How can I dismiss UIAlertView ? This code doesn't work.
#property (nonatomic, retain) UIAlertView *activityAlertView;
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
self.activityAlertView = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Receiving data" message:#"\n\n"
delegate:self
cancelButtonTitle:#"Cancel"
otherButtonTitles:nil, nil];
[activityAlertView show];
}
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
{
}
-(void) myfunc
{
[self alertView:activityAlertView clickedButtonAtIndex:1];
}
The - (void)dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex animated:(BOOL)animated method of the UIAlertView class does what you want. eg:
[myAlertView dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:-1 animated:YES];
Since you are using a delegate callback method of UIAlertView, I think it is better you use the following code
[myAlertView dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:0 animated:YES];
if not then use the above suggested code
[myAlertView dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:-1 animated:YES];

I have 3 buttons in my UIActionsheet.
I want one cancel button at the bottom of it.
I also want that all of the buttons should be able to dismiss UIActionsheet.
Currently, none of them does the job for me.
Here is how I display it:
UIActionSheet *actionSheet = nil;
NSArray *otherButtons = nil;
otherButtons = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:#"Button1", #"Button2", #"Button3",
nil];
actionSheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:title
delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:nil destructiveButtonTitle:nil otherButtonTitles:nil, nil];
for( NSString *btntitle in otherButtons)
{
[actionSheet addButtonWithTitle:btntitle];
}
[actionSheet addButtonWithTitle:#"Cancel"];
actionSheet.cancelButtonIndex = actionSheet.numberOfButtons - 1;
actionSheet.actionSheetStyle = UIActionSheetStyleDefault;
[actionSheet showInView:self.view];
In my delegate, I do this:
- (void)actionSheet:(UIActionSheet *)actionSheet clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
{
//some code
[actionSheet dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:buttonIndex animated:YES];
}
But it does not dismiss. I do not want to change my design and position of any buttons.
What should I do?
-(void)actionSheet:(UIActionSheet *)actionSheet clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex{
[actionSheet dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:buttonIndex animated:YES];
[self performSelector:#selector(OtherOperations) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.0];
}
-(void)OtherOperations{ //some code
}
Be careful when opening an action sheet from a lpgr. Only open it on "Began", not again on "Ended".
- (void) handleLongPress:(UILongPressGestureRecognizer *)gestureRecognizer
{
CGPoint p = [gestureRecognizer locationInView:self.tblYourVids];
if (gestureRecognizer.state == UIGestureRecognizerStateBegan) {
NSIndexPath *indexPath = [self.aTable indexPathForRowAtPoint:p];
if (indexPath == nil)
NSLog(#"long press on table view but not on a row");
else {
NSLog(#"long press on table view at row %d", indexPath.row);
self.selectedCell = [self.aTable cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
DLog(#"open action sheet only once");
[self showActionSheet];
}
} else if (gestureRecognizer.state == UIGestureRecognizerStateEnded) {
// eat this one
}
}
you have to add this to yours .h file.
<UIActionSheetDelegate>
Also add this line to yours .m file.
actionSheet.delegate = self;
Let me know, this is working or not. If works, accept it as right answer
just try to use the below code.it will automatically dismiss.
UIActionSheet *sheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:#""
delegate:self
cancelButtonTitle:#"cancel"
destructiveButtonTitle:#"Printer"
otherButtonTitles: nil];
[sheet showInView:self.view];
[sheet release];
-(void)actionSheet:(UIActionSheet *)actionSheet clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
{
}
let me know whether it is working or not
Happy Coding!!!!!
This is not the right way to cancel UIActionSheet firstly you have to disable to default UIActionSheet by javascipt
and go through this web

I want to have this method [User logOut]; run when a user touches the Log Me out button in the following UIAlertView.
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Logged in!" message:#"Logged in to App!" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:#"Okay" otherButtonTitles:#"Log me out", nil];
[alert show];
[alert release];
how would I go about doing that? The "Okay" works for the cancel button. I just need the other button/method to work.
thanks for any help
You can do something like;
- (void)AlertConfirm
{
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] init];
[alert setTitle:#"Confirm"];
[alert setMessage:#"Log out?"];
[alert setDelegate:self];
[alert addButtonWithTitle:#"Yes"];
[alert addButtonWithTitle:#"No"];
[alert show];
[alert release];
}
And
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
{
if (buttonIndex == 0)
{
// Yes, do something
}
else if (buttonIndex == 1)
{
// No
}
}
Good luck,
Nathan
You need to use the UIAlertView delegate method:
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
Make sure you set yourself as the delegate of your alertView.
Set the alert view's delegate to be self, and in your .h add
The following delegate method will be called when a button is pressed:
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
Then you can see what button was pressed by doing something like:
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex {
if ((alertView == alert) && (buttonIndex == 0))
NSLog(#"alert's \"Okay\" button was pressed");
else
NSLog(#"alert's \"Log Out" button was pressed");
}
Set your view controller to be the delegate of the UIAlertView:
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Logged in!" message:#"Logged in to App!" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:#"Okay" otherButtonTitles:#"Log me out", nil];
alert.delegate = self;
[alert show];
[alert release];
Then handle in the delegate callback:
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
{
if (buttonIndex == alertView.cancelButtonIndex) {
// Cancelled
return;
}
// Log them out
}
Note the test (buttonIndex == alertView.cancelButtonIndex). This is better form than checking an absolute value for the button index.
I need to add a TextField to an UIAlertView. I understand that apple discourage this approach. So is there any library that i could make use of to add a TextField to a UIAlertView look-alike frame ?
For iOS5:
UIAlertView *av = [[UIAlertView alloc]initWithTitle:#"Title" message:#"Please enter someth" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:#"Cancel" otherButtonTitles:#"OK", nil];
av.alertViewStyle = UIAlertViewStylePlainTextInput;
[av textFieldAtIndex:0].delegate = self;
[av show];
Also, you 'll need to implement UITextFieldDelegate, UIAlertViewDelegate protocols.
Unfortunately the only official API for this is iOS 5 and up, it's a property called alertViewStyle which can be set to the following parameters:
UIAlertViewStyleDefault
UIAlertViewStyleSecureTextInput
UIAlertViewStylePlainTextInput
UIAlertViewStyleLoginAndPasswordInput
UIAlertViewStylePlainTextInput being the one you want.
Messing with the view hierarchy as described above is strongly discouraged by Apple.
I'm using BlockAlertsAndActionSheets instead of the Apple components for AlertViews and ActionSheets as I prefer the blocks-approach. Also contains a BlockTextPromptAlertView in the source, which might be what you want. You can replace the images of that control to get the Apple-style back.
Project on gitgub
Tutorial which gets you started
Example:
- (IBAction)newFolder:(id)sender {
id selfDelegate = self;
UITextField *textField;
BlockTextPromptAlertView *alert = [BlockTextPromptAlertView promptWithTitle :#"New Folder"
message :#"Please enter the name of the new folder!"
textField :&textField];
[alert setCancelButtonWithTitle:#"Cancel" block:nil];
[alert addButtonWithTitle:#"Okay" block:^{
[selfDelegate createFolder:textField.text];
}];
[alert show];
}
- (void)createFolder:(NSString*)folderName {
// do stuff
}
Try something like this:
UIAlertView *alert = [[[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Title"
message:#"\n\n"
delegate:self
cancelButtonTitle:#"Cancel"
otherButtonTitles:#"Save", nil] autorelease];
CGRect rect = {12, 60, 260, 25};
UITextField *dirField = [[[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:rect] autorelease];
dirField.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
[dirField becomeFirstResponder];
[alert addSubview:dirField];
[alert show];
As of iOS 8 UIAlertView has been deprecated in favor of UIAlertController, which adds support for adding UITextFields using the method:
- (void)addTextFieldWithConfigurationHandler:(void (^)(UITextField *textField))configurationHandler;
See this answer for an example.
You can try:
UIAlertView *myAlertView = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Your title here!" message:#"this gets covered" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:#"Cancel" otherButtonTitles:#"OK", nil];
UITextField *myTextField = [[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(12.0, 45.0, 260.0, 25.0)];
[myTextField setBackgroundColor:[UIColor whiteColor]];
[myAlertView addSubview:testTextField];
[myAlertView show];
[myAlertView release];
Follow this link for detail.
first of All Add UIAlertViewDelegate into ViewController.h File like
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface UIViewController : UITableViewController<UIAlertViewDelegate>
#end
and than Add Below Code where you wants to alert Display,
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Title"
message:#"Message"
delegate:self
cancelButtonTitle:#"Done"
otherButtonTitles:nil];
alert.alertViewStyle = UIAlertViewStylePlainTextInput;
[alert show];
and it's delegate method which returns what input of UItextField
-(void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex
{
NSLog(#"%#", [alertView textFieldAtIndex:0].text);
}
adding to answer from 'Shmidt', the code to capture text entered in UIAlertView is pasted below (thank you 'Wayne Hartman' Getting text from UIAlertView)
- (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex {
if (buttonIndex == 1) {
self.userNumber = [alertView textFieldAtIndex:0].text;
if (self.userNumber) {
// user enetered value
NSLog(#"self.userNumber: %#",self.userNumber);
} else {
NSLog(#"null");
}
}
}
refer this... http://iosdevelopertips.com/undocumented/alert-with-textfields.html this is private api and if you use it for app in appstore it might get rejected but it is fine for enterprise development.
How to create a pop up animation on iPhone? I want show my uiview as a popup view, like uialertview design.
- (void) killHUD
{
[alertView dismissWithClickedButtonIndex:0 animated:YES];
[alertView release];
alertView = nil;
}
- (void)presentSheet:(NSString *)message withFrame:(CGRect)frame
{
if(!alertView)
{
alertView = [[CustomAlertView alloc] initWithFrame:frame onView:self.window];
alertView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleBottomMargin;
[alertView setNeedsDisplay];
[alertView setText:message];
[alertView show];
}
}
You can use these functions creaed by me to show an hide the loading animation popup..
Happy Coding..
Hey guys, I'm having trouble obtaining the value/text from a AlertView TextField. Maybe someone can look at my code and see what I'm doing wrong. Every time I press OK, the label get's a (null) value. I must be missing something here.
TextFieldINAlertViewController.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface TextFieldInAlertViewController : UIViewController {
UITextField *myTextField;
IBOutlet UILabel *labelView;
NSString *FieldStr1;
}
#property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *FieldStr1;
#end
TextFieldInAlertViewController.m
#import "TextFieldInAlertViewController.h"
#implementation TextFieldInAlertViewController
#synthesize FieldStr1;
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Enter Name Here" message:#"blank" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:#"Dismiss" otherButtonTitles:#"OK!", nil];
UITextField *myTextField = [[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(12, 45, 260, 25)];
CGAffineTransform myTransform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, 60);
[alert setTransform:myTransform];
[myTextField setBackgroundColor:[UIColor whiteColor]];
[alert addSubview:myTextField];
[alert show];
[alert release];
}
-(void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alert clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)index
{
if (index == 0){
return;
}
if (index == 1){
FieldStr1 = myTextField.text;
labelView.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#" , FieldStr1 ];
}
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
}
- (void)viewDidUnload {
}
- (void)dealloc {
[super dealloc];
}
#end
myTextField is a local variable in viewDidLoad, but it's also a member variable in your class. Get rid of the local declaration, and you should be fine. Also, I'd move this code to viewDidAppear:, rather than viewDidLoad.
Since iOS5 you can use property on the alertView which is a much simplier way to add a textField.
If you want to add a TextField to an UIAlertView, you can use this property (alertViewStyle) for UIAlertView:
- (void)showAlert{
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Title" message:#"Message" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:#"Done" otherButtonTitles:nil];
alert.alertViewStyle = UIAlertViewStylePlainTextInput;
((UITextField *) [alertView textFieldAtIndex:0]).text = #"Default Value";
[alert show];
}
-(void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex{
NSLog(#"%#", [alertView textFieldAtIndex:0].text);
}
Check UIAlertView reference: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/uikit/reference/UIAlertView_Class/UIAlertView/UIAlertView.html
