I am trying to document a Mirth channel with Connector Type: Database Reader. It has a SQL statement that it uses to read input to the Mirth channel. But then it has another box called On-Update SQL with more SQL code. Does that SQL run after the SQL input statement? What does the On-Update Statement do?
On-Update SQL should be used to update a record once it has been read so that it is not read again. For example, if your SQL statement is:
SELECT id, firstName, lastName FROM person WHERE status = 0;
Then should have the On-Update SQL as:
UPDATE person SET status = 1 WHERE id = ${id};
Notice that the ${id} variable is used. This would be replaced with the ID value selected in the original SQL statement. This allows you to update the same record that was selected.
You can use any of the columns in your UPDATE that you retrieve in your SELECT (ex. ${firstName}).

I have created very simple function in DB2oC as below, which has one UPDATE sql statement and one SELECT sql statement along with MODIFIES SQL DATA. But still I get the below error, though I have specified MODIFIES SQL DATA. I did GRANT ALL on that TEST table to my user id and also did GRANT EXECUTE ON FUNCTION to my user id on safe side. Can you please help to explain on what could be the issue?
I have simply invoked the function using SELECT statement like below:
SELECT TESTSCHEMA.MAIN_FUNCTION() FROM TABLE(VALUES(1));
SQL Error [38002]: User defined routine "TESTSCHEMA.MAIN_FUNCTION"
(specific name "SQL201211013006981") attempted to modify data but was
not defined as MODIFIES SQL DATA.. SQLCODE=-577, SQLSTATE=38002,
DRIVER=4.27.25
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION MAIN_FUNCTION()
RETURNS VARCHAR(20)
LANGUAGE SQL
MODIFIES SQL DATA
BEGIN
DECLARE val VARCHAR(20);
UPDATE TEST t SET t.CONTENT_TEXT = 'test value' WHERE t.ID = 1;
select CONTENT_TEXT into val from TEST where ID = 1;
return val;
end;
Appreciate your help.
For the modifies SQL data clause , the usage of the function is restricted on Db2-LUW.
These restrictions do not apply for user defined functions that do not modify data.
For your specific example, that UDF will operate when used as the sole expression on the right hand side of an assignment statement in a compound-SQL compiled statemnent.
For example:
create or replace variable my_result varchar(20) default null;
begin
set my_result = main_function();
end#
Consider using stored procedures to modify table contents, instead of user defined functions.
You could avoid using a function, and just use a single "change data statement"
SELECT CONTENT_TEXT
FROM NEW TABLE(
UPDATE TEST t
SET t.CONTENT_TEXT = 'test value'
WHERE t.ID = 1
)
A user can only modify the ST_ASSMT_NM and , CAN_DT columns in the ST_ASSMT_REF record. In our system, we keep history in the same table and we never really update a record, we just insert a new row to represent the updated record. As a result, the "active" record is the record with the greatest LAST_TS timestamp value for a VENDR_ID. To prevent the possibility of an update to columns that cannot be changed, I wrote the logical UPDATE so that it retrieves the non-changable values from the original record and copies them to the new one being created. For the fields that can be modified, I pass them as params,
INSERT INTO GSAS.ST_ASSMT_REF
(
VENDR_ID
,ST_ASSMT_NM
,ST_CD
,EFF_DT
,CAN_DT
,LAST_TS
,LAST_OPER_ID
)
SELECT
ORIG_ST_ASSMT_REF.VENDR_ID
,#ST_ASSMT_NM
,ORIG_ST_ASSMT_REF.ST_CD
,ORIG_ST_ASSMT_REF.EFF_DT
,#CAN_DT
,CURRENT TIMESTAMP
,#LAST_OPER_ID
FROM
(
SELECT
ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.VENDR_ID
,ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.ST_ASSMT_NM
,ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.ST_CD
,ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.EFF_DT
,ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.CAN_DT
,CURRENT TIMESTAMP
,ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.LAST_OPER_ID
FROM
G2YF.ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V --The view of only the most recent, active records
WHERE
ST_ASSMT_REF_ACTIVE_V.VENDR_ID = #VENDR_ID
) ORIG_ST_ASSMT_REF;
However, I am getting this error:
DB2 SP
:
ERROR [42610] [IBM][DB2] SQL0418N The statement was not processed because the statement contains an invalid use of one of the following: an untyped parameter marker, the DEFAULT keyword, or a null value.
It appears as though DB2 will not allow me to use a variable in a SELECT statement. For example, when I do this in TOAD for DB2:
select 1, #vendorId from SYSIBM.SYSDUMMY1
I get a popup dialog box. When I provide any string value, I get the same error.
I usually use SQL Server and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have an issue doing this but I am not sure how to handle it get.
Suggestions? I know that I could do this in two seperate commands, 1 query SELECT to retreive the original VALUES and then supply the returned values and the modified ones to the INSERT command, but I should be able to do thios in one. Why can't I?
As you mentioned in your comment, DB2 is really picky about data types, and it wants you to cast your variables into the right data types. Even if you are passing in NULLs, sometimes DB2 wants you to cast the NULL to the data type of the target column.
Here is another answer I have on the topic.
how to get data from a specific column in fire bird? something like.
select from rdb$relation_fields
where rdb$relation_name = 'table' and rdb$field_name = 'code'
Your question doesn't quite make sense to me - if you already know the table and field name (as you do in your example) then why not select directly from the table? Anyway, you can create SQL statement dynamically in PSQL as string and then execute it using EXECUTE STATEMENT. The EXECUTE BLOCK might also be of intrest, depends where and what exactly youre tring to achieve.
EDIT after reading the comment
So just build the SELECT statement at the client side, selecting the field currently selected in combobox. You don't mention the language you use but generaaly it something like
query.SQL := 'SELECT '+ comboField.Text +' FROM '+curTableName;
query.Open();
// read the resultset
I am have two fields in my table:
One is Primary key auto increment value and second is text value.
lets say: xyzId & xyz
So I can easily insert like this
insert into abcTable(xyz) Values('34')
After performing above query it must insert these information
xyzId=1 & xyz=34
and for retrieving I can retrieve like this
select xyzId from abcTable
But for this I have to write down two operation. Cant I retrieve in single/sub query ?
Thanks
If you are on SQL Server 2005 or later you can use the output clause to return the auto created id.
Try this:
insert into abcTable(xyz)
output inserted.xyzId
values('34')
I think you can't do an insert and a select in a single query.
You can use a Store Procedures to execute the two instructions as an atomic operation or you can build a query in code with the 2 instructions using ';' (semicolon) as a separator betwen instructions.
Anyway, for select identity values in SQL Server you must check ##IDENTITY, SCOPE_IDENTITY and IDENT_CURRENT. It's faster and cleaner than a select in the table.
Currently my development environment is using SQL server express 2008 r2 and VS2010 for my project development.
My question is like this by providing a scenario:
Development goal:
I develop window services something like data mining or data warehousing using .net C#.
That meant I have a two or more database involved.
my senario is like this:
I have a database with a table call SQL_Stored inside provided with a coloum name QueryToExec.
I first idea that get on my mind is written a stored procedure and i tried to came out a stored procedure name Extract_Sources with two parameter passed in thats ID and TableName.
My first step is to select out the sql need to be execute from table SQL_Stored. I tried to get the SQL by using a simple select statement such as:
Select Download_Sql As Query From SQL_Stored
Where ID=#ID AND TableName=#TableName
Is that possible to get the result or is there another way to do so?
My Second step is to excecute the Sql that i get from SQL_Stored Table.Is possible to
to execute the query that select on the following process of this particular stored proc?
Need to create a variable to store the sql ?
Thank you,Appreciate for you all help.Please don't hesitate to voice out my error or mistake because I can learn from it. Thank you.
PS_1:I am sorry for my poor English.
PS_2:I am new to stored procedure.

Try this:
DECLARE #download_sql VARCHAR(MAX)
Select
#download_sql = Download_Sql
From
SQL_Stored
Where
AreaID = #AreaID
AND TableName = #TableName
EXEC (#download_sql)
