I am trying to have a UIView slide up a quarter of the page to reveal another view underneath it (to display options), and then slide back down to cover those options. I've searched SO relentlessly but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I do not want to use a modalview as I want to maintain the top view on the screen. In the code below, I have it sort-of working, the top level slides up, but then completely disappears (fades) out.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
HomeOptionsViewController *homeOptionsViewController = [[HomeOptionsViewController alloc]
initWithNibName:#"HomeOptionsViewController"
bundle:nil];
// get the view that's currently showing
UIView *currentView = self.view;
// get the the underlying UIWindow, or the view containing the current view
UIView *theWindow = [currentView superview];
UIView *newView = homeOptionsViewController.view;
//newView.frame = CGRectMake(0,300, 320,140);
newView.frame = CGRectMake(0,-10, 320,140);
// remove the current view and replace with myView1
//---[currentView removeFromSuperview];
[theWindow addSubview:newView];
theWindow.frame = CGRectMake(0,-110,320,200);
newView.frame = theWindow.bounds;
// set up an animation for the transition between the views
CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation];
[animation setDuration:0.5];
[animation setType:kCATransitionPush];
[animation setSubtype:kCATransitionFromTop];
[animation setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]];
//[theWindow setFrame:CGRectMake(0,200,320,300)];
[[theWindow layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:#"SwitchToView1"];
Any reason why you're not using standard UIView animations? CATransitions will entirely change the view because its supposed to be a transition from one view to the other.
Have you tried something like this? You add the view you want to slide just off the bottom of the screen, then animate both frames changing. It creates a slide up effect.
newView.frame = CGRectMake(0,416,320,140);
[theWindow addSubview:newView];
[UIView beginAnimations:#"SwitchToView1" context:nil];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5];
theWindow.frame = CGRectOffset(theWindow.frame, 0, -140);
newView.frame = CGRectOffset(newView.frame, 0, -140);
[UIView commitAnimations];

anyone know how to implement something like a viewController no full screen just like when we tap in search in the iPhone ?
I want that when the user make an swipe up a viewController (half height) be showed.
No segue !! I would like that the old view controller be showed at the same time.
Thanks in advance
I Add this type of functionality for whole project, i add the QRView in window so user swip up the view from any view of project...
See the Example of my code..
Just set the UISwipeGestureRecognizer to your second view which you want to present like bellow...
CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation];
[animation setDelegate:self];
[animation setType:kCATransitionFade];
[animation setDuration:0.5];
[animation setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:
kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]];
[[self.view layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:kAnimationKey];
UISwipeGestureRecognizer *swipeGesture = [[[UISwipeGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:#selector(addCustomBottomBar)] autorelease];
swipeGesture.numberOfTouchesRequired = 1;
swipeGesture.direction = (UISwipeGestureRecognizerDirectionDown);
[yourViewController.view addGestureRecognizer:swipeGesture];/// use your view name here, its depends on your requirement
UISwipeGestureRecognizer *swipeGestureTop = [[[UISwipeGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:#selector(addCustomBottomBar)] autorelease];
swipeGestureTop.numberOfTouchesRequired = 1;
swipeGestureTop.direction = (UISwipeGestureRecognizerDirectionUp);
[yourViewController.view addGestureRecognizer:swipeGestureTop];
and this bellow method called when you swipe up view...
Also just add one BOOL variable with name isViewPop and set it to NO in your viewDidLoad: method ..
-(void)addCustomBottomBar{
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5];
[UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionNone forView:self.window cache:YES];
if (isqrcodepop) {
isViewPop=NO;
yourViewController.view.frame=CGRectMake(0, 430, 320, 70);
}
else{
isViewPop=YES;
yourViewController.view.frame=CGRectMake(0, 210, 320, 270);
[self.view bringSubviewToFront:yourViewController.view];
}
[UIView commitAnimations];
}
i hope this answer helpful for you...
If it is something simple I would add a UIView to your UIViewController just below the bottom-- then when you hit 'Search' or whatever, animate that UIView up in view with an animation block:
- (IBAction)btnTouch:(id)sender
{
[UIView animateWithDuration:0.3
delay:0.0
options: UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut
animations:^{
//bring searchView up
_searchView.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, -80);
}
completion:^(BOOL finished){
}
];
}
Then when you are done, push the view back to its origin by using the same animation block with this line instead:
_searchView.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, 0);
You could have the background view controller [self presentViewController:vc animated:YES completion:nil]; and set your front view controller's frame to half of the screen. This way, since bottom half of the front view is transparent, your background view controller will still be visible
I have my main view, and when a user taps a 'Show' button I want two things to happen:
Fade in a black UIView with alpha 0.5 covering the entire parent
view. I'll refer to this as darkenBackground
Slide the view of a second view controller
(self.secondViewController.view) on top of darkenBackground
When a user is finished, they tap 'Done' and the following happens:
darkenBackground fades out and is removed from the superview.
self.secondViewController.view slides out of the screen in the
bottom direction and is removed from the superview.
All animations working simultaneously.
So far, I've been able to achieve the first part (sort-of), transition-in. This works fine. But when the user taps 'Done' the transition-out does not work as required. The problems I'm faced with are:
darkenBackground and self.secondViewController.view fade out and are removed, but
self.secondViewController.view wasn't supposed to fade out! I tried animating only the second view but it simply disappears without animation.
When a user taps 'Show' for a second time
(transition-in), the view from the previous transition
appears before the animation takes place. It doesn't look like it
was removed from the superview previously.
Here is my code:
When a user taps 'Show':
- (IBAction)showSecondView {
darkenBackground = [[UIView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)];
[darkenBackground setBackgroundColor:[UIColor blackColor]];
[darkenBackground setAlpha:0.5];
self.secondViewController.view.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460);
self.secondViewController.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
[CATransaction begin];
CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation];
[animation setDuration:0.5];
[animation setType:kCATransitionFade];
CATransition *animation2 = [CATransition animation];
[animation2 setDuration:0.5];
[animation2 setType:kCATransitionMoveIn];
[animation2 setSubtype:kCATransitionFromTop];
[animation2 setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]];
[self.view addSubview:darkenBackground];
[self.view addSubview:self.secondViewController.view];
[[self.view layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:#"darkenBkgFadeIn"];
[[self.secondViewController.view layer] addAnimation:animation2 forKey:#"ShowSecondView"];
[CATransaction commit];
}
When a user taps 'Done' (A function defined in the secondViewController.m class where it refers to the main view controller variables through delegate):
- (IBAction)hideSecondView {
[CATransaction begin];
CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation];
[animation setDuration:0.5];
[animation setType:kCATransitionFade];
CATransition *animation2 = [CATransition animation];
[animation2 setDuration:0.5];
[animation2 setType:kCATransitionPush];
[animation2 setSubtype:kCATransitionFromBottom];
[animation2 setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]];
[self.myParentController.darkenBackground removeFromSuperview];
[self.myParentController.secondViewController.view removeFromSuperview];
[[self.myParentController.view layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:#"darkenBkgFadeOut"];
[[self.myParentController.secondViewController.view layer] addAnimation:animation2 forKey:#"RemoveSecondView"];
[CATransaction commit];
}
Ultimately I want to show the view in the same way that the TWTweetComposeViewController modal view appears, where the background darkens and the controller appears. I could just use a modal view controller, but the issue I have with that is that when presenting the view controller it only 'appears' and does not slide from the bottom (since I require a semi-transparent background, I cannot use the default context for the modal view).
Cannot figure this one out, would appreciate some guidance.
I assume that self.myParentController.view used in -hideSecondView is the same view as self.view in -showSecondView. If this is the case, then you're applying a transition to the whole view here:
[[self.myParentController.view layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:#"darkenBkgFadeOut"];
You added self.secondViewController.view as a subview of self.view in -showSecondView, so when you later perform a transition on self.myParentController.view, it's going to apply the transition to all its subviews (i.e., self.secondViewController.view) as well.
Instead of applying the transition to self.myParentController.view in -hideSecondView, apply it directly to darkenBackground:
[[self.myParentController.darkenBackground layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:#"darkenBkgFadeOut"];
If I recall correctly, you can apply CATransitions when layers are added/removed to/from a view. If not, then you'll have to wrap darkenBackground in a separate container view and perform the transitions on that so it doesn't include self.secondViewController.view when you do the fade out.
I am using the following code to switch between views with CATransition.
CATransition *applicationLoadViewIn = [CATransition animation];
[applicationLoadViewIn setDuration:20];
[applicationLoadViewIn setType:kCATransitionPush];
[applicationLoadViewIn setSubtype:kCATransitionFromTop];
[applicationLoadViewIn setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseIn]];
ViewToSwitchTo *myviewcontroller = [[ViewToSwitchTo alloc] init];
[self.view.layer addAnimation:applicationLoadViewIn forKey:kCATransitionPush];
[self.view addSubview:myviewcontroller.view];
It functions mostly how I want it to. It pushes from the top like it should, however it for some reason acts strangely. First, the view I am switching to starts coming in from the bottom like it should, but for some reason, the view that I am switching FROM appears over the top of it with low opacity, so you see both of them. However, you also see the view that is coming in, shifted maybe 100 pixels upwards, on top of itself and the other view, once again with low opacity. Just before the halfway point of the the transition, everything works fine, you only see the view that is coming in and the view going out, doing what they should be doing. But slightly after the halfway point, the view I am switching to appears in its final destination, under the view I am switching from, and the view I am switching from has been reduced in opacity.
What is going on here?
I really not understand what you want but hope this code will help to implement ,if not then tell more about you CATransition
-(void) startAnimation {
fullImageView.alpha = 0.50;
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:2.0];
[UIView setAnimationRepeatCount:1];
[UIView setAnimationRepeatAutoreverses:NO];
[UIView setAnimationDelegate:self];
[UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:#selector(pulseAnimationDidStop:finished:context:)];
fullImageView.alpha = 1.0;
[UIView commitAnimations];
}
- (void)pulseAnimationDidStop:(NSString *)animationID finished:(NSNumber *)finished context:(void *)context {
if(hasFocus) {
[self startAnimation];
} else {
fullImageView.alpha = 1.0;
}
}
-(void) setHasFocus:(BOOL)_hasFocus {
hasFocus = _hasFocus;
if(hasFocus) {
[self startAnimation];
}
}
You can use this way as well
CATransition *applicationLoadViewIn = [CATransition animation];
[applicationLoadViewIn setDuration:1.5];
[applicationLoadViewIn setType:kCATransitionPush];
[applicationLoadViewIn setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseIn]];
//[applicationLoadViewIn setRepeatCount:114];
productVC=[[PoductViewController alloc]initWithNibName:#"PoductViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]];
[[productVC.view layer] addAnimation:applicationLoadViewIn forKey:kCATransitionPush];
[self.view addSubview:productVC.view];
But I suggest you to use Navigation Controller in place of
[self.view addSubview:productVC.view];
just use
[self.navigationController pushViewController:productVC animated:YES];
If you use this, there will be no background view, you will see white screen of the present view. But if you add subview, then you need to manually remove subview.

iPhone CATransition adds a fade to the start and end of any animation?
I'm trying to duplicate the "slide up from the bottom" animation that [UIViewController presentModalViewController:animated:] performs but without calling it because I don't want a modal view.
The below core animation code comes very close but appears to be changing transparency values of the views during it. At the start of the animation you can partially see through the view sliding up. By the middle/end of the animation the view we are sliding over is fully transparent so we can see behind it. I'd like both to remain fully opaque during this animation.
Any ideas on how to stop transparency changes in this code or to otherwise get the "slide up animation" I am looking for without requiring a modal view?
UIViewController *nextViewController = [[UIViewController alloc] autorelease];
nextViewController.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation];
animation.duration = 3.5;
animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut];
animation.type = kCATransitionPush;
animation.subtype = kCATransitionFromTop;
[self.navigationController pushViewController:nextViewController animated:NO];
[self.navigationController.view.layer addAnimation:animation forKey:nil];
The simplest method is to simply use UIView beginAnimations/commitAnimations block. You can adjust the duration and curve by reviewing the docs.
{
// Adjust for orientation as necessary.
view.frame = CGRectMake(0,
-480,
320,
480);
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil];
view.frame = CGRectMake(view.frame.origin.x,
0,
view.frame.size.width,
view.frame.size.height);
[UIView commitAnimations];
}
Docs here:

Instead of the CATransition, you could instead try using a CABasicAnimation that animates the position from off the top of the screen into the desired position.
I can animate the addition of a UIView to my app, it looks very pretty so thank you apple.
However, how do I animate the removal of this view from the super view?
I'm using:
CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation];
[animation setDuration:1];
[animation setType:kCATransitionReveal];
[animation setTimingFunction:[CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseIn]];
[[myview layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:kCATransitionReveal];
to animate the "in" transition ... how do you animate the "out" transition????
Animate your view so it moves offscreen/shrinks/expands/fades, then do the actual removal when the animation ends.
You can do this by altering the properties of the view (position/size/offset) between a beginAnimations/commitAnimations block. UIKit will then animate these properties over the time specified.
E.g something like;
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:0.30f];
view.transform =
CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(
view.frame.origin.x,
480.0f + (view.frame.size.height/2) // move the whole view offscreen
);
background.alpha = 0; // also fade to transparent
[UIView commitAnimations];
In the animation end notification you can then remove the view.
