I have created an iPhone application with using the view based template; the problem is I want to load a table view on the click of button. I have tried this:
initWithNibName:#"xibfile" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]...
but table view is not loading, what should I do?
Assuming you are using a navigation controller, in the code related to the action associated to your button, do something like
YourTableViewController *yourTableViewController = [[YourTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"YourTableViewController" bundle:nil];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:yourTableViewController animated:YES];
[yourTableViewController release];
Otherwise, you may present your table view controller as a modal view.
If you're asking how to load a view controller, the pattern looks something like this:
MyViewController* myViewController = [[MyViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"MyView" bundle:nil];
If you're not using or directly subclassing UITableViewController I'm assuming that your UITableView is an ivar of your UIViewController subclass.
If this is the case you'll need to assign your UIViewController subclass to be the UITableView's delegate and set your UIViewController to conform to the UITableViewDelegate protocol. Also you'll need to create a datasource object that conforms to the UITableViewDataSource protocol. Then set the UITableView's data source to be that UITableViewDataSource object.
So in your header file you'll have:
#class SomeDataSource;
#interface{
UITableView *tableView;
SomeDataSource *dataSource;
}
Then in your implementation block, probably in viewDidLoad, you should include:
tableView.delegate = self;
tableView.dataSource = dataSource;

I have one UIViewController without NIB file. Now i have one my customized UIView. I want to make UIViewController's view inherit from my customized UIView, is it possible ? I know that if I have XIB file than I can make Custom Class from there but without XIB can it be done?
Thanks in Advance
If you are using a UIViewController subclass, and don't want to use a nib file, then override the loadView method in your subclass:
#implementation MyViewController
- (void)loadView {
self.view = [[MyView alloc] init];
// additional view setup here
}
If you are just using a generic UIViewController (not a subclass), then you might be able to just assign to the view controller's view property, like this:
vc.view = [[MyView alloc] init];
But I'm not sure if that works properly outside of loadView. I haven't seen any documentation that says it is or is not allowed.
Replace your view controller's view like this:
// ViewController.m, in viewDidLoad
self.view = [[MyCustomView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds];
A more conventional alternative is to fill the default view with the custom subview, like this:
MyCustomView *myCustomView = [[MyCustomView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds];
[self.view addSubview:myCustomView];
I think you need to load a custom view programmatically, for that you need to override the loadView method of your view controller.
-(void)loadView
{
[super loadView];
CustomView *view = [[CustomView alloc]initWithFrame:self.view.bouds];
[self.view addSubview:view];
}
Replace this in your .h file
#interface ViewController : UIViewController
with
#interface ViewController : Customized View Controller
I have application
I want a button to open another screen with done button
after click this button a data be transfered from the current screen to the previous one
like opening options screen , how to let the main view know the changes be done on this subview
Best regards
You can use properties for this.
Create a property in the second class: .h file
#interface DetailViewController : UIViewController {
NSString *head;
}
#property(nonatomic,retain)NSString *head;
#end
in .m file
#synthesize head;
Now in your firstviewcontroller or first class
if (dt==nil) {
DetailViewController *d = [[DetailViewController alloc]initWithNibName:#"Detailview" bundle:nil];
self.dt = d;
[d release];
}
dt.head=itemsum;
[self.navigationController pushViewController:self.dt animated:YES];
Suppose you have to pass NSString to other class then declare one Nsstring in second class and make accessor method for nsstring and then call this code from first view controller
yournextviewcontroller *viewcontroller = [[yournextviewcontroller alloc] initWithNibName:#"yournextviewcontroller" bundle:nil];
viewcontroller.Stringname = name;
[self.navigationController viewcontroller:evernotebook animated:YES];
You can take UIView as IBOutlet in the same ViewController. Show that view with click on Button like
IBOutlet UIView *yourAnotherScreenView; //Bind this to your view in XIB file.
[self.view addSubView:yourAnotherScreenView];
[self.view bringSubViewtoFront:yourAnotherScreenView];
Take Done button on the view and wireup the action event in the same controller and do the necessary stuff as required.
Use the simple delegate concept of Objective-C .
Check very simple answers in the below post for using delegate in Objective-C .
How do I set up a simple delegate to communicate between two view controllers?
I have a UITableView in a UINavigationController. On the navigation bar I have a button called add. When this button is pressed it presents a UIPopoverController, where user can input data to be added as a new row/cell in the UITableView. My issue is how can I add a new cell to the UITableView from the UIPopover? Do I pass in the array data to the UIPopOver root controller?
There are two solutions to this that I'm aware of. One would be to send a notification from the popover to the root controller and apply the necessary code to update the tableView in the handleNotification method.
The other, one that I personally use, is to set up a delegate protocol for the popover. You'll have to set it up something like this:
#protocol PopoverDelegate
- (void)addNewCell; // you can add any information you need to pass onto this if necessary such as addNewCellWithName:(NSString *)name, etc.
#end
#interface MyPopoverViewController..... {
id <PopoverDelegate> delegate;
// the rest of your interface code;
}
#property (nonatomic, retain) id delegate;
// any other methods or properties;
#end
Then in your root view controller header file, you need to add the delegate
#interface RootViewController .... <PopoverDelegate> {
Then in your root view controller implementation file, assign the popover delegate when you instantiate it. For example:
MyPopoverViewController *vc = [[MyViewController alloc] init];
vc.delegate = self; // this is where you set your protocol delegate
myPopover = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:vc];
myPopover.delegate = self;
[vc release];
Finally, you'll add your protocol method somewhere in the code
- (void)addNewCell {
// do what you want with the tableView from here
}
Sorry that's a bit long. I just wanted to make sure I was thorough. Hope it helps
I have created a UITabBarController in my app delegate.
where each tab bar item holds a different UINavigationController that loads a custom UIViewController with a NIB (using -pushViewController:).
Inside one of the navigation controller, I load a custom UIView class with a custom NIB also.
This view is loaded multiple times inside the UIViewController.
The custom UIView has a UIButton, that on the event of touching it, I want to push a new UIViewController on the stack.
Problem is that I 'lost' the UINavigationController that holds the UIViewController.
I know I should use delegates, but haven't figured out who should which class should be the delegate.
Thanks in advance!
Neither .navigationController or .tabBarController will be available for a UIView or UIViewController that's been created but not pushed onto a stack
Either create a property on your View (or ViewController) class that is a UIViewController that is provided optionally after initialization or you could add a third argument to initWithNibName:bundle:
#interface CustomViewController : UIViewController
{
UIViewController *owner;
}
#property (nonatomic, assign) UIViewController* owner;
#end
Then in the owner ViewController:
CustomViewController *cvc = [[CustomViewController alloc] initWithNibNamed:nil bundle:nil];
cvc.owner = self;
It's too bad .parentViewController is read-only, this would be the sensible place for this.
You can get this using UIApplication class. Using this class you can find which viewController is placed at first. Here is the solution link for your problem.
As the title says none of my tableview controller methods are being called.
The steps I went through to create my table view are as follows.
1) I created a new file based on UITableViewController and selected the create with xib option. I Named my file myStuffViewController.
2) I have a rootview controller which is a UIViewController. In this view I have a navigation controller that I want to push my tableview controller onto at a certain point.
3) I setup my tableview and nav controller like so
mystuff = [[MyStuffViewController alloc]initWithNibName:#"MyStuffViewController"bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]];
accountView = [[AccountView alloc] initWithNibName:#"Login" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]];
accountViewNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc] init];
accountViewNavController.delegate = self;
NSArray *ar= [NSArray arrayWithObjects:accountView,mystuff, nil];
[accountViewNavController setViewControllers:ar animated:NO];
[accountViewNavController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:NO];
accountView.title=#"Login";
4) Then when a user pushes a button I want to push the table view controller onto the stack like this.
[accountViewNavController pushViewController:mystuff animated:YES];
I've even tried calling [self.tableView reloadData] but none of the methods get called.
Could somebody propose why my table view methods are not being called?
EDIT 1
Just so I'm being as clear as I can be here is what my header file looks like. To be it doesnt seems like I'm missing anything.
#interface MyStuffViewController : UITableViewController<UITableViewDataSource,UITableViewDelegate> {
RemixView *remixView;
NSMutableArray *remixListArray;
TBXML*tbxml;
}
#property(nonatomic,retain)NSMutableArray *remixListArray;
#property(nonatomic,retain)RemixView *remixView;
#property(nonatomic ,retain)TBXML *tbxml;
-(void)fetchRemixList:(NSString *)uid key:(NSString *)k1;
- (void)configureCell:(UITableViewCell *)cell atIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath;
#end
Check
You declare in the .h file that you implement the two table view delegates UITableViewDelegate & UITableViewDatasource
In the NIB make sure you link to your delegate in file owner OR if you have created the TableView programmatically make sure you set the delegate ivar also.
Then see if the delegate methods start getting called
