I do not want my app users to know who else uses the application. Can i hide it so that it doesn't show in the search and can only be accessed with invitation.
There is an option in the application settings that is called "Social Discovery". Set it to "Off". The application also won't show up in the search if you haven't opted to adding it to the search. However if you the app installed, it will show up in the search for you.

I am integrating Intercom into my website, but when a user loads the page, the chat window automatically opens up. I have gone through their documentation, adding things like Intercom('hide'), turning off and removing auto messaging, etc, but the messenger still opens up. I have reached out to their customer support (on their own chat app) and no one has responded back or reached out. Kind of bad UX to have it open without anyone clicking the chat button. Anyone know how to disable this feature?
The answer is in one of their guides Customize the Intercom Messenger (technical) rather than the technical documentation:
First, you’ll need to hide the Messenger for all of your customers. Just visit your Messenger settings and deselect the options for turning the Messenger on.
Next, you’ll need to think about which users you’d like to show the Messenger to (for example, your VIP customers).
Finally, add the hide_default_launcher attribute to your intercomSettings object on your site. The value of thehide_default_launcher attribute should be true or false, depending on if you want to hide or show the launcher.
So hide_default_launcher is the key.
You can go to App Settings > Messenger Settings section and blank Welcome Message:
click to open an image
I'm wondering how to hide a Facebook tab from a published fanpage while the tab is under development, so that it only appears for page Admins?
I know you can do this for custom built apps (the sandbox setting), but here I'm not referring to a custom built app, but prebuilt apps like Static HTML.
In order to edit tabs it seems that they have to be added to the page, in order to be able to edit them. That's a problem when customizing a Facebook tab, as you don't want your fans to see your work-in-progress content until it's ready to be published.
Any one who has experience with this?
You could show it only when an admin is logged in by checking the session.
I can't help you more because there is too few information of what you're using..
I'm developing a FB page tab app, and I want to provide my client a URL for testing the app. I don't have a page specifically for this app, nor do I want to create one - the test versions of the app should remain private. What is the normal process for testing page tab apps privately in this manner?
Try this:
Go to your application: developers.facebook.com/apps
open your app, on left side there is a section called advanced (settings->advanced),
just click on that and you will find create a facebook page option,
you can create a facebook page and after creating,
you can set setting for publish or unpublish.
You have to enable the Sandbox Mode in your app settings.
If you want to give other users access to the app, you need to add them as developers or testers in the Roles settings.
I a have a facebook app, however it does not show up in the Apps listing at all (of users who have already approved the permissions). How do I make my App show up as an "App" so users can add it to there sidebar? Is there a way to prompt users to make my App one of their favorites?
First question: Why is my App not showing up at all as an App?
Second Question: How can I get my App placed on a user's side bar, in the "Apps" panel list?

First: Since July 2010 bookmarks are added automatically for apps a user has interacted with there is no facility to manually add bookmarks (look here and also
look here under Bookmarks for quick re-engagement)
Second: I remember that I managed once to have the bookmark automatically added using an authentication process like desribed in the update of this question. However I'm not sure whether this will work for your app.
I have successfully created a Facebook application. I have successfully added the application to my Facebook "Page". After I do this, no link for the app shows up in the menu on the left. This seems like something that should be simple to do, yet I can't find any documentation that is up-to-date. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Configure the Page Tab settings in your application settings under Facebook Integration.
Go to the developer page where you get the list of your apps.
Click on the more link next to your app, and choose Application profile.
Once you are on the app profile, on the sidebar menu click on Add to my page and choose the page where you want to add the tab.
Note that you must have your app tab configured properly inside your app configuration in order to get this to work i.e. setting the correct domain and tab file.
If you are logged in as the page, I suggest you either creating a profile ID and log in as it, or the solution that #ifaour pointed out, although it will be difficult to find your app inside the search engine that FB provides.
