how make a selection glow and then off in uitableviewcell - iphone

hi i have a problem with the selection when I select a row in uitableviewcell it selects and turns to blue with out making any animation i mean normally when a row in table is selected it turns into blue and go off immediately like an animation. How to achieve that? Not deslecting a row....it is like highlight the cell and go off when cell is selected by user...Can any one help please....

From the Table View Programming Guide, Responding to Selections:
In your tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: method add the following:
[tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:NO];
"Selecting" does the blue-highlight animation, "deselecting" flashes it back to normal color. By adding a deselection as soon as it's selected you get the effect of flashing it with color.
If you want to avoid the whole coloring thing, you can use UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone as your cell style.

iOS- TableViewCell expand/collapse

i want to create a a TableView with expand/collapse cells, and i thought 2 ways to achieve that:
Play with the heightForRowAtIndexPath
Create 2 different cell, with different identifier, and each time load the right one.
I want the cell to expand/collapse with animation, and the user can expand more then one cell.
Which one is better?
Thanks in advance!
Depends on your cell, before and after collapsing, and whether you want to animate it or not.
Options:
If the contents are the same, or with some small additions, and you wanna animate it. Use this option.
If the contents changes dramatically, go with this option. And I'm not sure if animation in this case is easy.
Good luck, need more help, let me know! ;D
I think you want this: https://github.com/seletz/CocoaTreeViewExample
I have made a expandable/collapsable treeview using the same code that is looking like this in my application now:
I was after something similar, I wanted to be able to show and hide contextMenu for a table view cell. So I ended up using just one cell for both expanded and collapsed state, and I had a "context menu subview" (that's what I wanted for the expanded look) and updated it's frame for the animation.
The trick is that when you want to expand/collapse you cell with a nice animation you'd better use beginUpdates and endUpdates instead of reloadData or reloadRowsAtIndexPaths:withRowAnimation: methods. Something like that:
// setContextMenuHidden:animated: updates frame and alpha for the context menu
// view (which is a subview of cell content view)
[cell setContextMenuHidden:NO animated:YES];
[self.tableView beginUpdates];
[self.tableView endUpdates];

how to center uitableview selection with indexpath value

I am saving the indexPath selection from a subview and passing it to the parent view with delegates. When I got back to my subview from my main view I pass the indexPath back to it and show the user which cell they previously selected with a tick in the accessory view of the tableviewcell.
One problem being if the user has selected a cell out of a fairly big list its hard to find the cell they selected again incase they wanted to change it (being that they made a mistake)
I would like to know if their is a way to use indexPath or something similar to center the previously selected cell of the uitableview to the center of the screen?
UPDATE::
Here is a graphical view of what I am trying to achive to make it abit more understandable..
step one : select cell then go to subview and select the cell (value) you want to pass back to main view (save indexPath of selected cell)
step two: user either wants to change his selection or made a mistake and was ment to select the cell below the one they chose... repeat previous steps but display previously selected cell in the center of the view..
Have you tried the following function
[tableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath: atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionMiddle animated:YES]
a UITableView is a subclass of UIScrollView - try setting the Content Offset (figure out how much with the cell height and indexPath).
[tableView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(0, indexPath.row*cellHeight) animated:YES];
should work. You might want to do the math a little differently.

UITableViewCell subview (left side)

Is it possible to implement a subview of a UITableViewCell on the left side of the cell that crossfades when the table enters the editing mode?
Another problem I face is that the bounds of the cell.textLabel are read-only. Is it possible to use some sort of inset for that label? (Because I, like mentioned above, want to use a View on the left side)
Edit: How do I perform an action (in this case fade a subview) when the whole table enters editingmode? (Not through a swipe over a cell). The reason why I want to implement this is because the tableview shows the "-" button on the left side of the cells if it is in editingmode. (I want to show my own button on the left side of the cells if editing=NO, fade it out if editing=YES and show it again if the tableView leaves editingmode (editing=NO))
A first thought directs me to something like this:
- (void)setEditing:(BOOL)editing animated:(BOOL)animated {
[super setEditing:editing animated:animated];
if(editing) {
//fade out my own button
} else {
//show my own button
}
}
But I would have to loop through all the cells and I think this leads to a substantial performance worsening. What do you think?
You want to set the Editing Accessory View of a UITableViewCell. See the editingAccessoryView property for information on this. More information can be found in the Customizing Cells section of the TableView Programming Guide.
The label within the content view of a table view cell is read-only so you can not reassign it but its properties are mutable. You can actually move the label around within the bounds of the table view cell. It's probably confusing to grasp, but have a look at the Characteristics of Cell Objects section of the Table View Programming Guide. In it, the bounding boxes for each of the nested views are shown (not all of them are always visible). For your purposes, a good exercise would be to set the background color of each subview of a UITableViewCell to a different color and then try to adjust the sizes of them. Doing so and understanding what's going on will probably let you achieve the end-result that you desire.
In the end I created a custom UILabel that I used instead of the default UITableView textLabel and added a custom button on the left side. In the setEditing method I fade this button in/out.

Decrease UITableViewCell width and put custom button on the left

Is there any way to decrease the standard width of grouped UITableViewCell and put a custom button on the left side(outside of cell boundary)? I tried to change the cell size but it keeps same
You are going to have to fake the editing mode.
What I mean by that is that as AtomRiot said you have to subclass UITableViewCell so that when in editing mode you show the button you want on the left, outside the cell.
But first things first.
To change the indentation level for your cells all you need to do is implement this delegate method for the UITableView
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView indentationLevelForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
So that takes care of it. Then in your UITableViewCell subclass all I would do is to implement the method
- (void)setEditing:(BOOL)editing animated:(BOOL)animated {
which I assume is called when the table the cell belongs to has changed to editing mode.
There I would fade in (or animate in any way you want) a button to appear on the left of your cell.
I have done it inside a grouped-style cell but never on the outside.
Give it a try!
You could subclass UITableCell and add your own custom views inside of it. I have not personally added a button inside one but it should work. It may get confused with the row selected call the tableview makes if you are implementing that.
The Cocoanetics blog seems to have a pretty good solution to this:

Displaying dynamic subview in tableviewcell

After the user taps a tableview cell, I'd like to slide open a small view just below the cell . The first screenshot of these two apps show this:
Tweetie 2: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tweetie-2/id333903271?mt=8
Pastebot: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id344614116?mt=8
I know how to dynamically increase the height of a cell but that is a different effect than the above. The slide out view affect doesn't seem to increase the cell's height. Also, the new view isn't as wide. Any suggestions on how to go about designing that?
You could create and insert, with animation, a new custom cell under it. Check out insertRowsAtIndexPaths:withRowAnimation:.
UPDATE
I also really like your idea of using a "slideout" view, but I agree with TechZen that this should be added as a subview of the cell.
If you want to increase the height of the cell, you need to return the correct heights for all the cells from the delegate method tableView:heightForRowAtIndexPath:. You will need to return the same height (standard is 44) for all rows except the one with the extra view which will be increased by the height of the new view.
I don't think they're sliding a view beneath the cell view, I think they're inserting the view into the cell itself and modifying the graphics to create the illusion of an overlying view.
I don't really know how they did that, but in the last minutes I tried some experiments and... the easiest solution is definitely:
NSIndexPath *myIndexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:[selectedCell intValue]+1 inSection:0];
[tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:myIndexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationTop];
Insert some custom graphics (cellForRowAtIndexPath) and it looks quite the same.
Those two apps are doing things that are quite different. Tweetie is overlaying a new cell on top of an existing one, while PasteBot is creating a new one underneath, and animating the expansion of the table view. Mooch! does the same thing as PasteBot, and it's a really cool effect that I'd like to duplicate.
