Search component effect in the mail application - iphone

In the iPhone email application once I click on the search bar it shifted to top and the background gets black. How to achieve this type of effect in the code? Do we need to create a custom UIView and make this shift explicitly?

How to hide a mobile keyboard's upper bar?

I have a simple Swift web view application which loads an input (of type text). Everything is fine, but I want to hide the bar marked with red circle in the picture - keyboard's bar. Is it possible?
According to Apple's documentation there are default keyboard types which can be accessed, but apparently not changed themself.

NSButton in Swift, handle click and release events

i'm trying to manage different state of a simple push button on an OS X application : When the user click on it, and when the user release the click.
Currently i set my button type by NSMomentaryLightButton
NSMomentaryLightButton When the button is clicked (on state), it
appears illuminated. If the button has borders, it may also appear
recessed. When the button is released, it returns to its normal (off)
state.
This type of button is best for simply triggering actions because it
doesn’t show its state; it always displays its normal image or title.
This option is called Momentary Light in Interface Builder’s Button
inspector
I thought it was the good way, but when i print my button status, it's like a toggle button than the push button that i set. As you can see on exemple gif
To sum up, How can i have a real push button behaviour ? Call function when the user click on it, and when the user release the click.
Thank,
You don't want to use buttons for piano keys. First, they are non-rectangular, and they don't act as buttons do: neither single-action push-button, nor toggle switches. You are interacting in a custom way, with a custom view, meaning the NSButton control hierarchy isn't called for. Instead you're subclassing NSView and capturing low-level mouse events as detailed here:
https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/content/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/EventOverview/HandlingMouseEvents/HandlingMouseEvents.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/10000060i-CH6-SW1
You found this yourself as you detailed in your own comments, but I wanted to make sure you had a higher level point of view. It's even possible, and probably best, to consolidate all of the piano keys into a single view, and let the keys themselves be rendered using NSBezierPath and perform mouse hit detection using containsPoint:
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Cocoa/Reference/ApplicationKit/Classes/NSBezierPath_Class/#//apple_ref/occ/instm/NSBezierPath/containsPoint:
This is a lot more work but the only way to make a truly professional looking piano simulation. Then you can render the keys with whatever outline, fill, and labeling you need without the limitations of built-in button shapes and layout. You could even have the bottom edges of the keys slightly rounded, for example, or apply a shiny texture.

Styling button with dynamic text in iOS app

I am not a iOS developer. I am working on designing GUI for an iOS application to be developed using Appcelerator Titanium.
As far as all the other buttons are concerned, they can be provided with a .png image to style them. But this one type of button which has dynamic text, and thus can have width of various sizes as shown in the image below.
The screenshot is from Instagram iOS app. It shows the button in navigation bar named Camera which is the name of the folder from which image being cropped resides. In the app I'm designing for has a button with same functionality.
I just want to know whether it is possible to add custom styling for this particular type of button.
Thanks.
yes you can create a button and set the backgroundImage for the button to be whatever you want
http://docs.appcelerator.com/titanium/latest/#!/api/Titanium.UI.Button
third paragraph
You can specify background images for each state, as well as button text and a button icon. On iOS, there are button styles which define appearance for each state, even if no button images are set.
backgroundLeftCap Property
Simple answer: yes you can add custom styling to this button. As for the varying width, the background image will stretch to fill it.

iPhone app with a 'Left' nav.

I've been asked to create an iphone app with a left nav/menu. Since there are no native UI components to use for this, I was wondering what would be the best way to achieve this. The only app that I remember that had this kind of thing was the Facebook app from about 18months ago.
Is there a good 3rd party API to handle this kind of thing?
Description of the left nav: There is a permanent left nav along the left of the screen running the full length of the screen. When the user selects a menu option a UIView/UIViewController slide in from the right side and covers over the menu. A little button is left stuck to the left side of the screen. If the user selects this button the view slides back to the right again, and the leftnav menu appears from underneath the view and it is possible to interact with again.
Where is the problem? just create a UIView with subview containing UIButtons, you have to layout the buttons yourself (calculate the frame). Later you add that leftmenuView to the UiViewCobtroller.

iPhone SearchBar with Buttons Underneath?

How would one implement a search field like the one used on the iPhone Mail application. When you attempt to search it shows up 4 buttons under the search bar with the fields you can search. The search bar actually moves up to cover the navigation bar and exposes those buttons.
I'd like to do something similar in my application where you can specify what exactly you are searching for. I think the mail search is a little difference since it also has a cancel button?
How would you accomplish this and what components would you use?
Do you mean the so called ScopeBar? Use a SearchDisplayController and there you could set the scopes of the ScopeBar.
Or drag a normal UISearchBar on your view, and the with the inspector you are able to set the scope items.
