k, I'm new to this so apologies all around, generally.
I'm trying to access the UISwitch value (on or off) from a different view and class and can't make it work.
It's a simple 2 view app. Main view and the second is a preference menu.
trying to write an if/else method to play sound when the switch (on the other view) is on and not when its off.
I cant seem to make it work. Any thoughts or some syntax examples would really help me out.

Instead of accessing the view object, when the switch state is changed by the user you save the status into NSUserDefaults as preference value. Whenever you want, you can access the switch status value through the preferences.
I'm going to take what I think you're trying to accomplish here and suggest an alternative approach. You want to have a preference in your app (assumed from "preferences menu") that allows the user to set something like whether or not you app plays background music. (May not be exact, this is just for clarification).
Typically, in a well designed app, the flow is driven by the data, with the UI reflecting the state of the data model and the controllers coordinating the two layers. What you are suggesting is to have your application play music based on the state of the UI, which is not backed by any data model. This cuts out the model level, and as you noticed, can lead to awkward attempts at communicating between the UI of different controllers for information.
Things like application preferences are typically stored in a nifty .plist file that is managed through the NSUserDefaults class. This would be a great place for the data level tracking of your preference. In this situation, the UISwitch would represent the state of the flag in the settings file, and changing the value of the switch would change the value in the file. Anywhere else in your application that you need to know if the play-sound-flag is set, you reference the data model info instead of the UI. This decouples the view controllers from each other, which is a good thing.

then you need to access this appDelegate property in second view where you are playing sound
then according to this value you can do what you want and for making object of appDelegate class you need this line

I read so many articles on it. All were telling how to implement the concept, but no one was telling why we need to implement that, in which case we should implement it.

You load a new view..(Login View ) .

Think of all the components that iOS and Cocoa provide you with. TableViews, TextFields, PopOvers...etc.
When the developers wrote these components, they couldn't possibly know all the various implementations that us developers were going to create using these components. But we need somehow to communicate with them in a generic way.
These components use delegates. The delegate is an implementation independent way of describing some behaviour that your component can conform to.
When UITableView need to find out what is the height of the rows, the UITableView only needs to know about UITableViewDelegate. It doesn't need to know about MyTableViewController, JohnsTableViewController, BobsTableViewController... etc.
So the delegate is decoupling the component from the implementation and the type.
Decoupling is a good thing. It makes maintaing and changing code a lot easier, and makes code reusable.
Delegation is a simple and powerful pattern in which one object in a

There are two key benefits of delegation: customizing objects without subclassing, and improving encapsulation.
Customization without subclassing is a benefit you get from many of the Cocoa and Cocoa-Touch APIs using the delegate pattern. If they didn't do so, you might have to subclass a UITableView every time you wanted to change its behavior by using different types of cells or a different data source. Instead, you just set the table view's delegate and data source to customize its behavior.
As for encapsulation, the delegate pattern helps you keep the different components of your code separate. For example, if your custom View needs to have some data, it would be bad practice to simply give it access to your Model, or even full access to your Controller. Instead, you'd probably set up some kind of delegate protocol for your View that your Controller would implement. That way your classes know no more about each other than they need to, so that changes in one part would be less likely to break others.
I have a TabBar Application with 2 tabs saving/fetching data to and from CoreData. The problem that I am having is that when the form has been filled and the user has touched the save button the view is not re-loaded or re-initialised. All I want is for the view to be ready for the user to repeat the process with the next set of information. I am probably not thinking about this in the correct way so a pointer in the right direction would be very much appreciated...
Do I need to manually set everything including the managedObjectContext etc. to nil? Or is there something that I can do with methods like viewWillDisappear that will elegantly help me to "re-initialise" that specific tab?
I ave read up the Apple docs on view hierarchies, and life cycles but I just seem to have confused myself...

It sounds like what you want to do is reload any data to their default states when the user taps a button. Unfortunately, you'll have to do this manually, setting each IBOutlet's value to a meaningful default (probably the empty string).
There are two ways I can think of that would help make this more elegant:
Use an IBOutletCollection and fast enumeration to loop over all the IBOutlets and not have a bunch of code to do each one individually.
If you're switching tabs in between these events, you can something neat and use your app delegate as your UITabBarControllerDelegate for the tabBarController:didSelectViewController: to call the clearing-out method for you instead of relying on viewDidAppear.
Now,I gonna Develop an App ,which wants to switch from many different Views irregularly,also the views need to load large resources,AKA,it's hard to manage memory.Are there any good solustion?
PS:I created a ViewController as RootViewController,and When a button was Touch,run the code as
"ViewController=newController"
.The problem came,The new View loaded wrong way,it rotate so that couldn't show in a correct way.
I google for the solution,some one said ,I should replace the rootViewController,just like that,
[UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate.window.rootViewController=newController;
But I can't get/set the rootViewController in other class though it's a singleton.
Why not having a class that handles all the view switches ?

I have a very small bit of data that I would like to archive from my apps view. My question is, its far easier to save this data from the viewController, but should I really be pushing it back into my model and saving it there? BTW: I also need to do a quick load of this data when the app starts up.
Interesting question. If the data is not part of the model, then, no, the model classes should not take on the responsibility of saving it. If the data is only concerned with the view, then perhaps the view object should be responsible for saving, but that would break the rule that view objects should only concern themselves with display.
Seeing as we are in Cocoa territory, I think this task falls firmly to the ViewController. If you make sure that the ViewController is represented by an object (blue box, if I'm not mistaken) in Interface Builder, then you can take advantage of awakeFromNib to load your save data. BTW, it sounds like NSUserDefaults should be mechanism to use to do the archiving/saving & unarchiving/loading.
I am developing an iPhone app for some sweet undergrad research I've been working on. Sadly, my school doesn't offer software engineering / design classes so when it comes to questions of best practices in OO Design, I do a lot of reading.
My Dilemma:
My application loads a view (v1) where, upon user's button click, v1's controller class executes an action method. This action method should fill an array with objects. After that, the user will either execute the action again or click a different tab to load another view. Other views in the application will use the array that v1 populated.
So, where should this shared array be declared? Right now, it's in the AppDelegate class from when I was testing features without a GUI. Should I grab the AppDelegate singleton and add items to it in the v1ViewController? Should it be declared as static?

I guess what I'm wondering is, do you make the sharedInstance method call every time or do you define a pointer to the sharedInstance and then reference the pointer?
Using the app delegate to store data that's shared between views and view controllers is reasonable and appropriate.
In my apps, I view the app delegate as the controller part of MVC, with UIViews and view controllers all being part of the "view". I prefer to use a variant of MVC called Passive View that keeps the model and view parts of my app strictly segregated with only the controller connecting them.
I'm assuming that the array of objects you're storing is your app's model, so storing them on your app delegate makes sense. As Daniel D said, there's no need to make it static.
The app delegate is really the heart of your program. You create and initialize your model and views in your -applicationDidFinishLaunching: method and save your model data and view state in -applicationWillTerminate:. When your view controllers receive events that changes your model, you can call methods on your app delegate to make those changes.
You could store it in an ivar in the app delegate. You don't need to make it static since the app delegate is a singleton anyways (there's never more than 1 instance).
If the app delegate is getting a bit complicated, you can factor out the data storage into a separate model object or perhaps use Core Data.
