ViewDidAppear crashes on iOS 5.0 simulator - ios5

The following code works fine from iOS 3.0 to iOS 4.3 simulator but crashes on iOS5

[super viewWillAppear:animated];
}
-(void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated {
[super viewDidAppear:animated];
[self.navigationController viewDidAppear:animate];
}
I got exc_bad_access in [self.navigationController viewDidAppear:animate] and it makes the app crashes.
It works fine without any problem in the previous verison.
This app is developed in XCode4 with deployment target 3.0. My user just found the app crashes when he upgraded his iPhone with iOS5.
I am being able to reproduce theproblem but not sure how to fix it.
Can anybody shed some light?

[self.navigationController viewDidAppear:animate]; is the problem here. In iOS 5 it's going to recursively call this view controller's viewDidAppear method over and over until it just crashes. Why exactly do you need to call viewDidAppear manually on your navigation controller? If it's actually necessary to get your code working, you might want to backtrack a bit as something else must be wrong if you're needing to do this.
One other thing that's just good housekeeping: in your viewWillAppear, [super viewWillAppear:animated]; should come first it that method.

cut/copy/paste functionality stopped working in my iOS application

UPDATE: cut/copy/paste disabled in my app.
I am confused with my iOS app while developing for iPhone devices. Execution flow enters a point like the code below
[self navigationController] pushViewController:chooseDeviceView animated:YES];
[chooseDeviceView release];
[numberTextField setText:#""];
The view changes and things "work properly". The problem is that after this the cut/copy/paste functionality is missing in my app.
Don't really know how to start debugging the issue. Does it ring a bell to anybody?
That was a very complicated issue for a beginner. Finally the issue was a little bit related with status message corrupts main window in my iPhone app
Add in your new viewController this:
- (BOOL)canBecomeFirstResponder {
return YES;
}
It should solve your issue.

iPod Touch iOS 5.1.1 Not calling viewDidDisappear:animated

I've posted this question elsewhere, but as SO is such a great community I'm doing so here as well.
First up, I'm using Cocos2D 2.0-gles20 to put a multiplayer/team oriented game together.
I've been integrating GameKitHelper into the app. To date it's been working just fine on my iPhone4 and iPad2 and in the Simulator, but now when I try to use it on an iPod Touch 4th I'm getting assertions in [CCDirectorIOS startAnimation] because the app is getting a viewWillAppear when it shouldn't and no call to viewDidDisappear when it should.
The reason this matters is that these methods on the CCDirectorIOS class cause Cocos2D to start/stop animation whilst another UIKit view is in front. This is something that I've managed myself with Cocos2D-0.99 but with 2.0 it is handled nicely within the director so that each app doesn't have to handle it specifically.
The GameKitHelper class has the following methods for pushing a GKMatchmakerViewController onto the screen:

When I call showMatchmakerWithInvite, on the iPhone4, etc I see a call to viewDidDisappear: on the CCDirectorIOS object which stops animation. This is fine. When the GK view is gone, I see a call to viewWillAppear which restarts the animation. Sweet.
On the iPod Touch however, running exactly the same project, the call to viewDidDisappear is not made, but a call to viewWillAppear is, before the GK view has gone.
I can't fathom why there would be a difference. All devices are running iOS 5.1.1.
It's almost as if the behaviour of UIKit is different on the iPod Touch, but I find that hard to believe. My other thought was that I was looking at a timing issue, but I put some code in to allow the app to keep running even with the problem, but the call to viewDidDisappear never happened.
I can work around this I think by managing the start/stop of animation myself, but I would have preferred not to customise the Cocos2D code.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, being the impatient person I am, rather than leave it to others and work on something else, I nutted it out.
I turns out that the iPod Touch devices in question had multi player games disabled in the restrictions app. This seems to cause the GK view to not show "properly" and as a result the events like viewDidDisappear: and viewWillAppear: don't occur the way I was expecting.
So I've been able to revert all of my tweaks and instrumentation in the Cocos2D code, and simply apply a correction to the GameKitHelper class to ensure that if features such as multi-player are disabled, the player isn't able to request them.

iOS 5 SDK treating UIViews differently

My app which use to work perfectly being compiled in xCode 4.0.2 no longer works correcly compiled in xCode 4.2 with the new SDK.
My modal views are working very different, some states not being detected, or other dismissals not working. For example this use to work to dismiss 2 stacked modal views:

[self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];
Now this just dismisses the first view...
I've been looking for documentation on these changes but have found none. Primary app delegate seems to be working differently too.

There is a new property in iOS 5 named presentingViewController. The meaning of parentViewController got changed a bit with the new container view controller API, so it may not always be set when you think it is. That's what presentingViewController is now for.

App shows white screen on startup after upgrading to iOS 4.2

For the past few weeks I have been working on an app that uses a SoundManager class that I found via the comments of this blog post:

I was very happy with this code, until iOS 4.2 was released. After updating my iPad and Xcode correspondingly, my apps that use the SoundManager class only show the navigation bar with it's title. The rest of the screen is white. It's not iPad specific behavior. I have seen the same on an iPhone4 and an iPhone 3G that upgraded to iOS 4.2.
When running the apps in the simulator, I get the same results. The problem is that I get no error messages in the console window and no build and compile errors at all. Very frustrating and very hard to fix for an iPhone developer that started using the iPhone SDK only months ago.
Does anyone have a clue what could have gone broken and how to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

Just found the problem, with the help from a piece of code I had written down from the iPhone Developer's Cookbook.
The problem was not the SoundManager (which still works fine, fortunately!) but in the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions: method in the App Delegate class.
Here is the code that causes the problem in iOS 4.2 but still works in iOS 3.2:

The solution: remove the line that says: [nav release].
For some reason, releasing the navigation controller was not a problem in iOS 3.2.
In iOS 4.2 is makes the screen go white.
I found out that this method was the problem because it was the last method that was executed. That, in turn, I found out by adding this piece of code to every class in my project:

This piece of code logs all the methods that get called.

This method caused white screen when I launched my app. It was OK in 3.2 / 4.0 SDK. In SDK 4.3 it is causing the problem. Just comment or remove this code if you have it.
I had same problem. The problem was duplicated UIWindow.

Strange Exc Bad Access when using Init, PushViewController, Release. Anything wrong with this code?

Maybe I've been looking at this for too long ;) My app has a NavigationController and several ViewControllers. From one of the ViewControllers two levels down (mainViewController), loaded from the rootViewController, I have the code below. After the PushViewController to the dataViewController and back (e.g. back Button pressed), the app crashes.
The dataViewController loads just fine, but when the back button of the navigationController is tapped, the App crashes with Object Exception. If I remove:
[dataViewController release];
the app works fine. It's strange because the dataViewController is init'ed in the same method.
Any ideas?

Haven't even read your post. If it's Exec-Bad-Access, I have 2 words for you:
Enable NSZombies.

The problem probably arises when the dataViewController gets popped and you try to access something on it - it is already released then. You might check the console for more details - better yet, run in debug mode (debug configuration and running with debugger).
You can edit your question to show some code that is run with the back button.
You talk about releasing dataViewController but your code says detailsViewController. Did you copy and paste incorrectly or is that the mistake?
You should consider not to use app.navigationController but self.navigationController. Cleaner design. Less dependencies on the app delegate, which too often is used as a frankensteinobject that knows too much.
