:
Download your preferred Zend package from "http://framework.zend.com/downloads/latest" to "C:\wamp\www\"
unzip your zip file so that you have the extracted Zend folder (with version name) under "C:\wamp\www\".
Rename your folder by removing the version so that you end up with "C:\wamp\www\ZendFramework"
Run a simple php file with phpinfo() in your browser. Note the entries for: "_SERVER["PATH"]" under PHP Variables
"Path" under Environment
"Loaded Configuration File" at the top
"include_path" under Core and
"extension_dir" under Core as well.
"_SERVER["PATH"]" and "Path" must be identical (no brainer)
There should be only one listing for your apache server and that should be the listing under "Loaded Configuration File" but without the "php.ini". So, if your "Loaded Configuration File" is "C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.22\bin\php.ini" you must have "C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.22\bin" in your path and that must be the ONLY reference to an apache server. If you have multiple references to apache servers Windows may pick the wrong one depending on your PATH order and use the wrong php.ini file.
Your "extension_dir" will tell you the version and location of php you are using. It is common to have different php folders lying around such as "C:\php", "C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.3", "C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3....", etc. The extension directory will tell you which one of these php folders ZF will "reference" when it is looking for its library. For example, if your extension directory says "c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.4.3/ext/", you want to focus on "c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.4.3"
Go back to your PATH and a) add the string for this php version and b) remove all the other references to the other php folders
Now that you know your running and primary php and apache folders, shutdown (do not restart), shut down your computer and boot back up (restart does not always let the PATH completely reset.
Go to BOTH php.ini files at a) "C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.x.y\bin" and "C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.3" and find the include_path variable for Windows
Replace the default line, which looks like:
;include_path = ".;c:\php\includes;"
with
include_path = ".;c:\php\includes;C:\wamp\www\ZendFramework\library"
ON BOTH FILES just as Tjorriemorrie notes.
Restart All Services by clicking the wamp icon and selecting said option
At this point my zf tool was working. But, just to be safe, shut down and bootup
Smile and grab a beer!
I have a PHP project in NetBeans with remote files (over sftp). When I create, modify anything these changes happening both locally and on my web server. However when I'm trying to delete a file or a folder it gets erased only locally. What could be the problem?
Permissions seems to be ok, all files belong to the user I'm using to access the server.
I'm using Netbeans 6.9.1, default configuration, all updates installed.
Netbeans does not have a synchronization function. It is limited to downloading and uploading files. What you can do is to use some external tool, for example WinSCP is capable of synchronizing local and remote directories.
I read what you wrote... but I think it could be a permissions problem.
I also use NetBeans and when I delete a file from the project window it first erase it locally and then syncs with my server.
I login through sftp (using vsftp) as root, which is a bad thing, but you could try this too to be sure if it's a permission issue.
You mistakenly turned off the settings. Please follow these steps:
Right click on the project name
Select properties
From the list of the left select 'Run configuration'
On the left almost down, look for the setting 'Upload files:'
Make sure you set that to 'On Save'
All the best man
In netbeans 6.8 under Services -> Servers I'm able to add specific kind of servers. is it possible to add more servers to the list? and if so how? i want to be able to add red5 server to the list. i don't even mind learning to write netbeans plugins if this is what i need to resolve the issue.
thanks
There seems to be no easy way around this but I found a workaround that works for only me.
Here is it:
CODE
I created a file named k.bat and saved this code in it
copy "C:\location_to_my_project\dist\kilonsele.jar" "C:\location_to_red5\WEB-INF\lib\kilonsele.jar"
wrapper.exe -p "C:\Program Files (x86)\Red5\conf\wrapper.conf"
startred5-nt.bat
So after clicking compile in netbeans, I save time by just hitting the k.bat. I have created a shortcut to it on my taskbar.
EXPLICATIONS
line 1 copies the compiled jar to my red5 directory
line 2 shuts down red5
line 3 starts it.
DISCUSSION
Why don't I just put stopred5-nt.bat on line 2 ?
Well I figured out that while red5 is waiting to shutdown, the third line runs in the background. So when shutdown it complete, there turns out there is no more thing to do so the execution stops.
There is also this sweet thing I added, since I like human readable errors. I created a method that saves text to file in my project. I only need to do something like this:
try {
} except {
write2file("I can't connect to DB");
}
That saves the file to my red5 directory so I just created a shortcut to it in my taskbar also.
So it's fun and fast working with red5.
Currently there is no way to add red5 to the servers list in tomcat.
This does not impact the developer in any way besides that he will need to manually start red5 server and manually deploy the compiled application webapps directory of red5.
red5 projects can be loaded using a free-from project.
