How to programmatically send SMS on the iPhone?
I wanted to design an app that would send SMS messages to your contacts from within the app in the background. However, I cannot seem to find any tutorials on it and the Apple Docs arent anyhelp. I have also read somewhere that it is outright impossible.
But if so, how does the app, iDistress manage to do it? It send text messages from preselected contacts with a custom message : http://www.buzapp.com/idistress.html
Check out the screencast.
Thanks.

Are you a registered Apple Developer? If so, you can use the 4.0 framework to show the composer window and set some of the values programatically inside of your app, without having to ever exit the app. However, you will have to wait until the new iPhone and OS4.0 comes out, roughly about June/July, to release the application.
Remember: you are not allowed to discuss details of iPhone OS 4.0 anywhere else than Apple's official Developer Forums, which you need to be a registered Apple Developer to access.

Direct access to the SMS and Email features aren't available in the official SDK. iDistress sends a request to a web service that they host (which sends out emails and text messages from their server)

I've been looking for how to do this and was told it couldn't be done. Then today, I try this new app called Highlight, and sure enough, it does it. When you sign up, you pick contacts from your list and then the app goes straight to SMS and pastes in its own text as an invite message. What do they know that we don't know?

read iphone sms messages?
I have following question related to get sms.
I want to get All SMS Text, sender number, date.
How can i send sms through my app?
Afterward i want to upload app on app store, so will apple allow me to upload app for doing above tasks?
Kindly help me on these issues and also share with me helping materiel or tutorial relevant to this tasks. Thanks in Advance :).
Not possible.
Check this
For SMS sending through application allowed but for accessing inbox for sms/email not allowed.
As of iOS 4, you can't get access to SMS data for reading, as there are serious privacy concerns.
And Apple wouldn't allow an app onto the store that does this.
Here's a related question & answer with more detail.
It is possible if you have a jailbroken device.
You may use jailcoder to fake code signing and then move your app to /Applications folder.
This way you can access to any database in your iOS device jailbroken.
Obviously Apple deny you app but not in Cydia.

Call history, SMS history, Email history in iOS [duplicate]

iPhone call log / history

I have one requirement to fetch all the call logs, SMS logs and Email logs in iOS. So, if anyone have any idea about how to fetch call or sms or email logs (history) in iOS, please help me or suggest me the solution or whether it is feasible or not.
But one app is also available in app store.
App name is calLog.
Some website like "Accessing iPhone Call History" also says, it's possible, how's it true?
Thanks in advance to all. :)
No, its not possible to fetch Call/SMS/Email logs in iOS.
You can do this in jailbroken device.
http://iosstuff.wordpress.com/2011/08/19/accessing-iphone-call-history/ shows you how to access the call history. It is possible but Apple may not accept your App into their Store if they discover it. Sometimes Apps slip thru the cracks and get published even if they are against Apple's guidelines. Remember Tether? It was available for a day before Apple pulled it. Path was uploading your contacts before getting caught and then they updated their App.
its not possible to fetch the call or sms history in iOS device..but it is possible in older iOS version by using call_history.db file which contains all call history of iOS device
Hi,friends.
Do you have backup files in your PC?
If you have installed iTunes on your computer, then you can run it and sync it with your iPhone, after that, all of your iphone data can be backed-up in your iTunes. If you want to fetch all of them, then you jsut need to open the folders of the targeted files containing your messages ,contacts, call logs, and then drag them to your computer! Done!.
If you can not find those messages or call logs or contacts you want, that maybe results from these reasons: you did not backed up successfully or those information lost because of some physical problem. Then you can have a try on some recovery software to search the lost data. If you install the recovery program onto your PC ,you can preview all of your phone data, including the deleted ones!.
Hope this method help you all !
Call log is possible since this app does that: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/navita-t.e.m.-personal/id590228620?mt=8 application does that. The question is, how?
Btw, SMS log and Email history I don't think it's possible.

iMessage inside your App (iOS5)

I am developing an app for iOS 4 but now with iOS 5 I was wondering new possibilities.
Do you know if is possible to include iMessage inside the app (including a framework or something)? Or send a message to another phone via iMessage inside your app? Like the way we send mails inside ours apps.
Thanks in advance!
The MessageUI framework added text in 4.2 if i remember correctly. I don't see why this wouldn't be using iMessage in 5.0.
You'll want to us MFMessageComposeViewController from the MessageUI.framework. You can find all the methods on this page of apples developer docs however you'll need to be logged in with a registered developer account as it could contain pre release NDA stuffs.
It may not send iMessages instead of texts/sms' just yet (I say this as I haven't looked) but it should do in the future?
Hope this helps.

Need to open the application when SMS arrives and spell the arrived SMS in iPhone

Is there is any possibility for an application to open immediately when an SMS arrives and spell this SMS?
If so, how to do this app i.e., how to open an application whenever SMS arrives?
No chance. Apple does not provide a documented API for SMS access and will reject such an app, even if you managed to implement it in the way you intend.
No, there is no way to do this on iOS device due to platform restrictions.
You can only show SMS-sending dialog, but no more. That's actual for latest iOS 4.3.3.

Is it possible to make your uploaded iphone application auto-update? [duplicate]

Can I force an iPhone user to upgrade an application?

I am about to upload my Iphone application to the apple store, however I intend to release more versions in the near future. Is there anyway to make my application auto update once I upload a new version to the apple store?. That is as I am about to upload version 1.0, once i upload version 1.x, can the user be notified of this or can the application be auto-updated?. Can anyone point me in the right direction?. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

No, this functionality is not available on the iPhone. The AppStore provides updates through the store only, and Cydia provides updates through Cydia only.
The direction i've seen many applications take is at start, check an XML file that you host for information on newer versions, and typically display a message to the user (preferably in a news ticker or non-obstructive manor) about a new version being released, and why they should upgrade.
You can't auto-update, however as far as I'm aware nothing prevents you from notifying the user that a new version is available, within your app. For example you could contact a web server to find out what the latest version is, and compare that to a build number in your app bundle, then display an appropriate alert/notification to the user. Or, you could get fancy and use the 3.0 push notifications for this.
In theory the appstore app/itunes will do this anyway, but it's clear that a lot of users don't see that.
Another thing you can do using the method I outlined (that the app store won't do) is tell the users that a new version is available, what it does, and that it's waiting for apple.
Even simpler is just to embed an 'announcements' channel in your app somewhere. That lets you talk to your users without waiting for apple - you can tell them there is a new version on the way, etc. I do this with an app I'm beta testing - a button on the main screen shows announcements, which I pull from my server.
Maybe if enough app developers did this, apple would start turning the approvals around quicker. Or change the legalese to prevent it [assuming it doesn't already] :-)
This is functionality provided by the app store. When you submit new versions, after apple has approved them, they will become available through the app store as updates to users that already have the app installed.
User will see new available updates to apps he owns in iTunes. User can then choose to get the update.
I'm not sure about updates via iPhone but if you pay for data downloads you would prefer to download apps/updates over iTunes on your Mac and then sync to iPhone. It's cheaper that way.
My guess is automatic version updating is intentionally left out. Think about it: what kind of strain will they have on their server if everyone on the planet with an iPhone downloaded An update to Fruit Ninja at the same time? I think their passive notification to the users via the red circle and white number allows them to spread out/stagger the update downloads and reduce server load.
