I added the reachability.m and .h files. When theres no internet connection, i want to display a UIView which is semi transparent and and comes up at the bottem like a Toolbar saying No internet Connection Available
I've got the code etc.. but i need a way to display the UIView i created and to push it to the front of everything when im using NAvigationControllers to control my application.
Could someone assist? Just need a way to push the UIView to the front but keep the nav controller on its current view so it can still go back and forth, the UIView is just a little transparant at the bottem like a pop up warning of no internet connection.
Thanks
You want the view to float above all other views but not respond to user input. You could make a new UIWindow to put the UIView in. Set the windowLevel of the window high enough to order it above other windows. Or you could add the view to the superview or window of the navigation controller.
[theNavController.view.window addSubview:theMessageView];
You could add it directly to the navigation controller view, but I think that is discouraged.

I am creating an app that requires notifications. I created a settings page with a switch to toggle notifications for the application. I tried to link the switch to ViewController2 using an #IBAction, but it keeps connecting the object to Exit, instead of ViewController. I am getting really frustrated because the #IBAction won't stay connected. I am not sure what is going on, but if I could get help that would be amazing.
The images are linked down below to Imigur.
This is the connection to ViewController2
This is what occurs when I connect the IBAction to ViewController2
You can see there is no action option for the connection in this image.
When you attach #IBActions (or #IBOutlets), you do not want to attach them to Exit on the View Controller.
Follow these steps to add an #IBAction:
1) Make sure your View Controller's class is linked to your file, then go into the Assistant Editor making sure you selected Automatic.
2) Hold Control (^) and drag the button to your ViewController class.
3) Add the button as an #IBAction. - It's also recommended to use UIButton as the sender, instead of Any.
It should look like this:

The problem might be that you are supposing you can form an action connection from a UISwitch in the scene of one view controller to a different view controller. You can't. You can form outlets and actions only between a view controller and the interface inside the same scene of the storyboard.
Click on the top bar of your problematic ViewController (the overview of what is getting displayed on screen), click the top left icon (called View Controller).
On the right click "Show The Identity Inspector" icon and you should see class. Change the text to 'ViewController'. Hopefully it should auto fill.
This will solve the problem.
In my view i added 4 UIButtons at bottom (something like tab bar application) and when I click on any button I added their respective subviews through add subview method , and when user click on another button a new subview is added on that view and so on. I am sure this is not a right way to do this task.
so kindly suggest the way i could handle this situation while taking memory management into consideration.
This can be done in two ways :
Add subview and then remove old subview when click on other button
Add all subview first time and then show and hide them.
This is the proper way for memory management.
You can use UIViewController Containment,
The best thing I have found so far is the WWDC 2011 Session Video

I have a view controller with user content like text/images/location data and i would like to duplicate the viewController and present it modally (presentModalViewController) when the user taps the edit button. The reason for doing this is because i want it to be clear that the user is entering the edit mode by using the transition/animation that comes with a modally presented controller.
Does anybody knows how to duplicate an entire viewController + its view? i don't want the overhead of reallocating the entire viewController. I tried a couple of things, but i haven't had any luck.
Any help/information would be welcome.
That sounds a little impractical. You could make an image of the current screen contents, present that using whatever animation you like on top of everything, and then remove it?
Or make other changes to your view (rearrangement of views, appearance of other controls, changes of colour) in your viewController's setEditing:animated: method.
I have application with multiple UIViewControllers using navigation controller. UIViewController contains tableView, searchbar (that I can show/hide) and toolbar. All of this is added as subviews to its view. All this subviews are created after UIViewController is initialized and their content depend on UIVievController's content.
It works fine expect one problem. When I play with my app a little, move back and forth, open some modal views etc sometimes after navigating back to my root VC all it's subviews dissapear and all I get is white screen.
I double checked all my code and I can't find source of problem (I certainly don't remove them myself). I wasn't able to find exact patern how to reproduce this, it seems random. Any idea why iphone would remove my subviews from VC? I would post some code, but I don't want to put it all here and I am not sure which part is important, so if you wish to see some, let me know
Add your views in loadView or viewDidLoad: when viewDidUnload is called, the view is released, so they need to be created again when the view is shown again.
I posted earlier but am running into similar problems again. Basically the way that my app is setup there is a top bar that is basically just a static image that has UIButtons placed on top of it. That is the Main View Controller and is persistent no matter what view is shown beneath it. I can't use a navigation controller because it is not possible to change the height and I need the bar to be significantly larger than a navbar. However my bar is functioning in much the same way. There is a "Home" Button, a "Back" Button and several destination buttons.
I understand how to switch views from say the home screen. My confusion comes with the back button. In order to press back the app is going to need to know what view is currently being displayed so that it can be removed from view and a new subview can be added. Ideally I would use the UINavigationController so that I can push and pop views which is really what I want to do here, however that is not possible because of the visual problem.
Does anybody know of a method that returns the current displayed view so I could do something like the following
[currentview.view removeFromSuperView];
[self.view insertSubview:experienceViewController.view atIndex:0]
You can use UINavigationController with the nav bar hidden. Put the nav controller inside a view that does have your jumbo toolbar and you'll have access to the push/pop behavior you're looking for.
