In Xcode4, the new interface builder says "no selection" - iphone

I am using the xcode 4.02 for iPhone programming. In the new interface builder, when I click a button (or any other GUI-element) and go to the "attributes inspector" it says "no selection". For a while I thought I could solve the problem by saving the nib-file, but it does not always work.
How can I solve this problem?

There seems to be a bug in Attributes Inspector in Xcode 4. When this happens to me I usually do this:
Switch to another (non IB) file in the current tab
Launch a new Tab (cmd T)
Open the original IB file in this new tab
The Attributes Inspector will magically show in the new tab.

I just had to close the assistant editor and the debug area and then it magically showed up. If you don't have the assistant editor open then all you need to do is open it, then close it again. That should fix it too.
If you don't know what the assistant editor is I have highlighted it in red:
Xcode 7.2

Do you open the inspector window by clicking the 3 button in the views group? Once you do that the attribute inspector is shown on the left and you can now open the nib files and select any gui element.

Does it work if you click the GUI element after making the attributes inspector visible?

VSCode "Open Editors" panel not showing

I don't know what I have done but I cannot see the "Open Editors" panel in the Explorer view
I note also that clicking on the three dots (Views and More Actions...) to the right of the word Explorer at the top of the explorer panel the word Folders is greyed out
Can anyone point me to the setting I need to change in order to rectify this situation?
Just in case anyone else has the same problem here is how I resolved my issue. I won't bore you with how I discovered the solution.
Right-click in the activity bar, this will bring up a context menu with the entry for Open Editors listed but not marked with a tick
Activity bar context menu.
Clicking on "Open Editors" in this context menu brings up a new icon in the activity bar that looks like an open book
Open Editor icon
Right-clicking on this new icon reveals another context menu that includes the option to reset the location of the Open Editors panel.
Open Editor context menu
Selecting this option resolves the problem.
How I got into the problem in the first place is still difficult to ascertain. With the activity bar in its default configuration I must have dragged the "Open Editors" header to somewhere on the activity bar, that clearly removes it from the Explorer side bar but how I inadvertently right clicked this new icon and selected "Hide 'Open Editors'" without realising remains a mystery.
Go to view and click on Open View and the on Open Editors.
3 dots on extreme right hand side has an option - keep editors open --> set it to default view. Once done the open editor will be be visible on the left.
This is considering you have default vs code layout...
I am currently using version: 1.68.1
In VS Code, go to Settings and in the search box, type explorer.openEditors.visible. Set the value in the dialogue box to any number greater than 0 and you are good to go. Refer to the image below.

How assistant model works in swift?

I build a new class called StaticCellTableViewController. Now I want to connect some element from the Main.storyboard to it. But I can't have these two windows side by side.
I go the StaticCellTableViewController and click assistant. It gives me two StaticCellTableViewController windows.
I try to click assistant in the Main.storyboard window. It gives me another class like this.
But I want the Main.storyboard window and the StaticCellTableViewController class side by side so I can drag elements to it. How can I do that?
You do not need Assistant any more. Don’t use it. Editor panes can now contain anything.
So open two normal editor panes. Click in one pane. Click your view controller in the navigator. Click in the other pane. Click your storyboard in the navigator. Done.

I can't close the Inspector window in unity3d. The Close Tab option is disabled. What can i do?

I played around with the windows Game, Scene, Hierarchy...Then the Inspector is all over the editor and i don't have the Close Tab option. I tried to close and load the unity editor again but it didn't help. Once i'm loading the project or the scene file i'm getting: I also tried to create a new complete project but still what i see is this:
See the Layout dropdown at the top right of the window (right below the X close button)? Click it, select "Defaut", there you go.

No options for autoresizing window in size inspector (XCode 4.5.2)

in XCode 4.5.2, when I created a new XIB file, I don't get an options to use the auto-resizing window in the size inspector (on the right hand side). But if I use old Xib files, that was created in another project, I can see the auto-resizing options.
What I am seeing now:
But I want to see/ have an options like the following image:
I am using XCode 4.5.2
How can I have auto resizing options ? Thanks in advance.
In Xcode, go to File Inspector window just uncheck checkbox given for "Use Autolayout" and switch to Size inspector you will see autoresizing window there.

How can I enable vertical split views in the Xcode IDE?

I'm diving into iOS development and I'm using Xcode on a multi-monitor setup.
Obviously I want to take advantage of the multiple monitors to view and edit multiple panes of source code, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to enable vertical split views. In other IDEs, it's just an option you click in the "Window" menu.
How do I enable vertical split views in Xcode?
Xcode 4
Check out the options in the Navigate file menu item. I like Command+J. Also, while the Editor is active, i.e., you're editing code or your cursor is blinking in the Editor, press Command+Option+,. Or, you can Option-click (or Option+Shift-click) a file in the Navigator. Then, to make more room for editing, I like to press Command+0 to hide the Navigator and, if they're not already hidden, Command+Option+0 to hide the Utilities. Press Command+Enter to go back to the Standard Editor view.
Xcode 3
Hold down alt and click the little tiny box (with a horizontal line through it) in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen. It's underneath the tiny little lock icon.
Xcode 9 for those coming from a search engine:
Click and hold on the Assistant Editor button for an options menu. Choosing "Assistant Editors on Right" will cause the view to be split vertically.
This has changed in Xcode 12, maybe earlier. All my Option-Clicks go to open second view appearing below rather than size by side. The solution is to go to Views -> Change Editor Orientation

Command+J --------Check out the options in the Navigate file menu item
Command+Option+,------editing code or your cursor is blinking in the Editor
Option-click (or Option+Shift-click)------open a file in the Navigator
Command+Enter----------reset
Use the dropdown on the split icon to choose between different views
For Xcode 14 you just have to click this icon:
