I've created a subclassed TTPhotoViewController and presented modally in a navigation controller.
When I try to set the rightBarButtonItem, it won't change away from the "show all" button that would take me to the gallery.
I can set leftBarButtonItem but not right.
I tried created my own view controller which held the photo view controller, initialized it in VDL then set the frame and added subview, but I only saw white.
I want to use T20's functionality of auto-rotation, swipe to scroll, etc.. but I want to only show this detail view without the gallery, and let the user close it with a button on the nav bar.
Any suggestions?
it's too late but here is my two cents: subclass and override the didLoadModel
-(void)didLoadModel:(BOOL)firstTime;
{
[super didLoadModel:firstTime];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = nil;
}
Looking at TTPhotoViewController.m, it appears that the "See All" button is created in a function called updateChrome; and it looks like there is no elegant way to override the creation of that button. So the best option I can think of, although this is somewhat clumsy, would be to just subclass TTPhotoViewController, and override that function. Either copy the code into your own function and tweak it (and don't call super), or call super but then assign a new button to rightBarButtonItem.

I have a ViewController1 and ViewController2. ViewController1 has a NavigationController set to it. I have a button (Custom Search Icon) on the NavigationBar. Now I press control+click and drag to ViewController2 and set it to Show. When I press it, it doesn't work. I also tried to drag the button to ViewController1 and set it as an IBAction but that doesn't work either.
What I want accomplished:
I want to create a button on the left side of the NavBar. When clicking it, I want to be add the searchbar and allow the user to search from an array. What is the best way about doing this? The search bar also has the cancel button, and if pressed the user should return back to his previous ViewController. I don't want anyone to the work for me but if you could point me to the right direction, it would be awesome.
I'm assuming by "Custom Search Icon", you mean a UIBarButtonItem in the navigation bar. If that's the case you should be able to segue to a controller using the technique you described, so you could try putting in a new UIBarButtonItem and try again.
But for the problem you're describing I might recommend a slightly different approach using UISearchController. Since it sounds like you're using storyboards, drag in the Search Bar and Search Display Controller from the object library to your controller, just below the navigation bar.
Check out UISearchController documentation:
[https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/ios/documentation/UIKit/Reference/UISearchController/ ]
And here's a sample project from Apple:
[https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/samplecode/TableSearch_UISearchController/Introduction/Intro.html ]
Good luck!
Delete all the connections from the interface builder first. Clear the codes associated to the button.
Create an IBAction and put a break point to see if its called when u click the button.
If it does get called then push a new ViewController onto it,(ViewController2).
Add your search bar here on the ViewController 2.
I'm trying to execute code when a button is pressed for an application but I can't find how to change the views after the code is executed. Is there a way to switch views how I want to or is there another way? Thank you in advanced, I'm very new to xcode.
edit: I'm trying to go from one view to another, not the view controller and yes I have one storyboard that I planned on using for the whole project if possible.
To execute code when a button is pressed, you have to set up a method that the button is hooked into. Because you said you're using storyboards, I'll assume your button is on the storyboard. Go to the assistant editor, hold ctrl, and click-and-drag from the button to the view controller's .m file (#implementation section). This will create an IBAction method, and any code in this method will execute whenever you press the button.
The method will look like this:
- (IBAction)aButtonPress:(id)sender {
}
According to your comments, you say you only want to change the on-screen view, and not transition from one view to the next.
Views are added and removed with the following methods:
[aSuperview addSubview:aSubview];
[aSubview removeFromSuperview];
I can't really tell you much else with a lot more detail from you... and even though I asked twice in the comments and you said you only want to change the view, not the view controller... I think you probably need to transition to a new view controller. Impossible to know for sure as you've given almost no detail...
But if you want to transition between view controllers (which also transitions views), then ...
Create two view controllers on the storyboard. Hook them together with a segue, and give that segue a name. Now, to perform that segue in code:
[self performSegueWithIdentifier:#"YOUR_SEGUE_NAME" sender:self];
In some point in my app, I'm programmatically change the leftBarButtonItem of a viewController (I'm changing the entire button look not just the text).
The result is that the button indeed changes but at once, but I want to do it with some animation (The same way it would do the animation to left navigation bar if I push a viewController)
Is it possible?
There is a method specifically for that, called setLeftBarButtonItems:animated:
It animates the change in bar button items for you.
After a view has been pushed onto the UINavigationController stack and is displayed I need to disable the Back button under certain circumstances, e.g., when data is being edited on that screen.
The following hides the Back button
self.navigationItem.hidesBackButton=YES;
but I need to disable it.
There are several other answers about how to hide it or suggest not displaying it in the first place, but these are not what I need to implement.
You could implement one of the delegate methods for your navigationController's navigation bar delegate. Take a look at the [UINavigationBarDelegate navigationBar:shouldPopItem:] method.
Returning YES or NO from this method will enable or disable the back button.
You could implement one leftBarButtonItem (invisible and without effect)
add it into your current view (self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem)
and remove it to access your backButton.
If you're fine that the whole navigation bar is disabled, an easy solution is
self.navigationController.navigationBar.userInteractionEnabled = NO;
Of course this doesn't work if you have other bar buttons that you want to keep enabled.
I did a simple view based application.
what i did is creating view additional to existing view.
means there is one view named main in .xib file additional to that i am creating another view
IBOutlet UIView *view_additional;
In the main view by button click i call the view_additional view.
For the view_additional view i place navigation bar with one bar button named back.
In the back button click event i need to get back to main view.
for that in the button click action i write the fallowing code.
[view_additional removeFromSuperview];
But it is not open main view,shows a white screen.
what the wrong.
how can i get back from additional view to main view.
Thank u in advance.
for the code you used to display view_additional, instead of using self.view = view_additional
try using, on button click
[self addSubview: view_additional];
And once that's done, your code should work just fine the way you want.
When dealing with views, if you change a view, then remove it, as you did in your code, then all that will be left is the main app window. There will be no views on that window. From the look of it, you want to load up a new view, and then remove it once you're done with it. You can do this by adding the new view as a subview instead of totally changing the parent view. Another thing you can do is set an IBOutlet for the original view as well, this way you'll have an outlet for both views, and then instead of removing your additional_view from the superview, you can just switch it back. So the code for the Back Button would just be
self.view = original_view;
on back button click. I hope this isn't too confusing for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
Both methods would work for what you want to do.
I resolve my problem as
instead of [self.view = view_additional];
i use
[self addSubview: view_additional];
To get back to original view in the button click
i use
[view_additional removeFromSuperview];
MahesBabu, that is exactly What I suggested that you do. Only I offered the background info on why you should do it that way.
# MaheshBabu:
This is the common code u can use to go on next view or go on back, Just change button name which u want to press and the view name on which u want to go. For example on back button press u want to go on library view then write this code -
-(IBAction)backButtonPressed:(id) sender
{
libraryView *libraryview=[[libraryView alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
libraryview.modalTransitionStyle=UIModalTransitionStyleCoverVertical;
[self presentModalViewController:libraryview animated:YES];
[libraryview release];
}
Let me know whether ur problem is solved or not.
