I am trying to place a UIButton with an image above my UITabBar.
I added this code in my applicationDidFinishLaunching method, but I'm getting some errors with tabBar being unrecognized.
I've built the TabBarController and NavController all in IB.

Can you post your code of the outlets and properties in the .h file?
Is it possible that you made them in your main ViewController? Because applicationDidFinishLaunching is a appDelegate method and you normally shouldn't do UI things there, just in the viewControllers.
applicationDidFinishLaunching is not the appropriate place to put such a method. Use viewDidLoad or viewWillAppear instead.
It seems you are following this blog post http://idevrecipes.com/2010/12/16/raised-center-tab-bar-button/ to create custom TabBar but you are not following it properly. What you are doing is adding button as subview to normal viewController's View while you need to add the button to TabBar's View. Try to add button when your tabBarContoller is going to display. Like if you are removing navigation Controller's View from mainWindow and adding tabBarController's view there then before adding tabBarController's view to window add your button to tabBarController's tabBar.view so your code will look like this
[tabBarController.tabBar.view addSubview:yourButton];
[window addSubView:tabBarController.view];

Use this code instead...

You need to set scroll view contents size, something like the following code.
[self.mainScroll setContentSize:CGSizeMake(width, height)];

In my ViewDidLoad Method, I have this:

The action does go through and I do receive my NSLog method. Does anyone know why this is happening? The Left Bar Button always shows up and if I change the the first barbutton to rightbarbuttonitem and change the barbutton2 to leftbarbutton item, and then change the CGRect coords, it works, and that's what I'm using right now to get it to work, but why is this happening? You don't see the right button because you are drawing it outside the screen.
The button2 X coordinate is set to 281.0 and its parent view X coordinate is also set at 281.0. As a result your button is in x = 562, meaning it is outside the screen.
Set your button2 X coordinate to 0 and see if that helps:
button2.frame= CGRectMake(0.0, 5.0, image2.size.width, image2.size.height);
You seem to be creating a new view with each action and adding a button. So, you never see both buttons. You will need to access the same view in both the actions to make sure you add two button subviews.
I have a custom bar button item that I want to nudge down 5 pixels. How would I go about doing that witht the following code. I tried to set the "y" point but keep getting syntax errors.

A UIBarButton item doesn't inherit from UIView so doesn't have a "frame" property that you can adjust directly so you need to use a different method.
Try:

I have subview which it initiated by touch on the UIbutton in the main view.
Once the subview pops up it displays a label with the info I provided. This all works. I just need an UIbutton to show up so I can then set it up to dismiss the subview and go back to the main view. i have searched all over and have found nothing that helps.
Here is what my code in my .m file looks like:

First Take IBOutlet of subView and add it to the main View.

Then, add UIButton to the SubView like this:

In Above Method Remove SubView from Main View.
If you're simply looking to set an image for a UIButton instead of a title, you're looking for the - (void)setImage:(UIImage *)image forState:(UIControlState)statemethod.
You should check the UIButton reference for more info.

First, make sure the initWithFrame: method is being called. If your view is in a Nib, initWithCoder: is being called instead.
Second, is the button the only subview (from your code it looks like it is, but you never know). The button could be hidden behind another subview. Call bringSubviewToFront: if you need to.
Finally, is the view itself visible? Is it big enough to show the button? Given your example, if the view is less than 100 pixels wide, the button won't show because it will get clipped by the view's bounds.
You must release btn and remove ":" in buttonClick:

You don't need to retain the UIButton because it is retained by [self.view addSubview:btn];
First check whether your code is executing the initwithFrame method.
Because if you are loading the view from nib i.e using
NSArray *xibviews = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed: #"MySubview" owner: mySubview options: NULL];
MySubview *msView = [xibviews objectAtIndex: 0];
[self.view addSubview:msView];
Then the initWithFrame part will not be executing.So please check once.
