How to get rid of VBA feature prompt that appears every time MS Word loads? - ms-word

I created a Word add-in that contains ribbon tab and some code to work with SharePoint sites. All working code including ribbon definition I placed in separate library that is shared between Word, Excel and PowerPoint add-ins.
For testing my solution I use trial versions of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Office Home and Business 2010. My Word add-in installs and works fine, but every time I open Word, I see the following notification: "The function you are attempting to run contains macros or content that requires macro language support." I need to press OK button three times for my add-in to load.
Is it possible to hide that notifications without having to install "Visual Basic for Applications" feature for MS Office?
There is no such problem in Excel or PowerPoint.

I suggest you check your security level for macros. The setting is different for each office application. On the lowest setting, no prompts will be shown.

Can you auto-run a custom functions add-in, or dynamically run it from a different add-in (same domain)?

TL;DR - By default, a custom functions add-in registered with Excel is available, but not running, when Excel loads. It only gets run if one of its custom functions is used (or if it has a task pane and the user opens it). Is there any way to auto-run it or trigger running it from a different add-in (in the same domain) that is running?
Details:
We have multiple custom functions add-ins: a "main" one everyone has and a few other optional ones providing sets of functions appropriate to different job roles, controlled by Active Directory membership. They use the shared runtime. Each add-in has a task pane (though the users rarely open them).
Sometimes, code in a custom function in one of the non-"main" add-ins needs to show a warning message to the user (not as its return value). Since they have task panes, we could have functions in each add-in show warnings by showing their task pane (showAsTaskpane) and putting the messages there. But there are cross-cutting warnings we would prefer to only show in the "main" add-in's task pane rather than having them show up willy-nilly here and there. That's not a problem when the "main" add-in is loaded in memory and running; we can use a BroadcastChannel to send messages to it. But if it happens that none of the functions in that "main" add-in have been used (yet) and the user hasn't opened its task pane, that add-in isn't loaded/running, so we can't send messages to it.
Is there any way to get that add-in running in that situation? Whether by auto-running it on load (I don't see anything in the manifest reference for that), or by having the custom function in the other add-in dynamically tell Excel to run the "main" add-in?
For your question: "Is there any way to auto-run it or trigger running it from a different add-in (in the same domain) that is running?"
I think the answer is no.
Not sure whether helpful, I'd like to provide you with a doc link of auto-open feature. After setting your add-in auto-open, your add-in task pane can open automatically if the add-in is already installed on the user's device.

Remove 'uploaded' add-in Word Online

I’m preparing some ‘tutorial’ videos and have probably a stupid question that I'm just overlooking the answer.
I’m following the steps on starter:
https://dev.office.com/getting-started/addins?product=word
with the option “Other Tools”
This all works fairly straight forward, ending with adding the generated AddIn to Word Online:
My question is though …. How do you get rid of the just added Show Taskpane again?
I can’t imagine it to be very hard, but I just don’t see the option anywhere in Word Online, to clean up again and remove the add-in to get a clean slate for the next video….
localStorage.clear();
sessionStorage.clear();
There is no UI for it unfortunately. You need to clear your local storage. Here is an example for IE, run it on the JavaScript console (F12 tools). Then reload the page with Ctrl + F5.
Just an update here. You can right click the add-in command and select Remove Add-in.
This capability is available for add-ins acquired from the in client Office Store or via App Source.
If an add-in is centrally deployed, in Outlook, you can configure add-ins so a user can right click and remove the add-in if they don't want it.
For people coming here from google:
If you tested your javascript add-ins locally you can remove those add-ins in MS Word by going File-Options-Trust Center-Trust Center Settings...-Trusted Add-In Catalogs and click 'Clear'.

I want to disable Microsoft Office word temporary on my machine

I have an application which uses Office Word on particular click. I need to see behavior when word is not installed on my machine. Can we replicate this by doing some settings as I do not want to uninstall word.
Go to the control panel. Navigate to add or remove programs. Click on "Microsoft Office..." (version information will be in place of ellipsis). Click "Change" then when the dialog box appears for the Change process click the "Add or Remove Features" then Next then disable Microsoft Word and continue through the process. To re-enable go back through the process and enable Microsoft Word.
I recently needed to do this to test a new process on machine with MS Word and without MS Word. This way is much faster than installing or copying your test code to a different machine that does not have MS Word installed.

Can't activate Visio 2013 MSDN

I have an MSDN subscription and I've installed Visio 2013. I am not able to activate the product and it has reduced to a read-only state.
Any attempts to activate or "Switch Account" are met with "Sorry, we are having some temporary server issues." I've found a few posts referencing removing an office-related key from the registry but this has not helped.
At one point I believe I'd also heard that our network might be blocking activation, but don't have a handle on how that would be coming into play exactly (if at all).
Have others encountered and (hopefully) found a fix to this issue?
Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Microsoft Visio Professional 2013
Right click on Microsoft Visio Professional 2013 and click on "Change"
Then select "Enter a Product Key" and supply your 25 digit licence key to activate.
Here is a little more detail on the Control Panel/Programs and Features method for entering product codes.
This worked with Office 2010 previously installed and then a later Visio 2013 Pro installation that didn't provide the activation dialog.
In Programs and Features
Right click Microsoft Visio Professional 2013
You'll see Uninstall (default) and Change. Select Change
You'll get a dialog with these options
Add or Remove Features
Repair
Remove
Enter a Product Key (voila!)
Select Product Key and the rest goes as expected.
Footnote: I spend 45 minutes in six conversations with four different Microsoft support teams trying to fix this. None knew how to address the issue.
I had the same problem. To activate I had to go to "Control Panel\Programs and Features\Microsoft Visio Professional 2013" and choose the "repair" option; you will be asked to insert your product key. Now my Visio is activated and I can create new diagrams, but I continue having problems using online options.
If your system is an offline computer, you will need to call the MS Support Center and give them your code which shows on your screen. Then in return enter the long string of digits they give you back.

Readings for Microsoft Office word

I want to know why does Microsoft word don't allow multiple instance of a file. Say i have opened something.doc, once it has opened then i clicked the file something.doc again it doesn't open another instance but opens the existing instance of the file. I would love to have a concrete reading material about this. Can anyone provide? thanks a lot!
Doesn't seem like an issue to me but just a settings problem as illustrated on some forumns. Try doing the below hack which if for Office 2007:
My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
File Types
Choose XLS
Go to Advanced
Uncheck "browse in same window" in advanced window.
Then highlight Open
Edit
Make sure in the Action box it says &Open
Make sure in the application used to perform action it says:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE" "%1"
Check the box next to use DDE
Remove anything that is in DDE Message box and DDE Application Not Running box.
Make sure the application box says: EXCEL
And in the Topic box it says: System
