UITableView manual scrolling to the last row - iphone

I have a table view controller which doesn't let me manually scroll to the last row. It automatically scrolls slightly up so I could never select the last 2-3 rows. Anyone experienced this problem? Should I set a minimum height for the table view to solve this? If so how?

Are you able to scroll using touches to the last row? It may be a contentSize issue.

The first answer in the following post helped me fix this issue -
-[UITableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:] scrolls, but goes back to 1st row
The initial CGSize for the UiTableView was set at a higher value (beyond the view bounds) and that was the issue. I upvoted that answer. Thanks.

Likely your tableView frame is too big and extends off the screen. This will prevent the bottom cells from being able to scroll up to the screen because they've reached the bottom of the tableView.
You will have to determine the visible area on your screen. But the code should look something like this:
self.tableView.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320, 324);
Here's the meanings of the CGRectMake values: (X, Y, Width, Height)

Use this
tableView = [[UITableView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,50,320,320)style:UITableViewStylePlain];
Put whatever height as you want.

The easiest way is to set this [statusMessagesTableView setContentInset:UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 80, 0)];

Cannot change height of UITableView

In the Apple iPhone Clock App, when a user adds a new alarm a modal view pops up. I am trying to create a UI similar to that.
I currently have a UITableViewController as the root view controller of a UINavigationController.
I also have a UIDatePicker added as a subview to the UINavigationController:
[self.navigationController.view addSubview:mydatePicker];
However, I have about 10+ rows in my UITableview (that of the UITableViewController) and as soon as I added the UIDatePicker I cannot scroll to view all the cells.
I realized that the UITableView size is the same size as it was before I added the UIDatePicker, and therefore I would need to change its size in order to be able to scroll to see all the table cells.
I have tried several things in order to change its size, all to no avail. In the code below I arbitrarily chose 50 for the new height.
First, tried changing the bounds height:
CGRect bounds = [self.tableView bounds];
[self.tableView setBounds:CGRectMake(bounds.origin.x,
bounds.origin.y,
bounds.size.width,
50)];
Then tried to change the frame height:
CGRect tvframe = [self.tableView frame];
[self.tableView setFrame:CGRectMake(tvframe.origin.x,
tvframe.origin.y,
tvframe.size.width,
50)];
Then after googling some more i tried changing the contentSize height:
CGSize thesize = self.tableView.contentSize;
thesize.height = 50;
self.tableView.contentSize = thesize;
None of these appeared to have any effect on the size of the UITableView. I still could not scroll to see all the cells.
I later tried some of the same methods as above but on the UINavigationController instead of the UITableView. I didn't have much luck with this either.
As a last resort, I tried to change the size of the UITableView in the Storyboard editor. I could not figure this out either.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
From the UITableViewController class reference, it:
creates an unconfigured UITableView object with the correct dimensions
and autoresize mask
And a quote from the Table View Programming Guide for iOS which specifically addresses this behavior:
Note: You should use a UIViewController subclass rather than a
subclass of UITableViewController to manage a table view if the view
to be managed is composed of multiple subviews, only one of which is a
table view. The default behavior of the UITableViewController class is
to make the table view fill the screen between the navigation bar and
the tab bar (if either are present).
If you don't want the table view controller setting the size of your tableView, then you need to use a UIViewController instead. See the link that I posted above to the Table View Programming Guide for iOS for other things to consider when going this route.
I had same problem as you mentioned.
I was unable to change the height of tableView of UITableViewController. I tried changing frame and centers of self.view and self.tableview. But failed.
Then I solved it by a trick, changing tableview's contentInset.
self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 44.0f, 0); // here you can replace 44.0f with your height
You need to make the UITableView a subview of your main view in order to change its size reliably.
The frame is the correct value to alter once you have made this change.
I dont know what is your real Problem . but for change hight of your UITableView and will Display all rows in UITableView write following code.
self.tblView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 50);
please try it.
Your are taking uitableview controller, in place of that use uiviewcontroller in that add the uitabelview. Now you can the the size of uitableview.

UITableView frame change animation issue

I've googled about this problem a lot but there seems to be no answer. So I'm hoping some of you may know how to deal with this. I have a view controller that has a tableview, when I change the view frame with animation, everything goes well, except one particular case, when tableview has more items than it can fit to screen, and only when the tableview is scrolled to bottom. Then if I shrink the view height, my view animates correctly, but the tableview somehow jumps up a bit and only then animates to the bottom.
If I shrink the view, but tableview isn't scrolled to bottom (even if I can see the last cell, lets say a bit more than half of it) it does animate correctly.
I've tried couple of things, like setting autoresizing masks on and off and also animate from current state or something like that, but that didn't help :/
So any suggestions what could be the problem?
EDIT:
Code that i use to change frame
[UIView animateWithDuration:0.5
delay:0.0
options: UIViewAnimationCurveEaseOut
animations:^{
[_contView setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 420)];
}
completion:^(BOOL finished){
}];
I fought this same bug for awhile before realizing I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it was happening...until I found a very detailed explanation and solution.
Full write-up can be found here:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/cocoa-dev/2012/Apr/msg00341.html
Quick solution is to change contentInset instead of the table view frame. Just add the height of whatever you are showing (ie a keyboard or ad banner view) to the contentInset.bottom property. The scrolling area will be increased to account for the required resize.
In this example, I was showing an ad banner view on top of my tableview:
UIEdgeInsets insets = myTable.contentInset;
insets.bottom += 50; // 50px is the height of the ad banner view
myTable.contentInset = insets;
I used to have a similar problem and I implemented this workaround (Disclaimer: this is a hack to a currently-unresolved iOS bug):
// check if the table view is scrolled to the bottom
if (tableView.contentOffset.y + tableView.frame.size.height == tableView.contentSize.height) {
// if it is, shift the table view contents up one pixel
[tableView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(tableView.contentOffset.x, tableView.contentOffset.y - 1) animated:NO];
}
// call the animation block afterwards here
It's a hack, though not noticeable to the user since it's just a 1 pixel motion. UITableView has a few bugs (reported to Apple already, but not yet resolved) when it comes to animations from a scrolled-to-bottom position.
You should use autoresizing from xib which is right corner of xcode ... I think this may help you.
Try to add footer view to your table with non-zero height.

TableView Positioning and Resizing

what i am trying to make is a view which also has a tableview inside, the table view is to be positioned half the way down the page. At the top of the page there are going to be Images and labels etc, the main issue is getting the tableview at the bottom of the page and also being able to insert data into the table using a plist. I have tried many different methods in resizing and the position of tableViews but of yet nothing has worked. If you have any advice or a tutorial please let me know, thanks
You can try to put your images and labels at top of page into the header view of your tableview. See tableview.tableHeaderView property.
set the position programmatically
tableView=[[UITableView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(X, Y, Width, Height)];
You can set the position also height and width.

UITableView not scrolling to the bottom

I have a UITableView (on a UIViewController) on which I want to ad an iAd banner on the top, but below a toolBar I already have on the top. I'm trying to shift the the tableView (in reference to the view) so I can locate the banner in the space left blank.
To check it ou, I create an action in which I shift the tableView frame:
-(IBAction)iAdAction:(id)sender{
self.tableViewConc.frame=CGRectMake(0, 94, 320, 367);}
where 94 is the summ of 44 from the toolbar and the 50 from the banner.
The action works correctly but then, I cannot scroll to the bottom of the tableView, when I try it, it bounces back. I've tried to change the height of the tableView in the same action ( 430 instead of 367, for instance) but it doesn't work. I've also tried it on IB, but it doesn't work either.
I feel that I'm missing something but I cannot remember what.
Any help?
Thanks in advance!
Not being able to scroll to the bottom of the tableview is usually a symptom of its height being too large. (i.e. it's cut off at the bottom)
Don't compute the height you need and put those numbers in your code. Just find out what it should be from the view hierarchy. For example, you might compute the height of your table view with CGRectGetHeight(self.view.bounds) - CGRectGetMaxY(self.iAdView), and the view's y origin with CGRectGetMaxY(self.iAdView) assuming that the iAd view and your table view are both subviews of self.view. Or, even better, just use autoresize masks or autolayout to keep the table view the right size.
You can try
self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 44, 0);
I just had this embarrassing scenario where my UITableView would "bounce" but it wouldn't scroll to the bottom. For ME, the problem was that I was dynamically setting the row heights, and my very last cell was getting calculated with a cell height of -115 (yes, negative). Once I fixed that to return a positive number, my scrolling worked just fine.
Even we can achieve the same in storyboard.
Select tableView --> from the storyboard control click on 'add Missing constraints'. That will add the constraint to tableView and View.
That helped me to resolve this issue. Screenshot_Link
Check the number of the row that you can't see.
After in your viewDidLoad, add this method:
myTableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsets(top: 0,left: 0,bottom: yourCellHeight * rowHeight,right: 0)
I hope I have been helpful

UIScrollView not showing scroll indicator

I have a UIScrollView which I create and size dynamically using...
scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width , length);
I then add subviews to the UIScrollView.
I do have scrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = YES;
When scrolling the scroll indicator never appears.
Even if I call [scrollView flashScrollIndicators] nothing happens.
Ideas?
Had the same problem and couldn't find the cause. The last answer gave the final hint: whenever I added new subviews I first removed all existing subviews from the scrollview (and apparently also the scroll indicators).
After checking in my loop, if the subview really was of the kind I wanted to be removed the scroll indicators showed up:
for (NSObject * subview in [[[scrollView subviews] copy] autorelease]) {
if ([subview isKindOfClass:[MySubView class]]) {
[(MySubView*)subview removeFromSuperview];
}
}
Update: changed code to Nikolai's suggestion
When I've dealt with this before, in my implementation of a grid, I would occasionally get some cells over the top of the scroll indicator. To fix this I am now inserting subviews at index 0 rather than adding them, which adds them to the top. So try something like this:
[scrollview insertSubview:subview atIndex:0];
For me, the horizontal indicator had mysteriously disappeared in my app on iOS 7. Later found out that for some strange reason, I had to enable both Shows Horizontal Indicator and Shows Vertical Indicator to make the horizontal one show up. If I set it to not show the vertical indicator, it would also not show horizontal indicator.
I fix this by adding this code after add new subview:
self.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = NO;
self.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = YES;
It will also happen (at least in the case of a UITableView) if the contentSize is too small for the table view to scroll. If you have enabled bouncing, then the tableview does not actually scroll and does not display the indicators therefore. Try fitting more content inside.
It can happen also if the parent of the scrollview is smaller horizontally than the scroll view itself :
The scroll bar is stuck to the right side of the ScrollView / TableView and this right side is not visible due to the parent bounds ( with a clipToBounds hidding it for instance).
I've seen this issue so I share it in case it can help.
Just check the width of your ScrollView's frame not to be bigger than the width of its parent view frame.
Two conditions,
If you are using a storyboard
If you are using a UITableView inside a UIViewController
Then, you should check your indicator insets are set to 0 (or any other number that is relevant to your autolayout):
Noticed this when the UIScrollView was a 48 px tall horizontal band, scrollable horizontally. Maybe Cocoa decides the area is too small for a scroll indicator...
