How to programmatically create check-in place on Facebook? - facebook

How do you programmatically create a check-in place on Facebook? The graph API allows you to check-in on existing place (which is represented by a page. You pass coordinates and server returns an array with places with given accuracy and then you can select where to check-in). What I need is to be able to pass coordinates (long and lat) and either check-in if the page of place is exists or create new (I have all the information, ie. address, phone, id etc.).

Unfortunately you can't do it with current FB public API.
There is a bug report: http://bugs.developers.facebook.net/show_bug.cgi?id=13388
See also discussion on: http://forum.developers.facebook.net/viewtopic.php?id=82074
You may also try as workaround use webview showing touch.facebook.

You cannot create new places via the API, only check into existing places.

Facebook URL Graph Search - Page Queries

I am looking to generate a list of URLS or FB ID's for a set of existing Facebook Pages. Ultimately the initial query I am looking to run is simple: Find all NEW facebook pages created in City XYZ.
The term NEW, is open to interpretation. It could mean "Created this month" Or newer relative others in a set (these details are not important at the moment) . Also, "Pages" refers to fan pages (not user profiles).
I have identified 3 possible approaches. Both of which I am hoping to get some input on. Regarding feasibility and process.
Option 1) Somehow leverage Facebook's Graph API and develop some time of web application to generate a list of all Pages, then filter by city, then filter by date created.
Option 2 (Best Case)) Write or generate a custom Graph Search URL with embedded search criteria and leverage FBs existing search feature to get results. A great example of this approach is used by the tool searchisback.com. Only this tool is used to do advanced searches on People, but I need advanced searches on Pages.
Option 3) Locate a tool that already does this that I can use.
I again hoping to get some input and possible some direction/recommendations.
I should also mention that I actually know very little about Facebook APIs and Facebook Development. My position right now is of some who knows what they want to do, but no idea how to do it.
Option 1: Not possible, you can only search for Pages by name, the Graph Search is not available with the API. Those are all the options: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/using-graph-api#search
Option 2: See answer to option 1.
Option 3: There are tools that list Pages, but they all have to add them manually. So there is not really a tool that does what you want to achieve.
In short: What you want to do is not possible.

Query near public events via Facebook API v2.2

I want to retrieve a list of upcoming public events in my hometown from the Facebook Graph API.
I already know that FQL is deprecated and that I can query by keywords using a statement similar to
/v2.2/search?type=event&q=Berlin&since=2015-01-27
However, this list is not enough because there are lots of events which do not contain the City Name either in the event title, description or Location name.
On the other hand I can retrieve a list of places within the same City by using
/v2.2/search?type=place&since=2015-01-27&center=52.52,13.41&distance=10000
In my assumption I could retrieve a better event list if I create a query stating "give me all public events (eid) of all given places within this city in a specified distance".
Does anybody know if this is somehow possible to query?
I am unsure if batch processing is the right way to go, or if there is another possibility to Combine These two entities. My simple Approach would be to query each given Place again by requesting
/v2.2/{placeid}/events
but I also know that Facebook has a rate Limit of 50 requests in this case.
Right now Facebook doesn't have a way to do what you want or at least not documented.
The only way I think you could it is:
1- Find with the facebook API the pages in one city. (You can do do this manually or search for places near the city and then use the places that also ara pages)
2- Get the events of the pages (if exists) and save this in a db also with the location of the place/page.
3- Show all the events of the city.

Google Analytics API, filter by parameter

Our app uses the Google Analytics Rest API. We'd like to get the number of page views generated by different links to the site.
For example, one link to our site might be:
http://oursite.com?linknum=12345
and another might be:
http://oursite.com?linknum=23456
We'd like to track the number of page views by all visitors who click on each link, so we need a way to filter by parameter.
So far, we just get the number of page views for all visitors without any filters:
curl 'https://www.googleapis.com/analytics/v3/data/ga?ids=ga:(our id) &metrics=ga:pageviews&start-date=2014-4-26&end-date=2011-12-08&access_token=(our access token)'
The best way to learn the API is to use the query explorer at
http://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/explorer/
For your analysis, add dimension=ga:pagePath and sort=ga:pageviews.
In addition, you could ask for pages which match a filter expression.
For example filter=ga:pagePath=#linknum to only include pages with linknum.

defining object types in open graph for facebook application

I wish to develop an application(facebook) which can publish the current actions of user on my website to his timeline.
Currently , I am able to post updates , but they are not dynamic. I mean I am unable to post the exact price and product name as searched by our user.
I will explain a bit through an example pic
I have set two custom properties Product:prodname and Product:price thinking that it will help me in sending the actual product user has searched and the price of the result he had obtained.
Now, I wish the preview to accept 2 variables prodname and price.
Am I on the right path ? Because facebook is not accepting the singular noun I submitted !
Please suggest and comment, if I am unclear in my question !!
I resolved my problem. The mistake I was doing was that I was setting custom properties to the product(object). However, actually, we need to add custom properties to the compare(action) instead. Finally we need to send the value of the custom properties to the open graph. Just concat it with the open graph url.
Here is a pic explaining the same :-
Snapshot of the page defining the object :-
Snapshot of the part defining the object preview:-
and then the final desired result :-
I don't think the Open Graph supports adding custom properties like that.
You should edit the Preview object to fill out the data or using an existing Product object url.

How to access links provided on one's timeline?

I would like to have access to the links one shared on their timeline.
Using the API Graph Explorer, I see there is a way to access "links". However, it returns empty data. I believe that this might have been used when posting links in FB was done in a special way, different than posting "usual" status.
Then, I thought, I should probably get all the stream and filter the data for links. But at that point, I'm a little confused:
There are THREE different actions that seem to provide the very same data:
- .../me/posts
- .../me/statuses
Are they actually all the same?
In addition, all seem to provide me information that is not up to date, but is true for some point in the near past. Moreover, I would like to know how I can get the relevant data from the beginning of the FB usage, or at least, for a given period of time.
Do an HTTP Get to me/links to get the most recent links the user has shared.
To limit it to a timeframe, you can do me/links?since=YYY&until=ZZZ.
Or you can use the paging object to get the previous and next url to use to get that other page of data.
