This is a peculiar error that hasn't come up before. I'm using PPM in Windows to install modules for Perl. Works fine with tons of modules. But it seems like something is screwy with the Moose-2.000 package and I have no idea how to fix this.
To duplicate the error:
Install newest version of Activestate on windows machine
PPM into the cmd
search "moose"
mark Moose for install and install it
it says:
Moose marked for install
Installing package ...
Downloading Moose-2.0000 ... not found
Installing package failed
ERROR: 404 Not Found
I added virtually all the repos i could find but this seems to be coming from activestate's.
Forgive me, but I actually have no idea how to install a module manually (without the very simple GUI). I've downloaded the tar file, unzipped it and ran 'makefile.pl'. I copied the lib files to the /perl/site/lib folder.
Unfortunately, PPM expects a PPD wrapper (or something) so I can't do a command line install like "ppm install URL-of-package".
Can anyone attempt this and let me know if you have any luck? If not, please give a step by step on how to install this particular package. I'd be grateful since a bunch of other stuff (like a Twitter package) depends on it!

UDPATE:
ok it looks like v2.000 simply doesn't exist yet for Win32. so i was able to install v1.25 in the following workaround, explained in the activestate bugtracker (see comments)
Workaround:
1) Find the latest available version for your platform here:
http://ppm4.activestate.com/idx/MOO...MY.html
Mouse over the icons in the PPMX column to see the target platform and Perl
version.
2) Copy the URL of the .ppmx file
3) Use the URL as an argument to 'ppm install'. For example, for 5.12 Win x86:
ppm install
http://ppm4.activestate.com/MSWin32-x86/5.12/1200/D/DR/DROLSKY/Moose-1.25.ppmx
I can see same problem - it looks like quirk on ActiveState side. On their package index there is still only 1.25 available. Maybe just the changes are yet to be propaged to mirrors.
Edit: I recently upgraded to Moose 2.0001, which seems to be fixed. However I got conflict with Class-MOP that comes with ActivePerl 5.12. It turned out that Class::MOP and Moose has been merged together. Solution was to remove both Class-MOP and Moose prior installation:
ppm rem Class::MOP --force
ppm rem Class::MOP --area perl --force
ppm rem Moose --area perl --force
ppm inst Moose

I was using ubuntu 12.04 until 12.10 was released. I used ubuntu for software development and after installing 12.10, i noticed that the perl version (5.14) shipped with 12.10 does not include the Switch.pm module needed while building WebKiT-GTK.
Looking around on the internet i found few suggestions indicating that i should install something call p5-switch from something called ports. I have looked around and was not able to get this done. I am not a perl guy and have no idea where i can get this package.
Can someone please help me as to
1. Where to download the package for ubuntu 12.10
2. In case it is not a .deb, How do i install it.
OR
1. At least be able to downgrade the perl installation to something lower than 5.14

sudo apt-get install libswitch-perl
will install it for you.
"ports" is a *BSD packaging system of sorts, not what you should be looking for.
You can find what package has a particular perl module by going to packages.ubuntu.com, entering Module/Name.pm (in this case, Switch.pm) in the "Search the contents of packages" form and checking "packages that contain files whose names end with the keyword" and selecting the desired distribution, then making sure you ignore false hits like CGI/Switch.pm in the results. Debian has the identical search for its packages at packages.debian.org.
(Note that Switch.pm has serious limitations, was never really intended to be used in production, and should certainly not be used in new code.)
Do make sure you've checked properly that there isn't the Switch module available via apt. If it is available, that's the one you want.
No, then you've two options the longer, correct way and a shorter way that's not quite as clean.
1. Longer
Install cpanm and perlbrew with apt. The perlbrew tool lets you install a complete version of Perl from scratch in a separate directory. Set up a user for your webkit building, run perlbrew as that user, install your perl. Then, use cpanm to install required modules and you are done. A bit of googling will get you step-by-step examples of how to use these tools. If anything goes badly wrong, you can just delete all the files in that user's home directory and start again - all you waste is a little time.
The reason experienced Perl people prefer this is that it keeps the perl you want for webkit-gtk separate from your system perl that ubuntu's packages will expect to be unchanged from the one they ship.
2. Shorter
Install cpanm with apt. As root, run "cpanm Switch" and it will install the Switch.pm package and any dependencies. It will also upgrade any already installed packages it thinks it needs to. This last step is why this option isn't ideal. In the (rare) case when the update isn't compatible with something else on your system uninstalling is fiddly.
At first,I tried to use ppm and cpanm to install Tk module.But failed to download whth the reason which i don't konw(yet i can install image module) .So I tried another way.I downloaded the Tk-804.030 from the cpan website.And unpacked it.Then I type "perl makefile.pl" in the cmd, howerver, shit happens.There were so many errors.And i remenbered to read the README.txt, so i found the following which make me frustrated.
When you install ActivePerl, it provides patched C runtime as PerlCRT.dll
which it installs in the "system32" directory.
This needs "administrator" rights on NT.
It also provides the import library PerlCRT.lib, but this is installed
in an odd location e.g. C:\ActivePerl\lib\CORE\PerlCRT.lib
where it is not found by MakeMaker or VC++.I copied it to C:\VisualStudio\VC98\lib\PerlCRT.lib

I could not find the PerlCRT.dll and PerlCRT.lib in my computer, i googled and found PerlCRT.dll which could be downloaded, but i counld find PerlCRT.lib to download.i don't kown how to do it, i really need some help.It couldn't be better if you can tell me the whole installing procedure. ( I'm new to Perl, and I use Win7, visual studio 2012 and MinGW as well)
See PPM Tk info page, the distro fails to build on the current versions of ActiveState Perl for Windows. You can add the 3rd party Bribes repository, Tk is available there.
I am trying to install wxperl on strawberry. I can't install Alien::wxWidgets. I tried everything I can think of. Usually I get an error like this one:

I don't know what that means. I tried with wxWidgets v 2.8.12 and 2.9.3 and various options. I started with cpanm and later evoking perl Build.PL manually with all kinds of options.
I am on Windows 7 64 bit. I tried with 5.14.2 32bit and 64bit. I am pretty sure that my path has no other perl installation than the one I currently using.

It seems that even though the build process crashes with the error message above, Alien::wxWidgets has, in fact, been successfully made, and is ready to install.
Got the same error message building Alien::wxWidgets from SVN trunk. I ran 'build test' and the tests passed so I ran 'build install'. Wx compiled successfully, all tests passed. Padre editor compiled successfully, all tests passed, and it works well.
It is also possible to install via PPM in Strawberry perl:
ppm set repository wxPerl http://www.wxperl.co.uk/repo29 (for WxWidgets-2.9.4)
ppm install Alien::wxWidgets (version 0.61)
Unfortunately, the latest version of Padre editor requires Alien::wxWidgets 0.62, so building Alien::wxWidgets from source is necessary to make Padre from CPAN.
Alternately, you can use the Citrus Perl distribution created by Mark Dootson. One caveat, the version of Perl, 5.16.1, is not the latest, but it is more recent than DWIM Perl build of Strawberry Perl 5.14.2.1 RC.
I would recommend using the latest Strawberry Perl 5.16.3, or 5.14.4.1 for security reasons because it has a a fix for the rehashing flaw which could be used for denial of service attacks. Described here:

One idea is to install DWIM Perl, which is a Perl distribution which contains Strawberry preloaded with a whole lot of commonly used CPAN modules, and includes Alien::wxWidgets.
I tried:
cpan> i /xls2csv/
No objects found of any type for argument /xls2csv/
cpan> install xls2csv
Warning: Cannot install xls2csv, don't know what it is.
Try the command
i /xls2csv/
to find objects with matching identifiers.
I haven't had any problems installing registered modules, e.g.
cpan> install DateTime
It is just the xls2csv that is providing problems.

That did not seem to work, and I must install locally.
The indexes used by CPAN.pm are all module-oriented, so they don't see distributions that contain no modules. (xls2csv has only a script.) You can still install them by giving the full path (under authors/id) of the distribution, just as you would to install older or development versions of a distribution:
cpan> install K/KE/KEN/xls2csv-1.06.tar.gz
If you are using my cpan(1) command, you can also install whatever is in the current working directory by telling it to install ".".
% cpan .
That should trigger the normal CPAN.pm process for handling dependencies and so on. You should be able to do that in the CPAN.pm shell too.
If you want to fetch the file from a CPAN mirror, you can do it as ysth suggested. You give it the path under authors/id in the repository and CPAN.pm will find it for you. You're skipping the step where it looks in the PAUSE index because you've already given it the path to download.
It's a 5 year old script with few tests (7) none on a Mac, and one bug report (a year old). It appears to not have been updated since it was written so use this script with realistic expectations. In other words, don't be surprised if you can't get it to work.
I upgraded to Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex yesterday and suddenly some of the Perl modules that I installed (on the Hardy Heron) have all gone missing!
I get the usual "Can't locate module in #INC" error. Has any of the CPAN repositories changed or something for Intrepid? Google doesn't help at all.

The standard solution is to generate an "autobundle" with CPAN.pm before upgrading Perl. A search for autobundle yields links to a handful of existing SO questions discussing Perl module management and several that look like they should provide more information. The CPAN.pm manual touches on autobundle, but doesn't include much detail.
Since you've already upgraded Perl, one solution for installing your modules would be to generate an autobundle file and use the entries in the generated file as a guide to write a custom autobundle file with entries for your modules (only). The autobundle file format is just POD, so this should be easy to do.
In the future you should probably make it a habit to generate an autobundle before upgrading Perl. This is not a perfect solution, the autobundle will include entries for core modules that will have to be removed before actually building from it, but at least you'll have a snapshot of installed Perl modules so that you can get your Perl install fixed up after an upgrade.
Your Perl installation has changed from version 5.8 to 5.10. Since many of the modules you want are in perl-version-specific directories, you may want to re-install using the CPAN tools (e.g. the cpan command).
But since you're using Ubuntu, please keep in mind that many many CPAN libraries are also distributed through the Ubuntu package manager, and the CPAN packages install into a different place than Ubuntu installs them (this is transparent to the user, since both are in the #INC paths).
I recommend using the Ubuntu packages when they're available, because they will be updated by the package manager (APT) when new ones are released on the central package servers. The name format is slightly different. Here are two ways to install the same package, from different sources:
$ cpan List::MoreUtils # installs latest from CPAN
$ sudo apt-get install liblist-moreutils-perl # installs latest from Ubuntu universe
the advantage of the latter is that it will be updated by sudo apt-get update.

Before upgrading, you had Perl 5.8, now you have 5.10.
Probably /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.* is used instead of /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 since the Perl version has changed
