NSString to NSDate conversion
NSString *dateString = #"6:30 18 Oct";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"hh:mm dd/MMM"];
NSDate *dateFromString = [[NSDate alloc] init];
dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
[dateFormatter release];
Try this
NSDateFormatter *dateFormat = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormat setDateFormat:#"hh:mma dd/MMM"];
NSString *dateString = [dateFormat stringFromDate:today];
NSLog(#"date: %#", dateString);
[dateFormat release];

How to change the date format in iphone sdk
Actually I'm getting a string in 24 Hours time format. I want to display 12 hours time format.
Here's my input :
2012-10-19T04:10:00
2012-10-06T14:00:00
I would like to have the following format :
10-19-2012 4:10 AM
10-06-2012 2:00 PM
:use the NSDateFormatter to change the date
Here Your input:
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss"];
NSDate *Yourcurrenttime = [dateFormatter dateFromString:Yourstring];
And date converted to the String ..
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatterNew = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatterNew setDateFormat:#"mm-dd-yyyy hh:mm a"];
NSString *stringForNewDate = [dateFormatterNew stringFromDate:Yourcurrenttime];
Use NSDateFormatter with format type dd-MM-yyyy hh:mm:ss a.
Hope this helps you..
NSDate *currentDate = [NSDate date];
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"dd-MM-yyyy hh:mm a"]; //You can set different formats for the date
NSLog(#"Current Date %#",[formatter getStringFromDate:currentDate"]);
[formatter release];
In most cases, you’d just need to use the default styles defined in NSDateFormatterStyle.
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterMediumStyle];
[dateFormatter setTimeStyle:NSDateFormatterShortStyle];
NSLog(#"%#", [dateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]]);
[dateFormatter release];
// Output: Dec 2, 2008 3:58 PM
also you can get output from coding with DateFormatter like bellow..
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init] autorelease];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"MM-dd-yyy HH:mm:s a"];
NSString *convertedString = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:[NSDate date]];
NSLog(#"Converted String : %#",convertedString);

Also see the below date and time format styles

You can set it like [dateFormat setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterShortStyle];

NSString *dateWithInitialFormat = #"2011-08-25 18:30:00 +0000";
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss Z"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateWithInitialFormat];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"MM/dd/yyyy"];
NSString *dateWithNewFormat = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date];
NSLog(#"dateWithNewFormat: %#", dateWithNewFormat);
From NSLog: dateWithNewFormat: 08/25/2011
See Date Format Patterns
You need to use an NSDateFormatter and set the date format to match how you're storing it, like the below.
NSDateFormatter *df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[df setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss"];
NSDate *myDate = [df dateFromString: myDateString];
NSDateFormatter* df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[df setDateFormat:#"MMMM dd, yyyy"];
NSDate* d = [df dateFromString:#"January 06, 1992"];
NSLog(#"%#", d);
NSDate *dispalyDate = d;
NSDateFormatter *dateFormat = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormat setDateFormat:#"dd MMM"];
NSString *str = [dateFormat stringFromDate:dispalyDate];
NSLog(#"%#", str);
I am using the below code:
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterFullStyle];
NSDate *today=[NSDate date];
NSString *string = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:today];
NSLog(#"%#",string);
[dateFormatter release];
This will not give me this format 03/20/11 11:24 AM(MONTH/DATE/YEAR HOUR:MIN), if i convert system date and time so the converted string should have such type of information 03/20/11 11:24 AM(MONTH/DATE/YEAR HOUR:MIN).? What should i do?
you should set the date format as,
[dateFormat setDateFormat:#"dd/MM/YYYY hh:mm a"];
Try doing this and u will get the format
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"MM/dd/yy HH:mm"];
NSDate *today=[NSDate date];
NSString *string = [formatter stringFromDate:today];
NSLog(#"%#",string);
[formatter release];
Good Luck!
