I've an Intel mac machine with Lion installed on it. I've downloaded Xcode 3 from here on it but when I start the Xcode I couldn't find any of iPhone project templates. I just found the Mac templates.
Xcode 3 ?? Have you tried downloading and installing xcode 4 ? Free in the mac app store ...
Also make sure you have downloaded and install the iOS SDK ...

I got a working mac os lion 10.7.2 system, and I don't want to upgrade to mountain lion so I can begin ios 6 development. Which Xcode version should I install so I can get ios 6 set up to work? My current Xcode is 4.2, how to install ios 6 sdk and simulator in it?
To do iOS 6 development you need Xcode 4.5. It should still work on Lion and can be installed through the Mac App Store. The iOS 6 SDK and Simulator will be automatically installed with it.

If You have the developer account then download the latest version of xcode with it's .dmg file and also you find the older version of the xcode i would prefer to instal new version of the xcode 4.5 to building the IOS 6 Application.

Here to download the versions of the xcode
I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard on my macbook. In my macbook I had iOS SDK 4.3 and Xcode 4.2. Now I am downloading Xcode 4.4 for Mountain Lion.
In my iMac I have OSX Lion and it has iOS 5.1 SDK with Xcode 4.3.
What I want to know is should I download again iOS SDK 5.1 for my macbook? OR could I copy Developer folder from my iMac to macbook?
You can copy the downloaded App file that you used to install the SDK. The app file can then be run on different Mac systems.
You can't separate them, so you will end up downloading it anyway. No need to copy it from your other computer.
I need to download and install xcode. But i need to know the version of xCode that i need to install on a Mac 10.7.2. Event the link says that i am capable of installing xcode 4.3.2, i herd that it crashes.
So what is the stable version of xcode that i could install on 10.7.2 ?
Xcode is available in app store, you don't have to go to iOS dev center to download it.
Xcode 4.3 is required for building on iOS devices running 5.1. Xcode 4.3 appears to be very stable, I have not had any issues with it whatsoever. Just search for "Xcode" in the Mac App Store, and you can download it from there.

ios 5.1 with xcode 4.2 for iOS development
I updated my iPhone to iOS 5.1.
My operating system is Snow Leopard.
Now I need the sdk 5.1 to develop, with xcode 4.2.
Where can I download it?
Any suggest?
Solution:
Downgrade to ios5.0 or update to Lion
To get Xcode 4.2 on Snow Leopard to run code on a device running 5.1 you can do this:
If you have another Mac running Lion + XCode 4.3.1 you can copy the files from:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/5.1 (9B176)
to the equivalent place on your SL Mac: probably
/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
and also copy version.plist from the Lion machine in the iPhoneOS.platform folder to the SL machine.
Re-start XCode on the SL machine and re-connect the devices and it seems happy enough.
[Edit: If you don't have access to a machine with Lion+4.3.1 you can get the files out of the 4.3.1 DMG which can be downloaded from Apple here: http://adcdownload.apple.com/Developer_Tools/xcode_4.3.1_for_lion/xcode_4.3.1_for_lion.dmg
then mount the DMG, Show Package Contents on the XCode icon and drill down to
/Volumes/Xcode/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport to
find the files mentioned above.]
In steps:
Stop XCode on SL machine
Disconnect your iphone
Mount the Xcode 4.3.1 image (.dmg that you can download from Apple dev site)
Show package contentes of the Xcode 4.3.1
copy XCode/Xcode/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/5.1 (9B176)
to <HD>/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
copy XCode/Xcode/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/version.plist
to <HD>/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/
Start Xcode
connect your iphone and it should work.
You can't.
You need to update to Mac OS 10.7 Lion in order to get the latest version of Xcode with the 5.1 SDK.
The last installable version of Xcode on Snow Leopard will be 4.2. Apple really wants developers to keep up to date on everything, whether MacOS or iOS.
If you want to stay on Snow Leopard, download the iOS 5.0.1 firmware of your device on this link : http://www.iphonefirmware.com/firmwares-download.
And do a manual restore on iTunes.
I did it today (March 8, 2012) on my iPad 2 and it works, Apple still seems to sign this iOS version.I guess not for a long time, so do it quickly.
iOS 5.1 is only avalaible in xCode 4.3.1, and its only avalaible in Lion, sorry.
YOu can try changing the version of your mac and faking it to install 4.3.1, but I cannot assure you its going to work...
Currently I am using Xcode 3 and iOS SDK 4.2 on Snow Leopard. I am planning to download and install Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3.
I would like to know if Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3 are compatible with Snow Leopard.
Yes..You will have separate .dmg available for download when you visit iOS developer center X-Code download link.
Please do note that the X-Code 4.2 will have iOS 5 simulator and library only. If you want lower version simulator and library with X-Code just goto X.Code->Prefrences-> Downloads Tab. In downloads tab you'll have two tabs:
1) Components - Here you will have option to download iOS 4.3 simulator(~600 Mb), iOS 4.0-4.1(~670 MB) Device debugging support, iOS 3.0-3.2.2(686.3 MB) Device debugging support.
2) Documentation- Yoy will have option to download iOS 5.0,XCode 4.2 Developer libaray,Mac OSX 10.7 Core Library.
Install the components which ever you need and there you go..
Hope that helps.
There's a specific version of Xcode 4.2 (and likely earlier versions) that can be used on Snow Leopard. That's the version I use on my iMac. Note that you can use 4.2 w/iOS5 SDK and still deploy on older devices (and even download the 4.3 simulator) in case you cannot find Xcode 4.
However you cannot use (download) the one from the AppStore which is Lion-specific. To find the Snow Leopard specific version log into Apple's developers portal and you'll see separate links for SL and Lion.
Yes, it's compatible. Download the XCode 4.2 .dmg from the iOS dev program portal, which includes the iOS 5.0 SDK.
http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/download.action?path=/Developer_Tools/xcode_4.2_with_ios_5_sdk/xcode_4.2_and_ios_5_sdk_for_snow_leopard.dmg
Yes, but only if you have the correct download from Apple.
There are currently 2 separate dmg downloads for the SDK and Xcode installer from the enrolled Developer web site, one for Lion and one for Snow Leopard. The download for Lion is only compatible with Lion. The download for Snow Leopard is only compatible with Snow Leopard. The installer from the App store might be for Lion only, so you may have to sign up for the developer program to get the other installer.
Apple usually removes (or hides) downloads for previous versions of the SDK, so if you didn't download the correct installer dmg (with the SDK for iOS 4.x) for the Mac OS of interest in time, you won't have a compatible installer.
