Tips for NetBeans to speed up development - netbeans

i am looking for tips (eg. keyboard shortcuts/features/tips) that you use to speed up development in netbeans.
i mainly develop in
HTML, CSS, JS (jQuery)
PHP
so specific to those will be great

Here's a question I asked a while ago, concerning code-folding: Can you set some sort of custom code folding in Netbeans like in Visual Studio
I made it in to a macro, so now I press my keycombo and I place code-folds in the blink of an eye.

Upload on save...and use the save shortcut. much faster than clicking save, then clicking to upload.

visual studio code editor not autocompleting, colour coding or giving suggestions

UPDATE: I solved my own problem. Solution is at end of this post
Original Post:
Intro:
Hi, I had Visual Studio Code (VSCode) installed a long time back for use with Unity but ended up not using it and opted for Visual Studio instead because that was what my Unity course was using.
I am now learning HTML so I now want to use the Visual Studio Code as the editor.
Problem:
When I type out my HTML code, VSCode is not autocompleting any of my code or giving me any suggestions or colour coding the text.
Troubleshooting steps done:
I completely uninstalled Visual Studio Code including the user data folders: .vscode in users and Code in Appdata/Romaning (which were advised on the visual Studio code website uninstall instructions).
I then installed a fresh version. But the same problem persists.
Update: I have learnt that the feature that I have an issue with is called Intellisense. CTRL-SHIFT-R is supposed to refresh this feature module. So did this and I get the message "No refactorings available". So perhaps I am missing a module or plugin that I am supposed to also install?
I'd appreciate someone's help to solve this.
Many thanks.
PS This is my first StackOverflow question, I hope it's not a forehead slapping debut!
UPDATE: SOLUTION
I just solved my own problem...and it's probably a beginner's mistake...
I discovered at the bottom right corner of the editor, this a menu tray. One of these items showed "Plain Text". On clicking it, it showed a list of programming languages. Naturally HTML was one of them and I upon clicking it. The editor Intellisense auto completion, suggestions etc kicked in.
If I may comment, I wonder why this element is somewhat conspicuous. It's not obvious for a beginner to know to click on "Plain Text" at the bottom right corner without scouring the interface or try to find a third party tutorial video. Perhaps, I can give that as a feedback to the developers.

How to hook into the Visual Studio IntelliSense completion keys to change when it triggers

Visual Studio 2015 does not have a way to only select IntelliSense when I press Enter or Tab anymore in C# for 2015. It's available for JavaScript but not C#.
I'm trying to create a MEF project and hook into the IntelliSense to change this behaviour for C# files. Just to get started, I tried to implement this sample plugin from Microsoft:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee372314.aspx
The sample compiles, but it does not work. Nothing in the code is triggered from the debugged IDE. The samples tells to start a new text file and press "a" to get demo IntelliSense, but it never trigger.
Here's the code project if anyone want to look into it:
http://ontime.zdata.no/donwload/ProperIntellisense.zip
Could someone guide me in the right direction here, the documentation in this area is very fluid.
There isn't a supported way to use the APIs to customize this. The behavior you're looking to change falls under the Roslyn project on GitHub so you're more than welcome to file a bug there as feedback. You're also welcome to send a pull request, but at this point it's really tricky to make a change to the editor components of Roslyn and apply those to your locally installed Visual Studio. It's something we're working on fixing but it's not done yet.
The workaround is to press Ctrl+Alt+Space when inside the editor. That will toggle into the correct IntelliSense behaviour. Not a very easy thing to find, but it saved my day. They should probably give better information about this toggle feature, and make it more visible.. Still, it will not be remembered after closing the IDE, so you have to do it every time you start the IDE.

VSCode plugins and thoughts on alpha release

So I'm starting to guess Javascript wasn't the best choice for VSCode to be based on. It is pretty much the same as SublimeText and even slower, though the debugger and code intel is awesome and far beyond Sublime's capabilities.
The thing is I suddenly got a chrome-like inspector frame on the right side of the window, which caught my attention and got me googling about it (too bad almost nobody is talking about vscode yet so it's a pain to even find some info), and found out another person got the same weird issue. Somebody told him that F12 opens the inspector like a normal web app so you can look under the hood (which os most likely bullcrap since it makes no sense, probably just a bug).
The thing is I decided to test out keypresses, and discovered Fn+Shift+Cmd+F12 opens a new window with a weird button and a web inspector, which has no utility at all, but it's there so I got curious and messed up with it for a while. Bad idea since it crashed the entire app.
All this story has the point of warning about how Javascript is not as stable and independent as Objective C, since it's obviously working on top of V8 and Webkit and whatnot, any of which multiply its chances to crash.
Sublime has also crashed for me a couple times, but it does Atom Saving (operating system's native autosave that stores every change in the filesystem so app crashes don't affect the files).
VSCode is not native and is in a very alpa state (version 0.1.0 as today), so this is kind of a feedback for them and a warning for other users, posted here because there is a link for this stackoverflow community on their website, and is the only community-driven way of feedback they have.
I wish they open the development so others can contribute or, at least, do like SublimeText which isn't open but supports extensibility thru plugins and python console.
Now, the question:
Is there a way to make Sublime plugins work here?
The keybindings you have found are used by us internally to debug VSCode quickly in case we notice a problem. We simply forgot to remove them, kind of like how Ctrl+Alt+Delete happened :).
We will remove these keybindings with our next update, to avoid confusion, in a couple of weeks.
We have plans on supporting plugins, we have made progress on this story, but we were not happy enough with the API, and we decided to further validate and improve it before making it public, to avoid as much as possible future API breakage.
As for the actual question, it is not possible to run Sublime plugins in VSCode, for similar reasons why it is not possible to run Sublime plugins in Eclipse or in Visual Studio. There is, however the possibility of code sharing between plugins developed for different platforms, see for example Omnisharp, which is shipped with VSCode and for which there is a Sublime plugin.
You're complaining about VSCode being created using HTML, CSS and JavaScript and not something like C# or Objective C. You do realize that since day one the following Apple apps were made with a similar hybrid approach of Objective C and HTML, CSS and JavaScript. These are apps that millions of people use: iOS: iTunes app, iTunes Store app, App Store, and on desktop: iTunes, App Store.
Visual Studio Code is a preview, meaning something that just left alpha stage development and is in early, early, early beta, like just a week ago. So there are lots of things that are still missing or not totally working yet. The Visual Studio team is working at three-week sprints and intend to update the product at that pace, so if you've downloaded it, don't expect it to have every possible feature yet. This is a preview. Explore it. If it doesn't fit your current workflow, don't use it. Stick with what you have. But keep an eye on it because it will evolve steadily over the coming months.
I tried F12 in VSCode on windows and it opened the Dev Tools window, which makes sense since it's built on GIT's open source editor Atom & Chrome.
Sublime plugins? No, you can't use ST3 plugins in Atom, but hopefully we'll be able to use Atom plugins in VSCode once plugins are included in VSCode.
At the moment VSCode don't have any functionality for plugins, but it's coming soon see forum
There is also menu item under help in VSCode for reporting issues and suggesting features.
Me too would like Plugins for VS Code. As I would like a WakaTime plugin as I'm spending so much time working in it :). Both on Mac as in Windows.
I also discovered F12 one day but just thought: 'wow pretty cool!' and nothing more. But hey, I'm a webdev.. :)
It's now october and it's still there. And I hope it will stay. Just like crrl+alt+delete. #Sebastian I agree with #JimmyBoh, the whole preamble of this question is probably better suited to be put on a forum. Otherwise this question will probably be closed as 'not constructive'. To prevent other non-answers like this one :).

Matlab: How to activate autocomplete without Tab?

From
How to enable auto word completion in the MATLAB Editor?
I know that we can Tab to ask for autocomplete. However, this is kind tedious. In IDEs like rubymine, there is no need to ask for a autocomplete, the suggestion jumps out by itself.
And this is working on mobile device: http://www.mathworks.cn/cn/help/matlabmobile_android/ug/autocomplete.html. Is is possile to do it on desktop?
So how can I make the autocomplete autoly? without the need of Tab?
I've searched that on the Internet before. But no results:( It seems that Tab is the only way to achieve complete on MATLAB desktop up till now. AUTOcomplete is available on the mobile version because of the inconvenience for one to type on a mobile phone MAYBE.

How can I get block comment hotkey functionality when editing *.ftl files in Eclipse?

Trying to edit Freemarker Templates in Eclipse, and going nuts because I have some inline Javascript that I'm creating on the fly, and can't easily comment / uncomment multiple lines at a time.
I've tried the following:
expanding the scope of the "toggle comment" behavior (to things like "Editing Text", or "In Windows") - has no effect
installing the official Freemarker eclipse plugin (both 1.0 and 1.1) - has absolutely no effect that I can see, other than appearing under "Preferences ... File Associations"
associating the .ftl extension with other types of editors - HTML, JavaScript, 3rd party - all these have absolutely no effect that I can see
Is there a way I can tell if Eclipse is even honoring my file associations? How do I know, for sure, which Editor is being used? I know when a Java file is being edited, I see additional pulldown menus (Source, etc.) - is there any other diagnostic way to figure out what's going on?
Any help is appreciated.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the Freemarker support in IntelliJ IDEA is really great.
Unfortunately, it isn't part of the free Community Edition, so you have to get the Ultimate Edition to benefit from it. But you can try it out for 30 days for free.
No, I am in no way associated with JetBrains, just a happy user.
