I'm really interested to know how actually would be the database schema of Facebook? How many databases, tables and fields would be maintained? How is the updating done?

FWIW, here's a podcast from ITconversations describing Facebooks LAMP-stack. They seem to go with KISS as far as database schema goes.

I would like to extract a list of ALL locations Facebook has stored, together with their Facebook Id. Would it be possible to do the same with for example sports teams? Companies? etc.
Many Thanks for your help!
No - this is not possible. Facebook does not make this information publicly accessible.

I read that to make a facebook program you have to have a server. Is that true? I'm planning on making a facebook program but am wondering what kind of hassle it is.
Facebook just released integration with Heroku so that you can make an app without having to manage your own server. The post about it is here.
