Thank You In Advance..

To move from 10.5.x to 10.6.x you have to buy Snow Leopard.

You are right about having to upgrade to Snow. I'm now on Snow and I have iPad SDK installed (iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 3). Please note that you also need to be registered to the iPhone Developer Program to be able to download the 3.2 beta.
Amazon used to sell it for a lower price, 24 USD I think, but it's now also at 29 USD.

Programming for iOS with older Xcode

I'm pretty new to coding for iOS and i have a question about setting up my development components.
I have MacBook Air with 10.5.8 Leopard on it. So we question is: will I have no problems writing apps having iPhone SDK 3.1.3 with XCode 3.1.4 for Leopard (10.5.7)? Will the created app work on all iphone versions? There is a possibility to upgrade to mountain lion and use newest xcode, but is it worth it ? Considering that I firstly have to upgrade to snow leopard and then to mountain lion.
Thank you for your answers in advance.
If you want to send them to the app Store, the apps have to be compiled with the latest iOS (right now iOS6), so you can't compile them with xcode 3.1.4.
You need lion to download xcode 4.5 that includes the iOS 6 sdk
It looks like the configuration of your MAC Machine is not compatible for latest Mountain Lion OS. Even if it supports Lion OS, that itself will be a great deal.
Anyways, Using leopard, you can develop applications only upto iOS ver 3.2. So you would not be able to submit your applications to App Store untill you compile it with latest SDK.
For this you need atleast Lion OS (Better if you upgrade your hardware compatible with Mountain Lion). So that you can install latest XCode (Currently Ver 4.5). It will allow you to develop fully featured iOS application with latest features as well as upload them to Apple App Store.
Hope it helps. Let me know if anything else required.

Are Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3 compatible with Snow Leopard?

Currently I am using Xcode 3 and iOS SDK 4.2 on Snow Leopard. I am planning to download and install Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3.
I would like to know if Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3 are compatible with Snow Leopard.
Yes..You will have separate .dmg available for download when you visit iOS developer center X-Code download link.
Please do note that the X-Code 4.2 will have iOS 5 simulator and library only. If you want lower version simulator and library with X-Code just goto X.Code->Prefrences-> Downloads Tab. In downloads tab you'll have two tabs:
1) Components - Here you will have option to download iOS 4.3 simulator(~600 Mb), iOS 4.0-4.1(~670 MB) Device debugging support, iOS 3.0-3.2.2(686.3 MB) Device debugging support.
2) Documentation- Yoy will have option to download iOS 5.0,XCode 4.2 Developer libaray,Mac OSX 10.7 Core Library.
Install the components which ever you need and there you go..
Hope that helps.
There's a specific version of Xcode 4.2 (and likely earlier versions) that can be used on Snow Leopard. That's the version I use on my iMac. Note that you can use 4.2 w/iOS5 SDK and still deploy on older devices (and even download the 4.3 simulator) in case you cannot find Xcode 4.
However you cannot use (download) the one from the AppStore which is Lion-specific. To find the Snow Leopard specific version log into Apple's developers portal and you'll see separate links for SL and Lion.
Yes, it's compatible. Download the XCode 4.2 .dmg from the iOS dev program portal, which includes the iOS 5.0 SDK.
http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/download.action?path=/Developer_Tools/xcode_4.2_with_ios_5_sdk/xcode_4.2_and_ios_5_sdk_for_snow_leopard.dmg
Yes, but only if you have the correct download from Apple.
There are currently 2 separate dmg downloads for the SDK and Xcode installer from the enrolled Developer web site, one for Lion and one for Snow Leopard. The download for Lion is only compatible with Lion. The download for Snow Leopard is only compatible with Snow Leopard. The installer from the App store might be for Lion only, so you may have to sign up for the developer program to get the other installer.
Apple usually removes (or hides) downloads for previous versions of the SDK, so if you didn't download the correct installer dmg (with the SDK for iOS 4.x) for the Mac OS of interest in time, you won't have a compatible installer.

Developing for an ipod touch 4g

I am a software engineering student and i signed up for an embedded apple development class
I have Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.3 and i have an ipod touch 4g
I understand that the 4g runs ios sdk 4.1 and i am aware to use certain features i would need that sdk. In addition, i would need atleast Mac OS X Leopard 10.6.2 to use ios sdk 4.1
At this time i cannot upgrade the OS.
Can i still download an older IOS sdk, and develop for the ipod touch 4g?
what would be the latest sdk i could use? I just need something to get me through the class!
Thank you
You might be able to create an Ad Hoc distribution build using the old 3.1.3 SDK for Leopard, and then install the app on a 4th gen iPod Touch using the latest iTunes plus your Ad Hoc provision profile.
the latest sdk that runs with leopard would be 3.1.3. If you install that one (http://developer.apple.com/ios/download.action?path=/iphone/iphone_sdk_3.1.3__final/iphone_sdk_3.1.3_with_xcode_3.1.4__leopard__9m2809a.dmg) you probably run into problems when installing the app on the phone because the old organizer does not work with newer devices. Since the 4g ipod may not be downgraded either, you're only (free, besides upgrading to snow leopard) option would be to compile the app, then ask a friend with snow leopard to install it on your ipod. Maybe your university will offer some macs to use for that, since not everyone has a mac?

How do I download the SDK for iPhone for Leopard?

I have a Mac with Leopard installed (not Snow Leopard). I'm trying to start playing around with iPhone development, so I want to download XCode and the iPhone SDK. I found a version of XCode on Apple's site which runs on Leopard, but it doesn't have the iPhone SDK bundled with it, and I can't find the iPhone SDK anywhere except bundled with the latest version of XCode (and it won't run on Leopard, just Snow Leopard).
Where can I get a copy of the iPhone SDK for Leopard?
http://chris-fletcher.com/2010/08/28/howto-install-iphone-sdk-2-0-3-1-for-xcode-3-2/
Choose [iPhone SDK 3.1.3 with Xcode 3.1.4 – Leopard].
(I had the same problem.. an old PPC with Mac OS X 10.5 that can't be upgraded to 10.6.2)
This will definitely let you write simple and useful iPhone apps, although I'm not sure about App Store acceptance. Good for 'hello world' and personal stuff, though.
You're out of luck. Current SDK is Snow Leopard only.
Edit: Listen to Eiko. 10.5 is no longer supported.

iPhone SDK 4 available only for Mac OS X Snow Leopard?

I am about to download SDK 4 for iPhone development but on their website the download is for Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The current version on my Mac is Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8... Won't I be able to install the SDK without upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard?
Specifically, Xcode 3.2.3 with iPhone SDK (iOS4) is a Snow Leopard install only, as far as I see.
I think that iOS4 is bringing a lot more feature parity between itself and snow leopard. So I don't think apple will be releasing this download for leopard any time soon. Though check the developer forums to make sure.
Sadly though you may need to upgrade if you want to continue to develop for iOS4.
