I'm trying to acheive a dual-tabBar app for the iPhone and using the following code for a base class view controller to add several navigation controllers inside the view controller (see code below). But the problem is: No subviews are added to self.view, despite them being initialized earlier. Any ideas?

I figured it out. I had the following in a view controller I was adding...
- (void)loadView
{
}
, which of course means that the superclass won't be loaded at all. Stupid. Otherwise, this method works quite well. :)

I am trying to make a survey app but I can't make the memory management although I am using ARC. My app makes memory leak. I get memory warning. When I make my app in interface builder statically there is no problem but when i make my app programmatically I get memory problem. Why is that happening? Here is my code:

I'm a creating a subclass of UIView (MultiColumnTableView) which will hold a couple of table views. However, when I add my custom view as a subview to the view controller it is never visible, and I really can't figure out why?

I'm expecting to see some blue table views, but they are not visible, and therefore they never call cellForRowAtIndexPath:, but they do call numberOfRowsInSection. My custom subview is added to the root view. When counting the subviews it returns 1. Can anyone see the problem?

If a UIView subclass needs to message a controller above itself, a common (and often recommended?) way to do this is to have the view subclass implement the delegate protocol (a weak linked instance variable pointing to the view controller that you want to use). The view controller should then set itself as the delegate of the view when that view is being initialize.
Try defining this method in your PhotoViewController:

Try this out to switch to the first controller.

Change the index value to switch to whichever controller you want to switch to.
The tabBarController should be a property of the app delegate.
Try accessing it with :
MyAppDelegate *appDelegate = (MyAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication]
delegate];
appDelegate.tabBarController.selectedIndex = 0;
Unless you declare the same property in PhotoViewController, you won't be able to access it this way.
Try importing the app delegate header in PhotoViewController.h like so :

Is there something that I need to remember when using the windows-based template? Because I'm unclear as to why the tabs are showing up but nothing in the views are showing up.

Dissecting your viewDidLoad –

You seem to be creating a new scroll view instance here but you have declared it as an outlet. If you don't have an outlet then remove the IBOutlet tag for scroller. If you do have one and want to use it then remove the above line. A shorter way of doing it would be,

Another thing is that you are creating 10 labels but assigning no frame. To show one of them each in different page,

The problem is with this line

You need to change it to
AnotherMadeUpViewController *vc3 = [[AnotherMadeUpViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"AnotherMadeUpViewController" bundle:nil];
Then your .xib will get loaded and your outlets will be connected.
And don't forget to connect your outlets to File's owner in IB.
I have an application which contains a scrollview with two subviews (to scroll left and right between them)
Both views appear correctly and scrolling between the views worked fine. Now I want to change the first view to be a TTTableView (courtesy of Three20) but when I use the class 'TableControlsTestController' from the TTCatalog application all I see is an empty tableView
Note that this class contains all the data to display 6 cells
To add the new TTTableView I use the following
[scrollView addSubview:detailView.view];
where detailView is the instance of TableControlsTestController
To try and narrow down where the problem is I also tried calling
[self presentModalViewController:detailView animated:YES];
This correctly displays the tableview with the 6 cells.
Why when I try to add the view to the scrollView does this not work as I expect?

It turns out that some of the events were not being propagated through the scrollView and therefore not handled in the TTTableViewController. To fix this I had to do the following in my scrollView
- (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated {
[super viewWillAppear:animated];
[myNewTTViewController viewWillAppear:NO];
}
- (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated {
[super viewDidAppear:animated];
[myNewTTViewController viewDidAppear:NO];
}
- (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated {
[super viewWillDisappear:animated];
[myNewTTViewController viewWillDisappear:NO];
}
- (void)viewDidDisappear:(BOOL)animated {
[super viewDidDisappear:animated];
[myNewTTViewController viewDidDisappear:NO];
}
As soon as I did this the table popped into life
