Facebook og:type meta-tags - should I just make up my own? - facebook

I'm putting the required meta-tags into my pages and I have a list I saved from facebook's documentation at https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/#types
Two problems. One is that my list of business types is, in total:
bar
company
cafe
hotel
restaurant
which is a little crazy. Every type of commercial entity in the world can be categorised as one of those five things? There's not even "store"?
That list is confirmed by this page: http://www.netmagazine.com/tutorials/optimise-your-website-facebook but my second problem is, Facebook no longer seems to be providing a list at all. The documentation says it was updated a month ago.
The tutorial holds out the interesting promise that "Facebook says that it will actively monitor the most commonly used types and add them to the list of supported og:types in due course." so it seems I can make up my own, say "store" or "supermarket" and that won't be an error.
What good or harm will it do to make up my own? What does Facebook use this metadata for anyway?

Now, the list is limited of course, but you can keep it generic by stating something like og:type="website" - it may sound stupid and obvious stating website as the type, but remember tht the web isn't just about web pages - there are all sorts of media to consume.
Or, as you mention, make up your own. If you're sensible about it and specify something like og:type="ecommerce", over time, this may be something others are using and will therefore become a popular choice; with the hope it becomes adopted. If it doesn't, then there's no actual harm that can come of it.
In reality, it doesn't matter what you put there and I suspect Facebook only specifies these types because it wants to know what it's working with for its advertising activities.
But Facebook isn't the only medium that will use these tags, so don't be locked into their methods only. It's best to keep it logical and sensible.

On https://www.google.com/webmasters/markup-helper/u/0/ what data type should I use for an online course (such as https://www.udemy.com/aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate/)?
If I chose the closest, say Book Reviews, will Google think my online course is a book review instead?
The types Course and CourseInstance are currently in the pending extension (discussion about the terms), and they will likely be published (i.e., moved to core) in the next Schema.org release (3.2).
If you don’t want to wait, you could use EducationEvent for specific course instances, and CreativeWork for the creative work behind the course.

How much, what order and where to put data?

I've been updating and moving my massage business website to Wordpress. During SEO process I interested and decided to include some structured data but I'm bit confused how to do it properly. I'm going to test that stuff first on my current site.
I'm going to present information with JSON-LD and I've been reading alot of schema-org manuals and blog posts about the schemas, still they are bit vaque to me.
How much data should I provide?
I still would like to present list of services we provide and price range by currency/min/maxPrice and persons data who are working there (name, profession, phone).
Would it be wise to put that data in the <head>-section of every page?
Or just specific data to page that they relate to like staff info to "Contact Us" page and service list to "Services" page?
Is there any penalty or down sides to have all that data on every page?
How do I present personal courses that every person has taken or other studies?
How do I present those services?
Can business under that HealthAndBeautyBusiness handle 3 phone numbers with names or should I just put contact info under person's data?
Does it matter in which order I present that data?
The more data you provide, the better
Better to be specific, otherwise it could be interpreted as spam. The structured data should be closely related to the content of the page itself
You mean the employees? You could use the employee property and the alumniOf properties but that doesn't match it very well. I think such data is a bit too detailed to be described at the moment - I would omit it for the time being
List them as offers, see makesOffer property
I would limit it to 1 number
The order doesn't matter

In regards to this statement. If I were you, and I'm not, therefore I can only assume you are just learning about technologies such as json-ld and how they relate to the bigger picture that is the Semantic Web also known as Web 3.0.
It sounds like you are on the right track I would suggest additionally reading articles relating to api's as well as the http request life cycle.

Do aggregateRatings need to reference where those ratings originate or do they need to be on the same page as the individual reviews?

While the actual code markup is pretty well explained, in Google developers docs, it is unclear where in a web page or on which pages the markup needs to occur and in what relation to the actual reviews that are aggregated.
For example, I see many pages around the web that are getting rich snippets with reviews, however when you visit the page, there are no visible reviews or indication of where those reviews are coming from. (Example Google search: radio connections Los Angeles )
I think this type of implementation may be against Google guidelines, but the guidelines are unclear. Do aggregateRatings need to reference where those ratings originate? Do they need to be on the same page as the individual reviews or ratings?
I'm talking in a strict 'white-hat' way, because it seems that to get the rich snippet in Google, the aggregateRatings do not actually need to reference or be connected anything and are essentially self-contained.
The Schema.org type AggregateRating doesn’t even offer a property to reference the single ratings, or to specify the source.
On top of that, not all aggregate ratings are based on ratings that are available online. Think of ratings collected per phone, paper etc.
Anyway, the guidelines for Google’s Reviews/Ratings Rich Snippets are only documenting in which cases Google Search would consider displaying this rich snippet for your page. If you don’t follow their guidelines (e.g., you don’t provide a property "required" by Google), the worst that happens is that no rich snippet is shown (leaving aside cases of intentional misleading or spamming). Google is just one of many Schema.org consumers, and there are plenty of useful Schema.org uses that don’t necessarily comply with one of Google’s Rich Snippets.
The vocabulary Schema.org does not require any properties.

What is the significance of OrderedFriendsListInitialData?

When you're logged in, in the page source, there is a list called OrderedFriendsListInitialData.
According to rumour, it's a list of people that visit your profile the most, others say that it's a list of profiles you view the most, and yet other say it's the friends you interact with the most.
Can anyone shed some light on this by providing a definitive answer, or at least an educated one?

As it is JSON string obviously it has to be related, file this url is pointing at is sound notification for chat.
As You may notice it is initial data not chat list probably later chat script use this data to fill up people on list and make some extra check etc..
There is word ordered as well, Myself I'm not really active on facebook so have no way of checking it but it is known that fb analyses all Your steps and make this list based on thousands of factors to provide You with list of users You are likely to chat.
You father may be there because fb knows You are family and consider it as high possibility of conversation.

Well in the time passed since you first posted this they've changed the name of the list to InitialChatFriendsList which I suppose is a little more descriptive of what it is, but as far as how they determine what to put on there I think my friends and I have come up with a very plausible explanation.
When determining who you are most likely to communicate with on their chat system, facebook will obviously use a whole number of factors weighted differently to determine who you most want to talk to and who you most need to talk to.
the most important is who you actually talk to... who on fb chat that you communicate with most frequently will obviously show up on your chat list.
who you have public interactions w/ (i.e tagging in at some location, picture tagging, actual wall comments etc.)
Now those two are two very large factors when determining who they put on your list, beyond that it is a combination of who looks at your page and whose page you look at. Based on my list and the list of my friends, we determined that if you are inclined to look at somebody else's page/posts a lot and they are likely to do the same for you, they will move up in rank even if you don't have an actual interactions on facebook. A couple of people who I would admit to "stalking" the most on fb are not even on my list (at least not on the top 50 which is where i stopped checking) while other people who I do occasionally look at and I have reason to believe they would be looking at my profile as well are fairly high on my list (around 10-15th place). And of course there are the completely random individuals who show up on the list who probably are stalkers.
Anyways, my point is there are so many factors that determine who is going to be on this list, you really can't just attribute it all to people who stalk you and people you stalk. While in for some people that would be the case, for most of the people on the list there is a whole list of reasons they're on there.
Of course this is all based on a very small pool of data, so who knows...
I think it may be the list of people who are on the top part of your chat list - the people you're statistically most likely to talk to. But! I may be wrong.
It definitely is the people who facebook considers are the most likely you are going to chat with. There are two lists of people in chat, one of the above, and the other friends who are online.
I believe the first 3 are accurate. When I checked for myself, my boyfriend was one, and my two best friends were 2 & 3. Everything after that seems to be a bit random, because #4 was a person I haven't interacted with for years.

Webservice standards and DTDs

While brainstorming about six years ago, I had what I thought was a great idea: in the future there could be webservice standards and DTDs that effectively turn the web into a decentralized knowledgebase. I listed several areas where I thought this could be applied, one of which was:
For making data avail. directly from a business's website: open hours, locations, and contact phone numbers. Suggest a web service standard by which businesses have a standard URL extended off the main (base) URL for there website, at which is located a webservice. That webservice as well has a standardized set of services for downloading a list of their locations, contact telephone numbers, and business hours.
It's interesting looking back at these notes now since this is not how things have evolved. Instead of businesses putting this information on only their website then letting any search engine or other data aggregator to crawl it, they are updating it separately on their website, their Facebook page, and Google Maps. Facebook and Google Maps, due to their popularity, have become the solution to the problem I though my idea would solve.
Is the way things are better than the way I thought they could be? If so then why doesn't my idea fit the reality? If not then what's holding my idea back from being realized?
A lot of this information is available via APIs, that doesn't mean that it doesn't get put other places as well, through a variety of means. For example, a company may expose information via an API, and their Facebook app might use that API to populate a Facebook page.
Also, various microformats are in use that encapsulate some of this information.
The biggest obstacle is agreeing on what meta-information should be exposed, how it should be exposed, and how it should be accessed.
