I have a number of tabs in my app. The tabs are working with no issues, but I'm getting some warning messages (in the title above) which I would like to get rid of. My code is as follows:
-(void)pressItem1:(id)sender {
[self presentModalViewController:settingsViewController animated:YES];
}
-(void)pressItem2:(id)sender {
[self presentModalViewController:infoViewController animated:YES];
}
-(void)pressItem3:(id)sender {
[self presentModalViewController:aboutViewController animated:YES];
}
-(void)viewDidLoad {
self.view.backgroundColor = [[UIColor alloc] initWithPatternImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"background.png"]];
CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 480, 49);
UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
UIImage *i = [UIImage imageNamed:#"smallMenuBackground.png"];
UIColor *c = [[UIColor alloc] initWithPatternImage:i];
v.backgroundColor = c;
[c release];
[mainTabBar insertSubview:v atIndex:0];
[v release];
[settingsBarItem setAction:#selector(pressItem1:)];
[infoBarItem setAction:#selector(pressItem2:)];
[aboutBarItem setAction:#selector(pressItem3:)];
//initialSyncSwitch = NO;
[super viewDidLoad];
}
The tabs are working, but there is probably a better way of doing it so I don't get these warnings.
Regards,
Stephen
You don't set actions directly on a UITabBarItem. Instead, you should be implementing the UITabBarDelegate in the UIViewController that creates it. Specifically, the delegate should implement:
- (void)tabBar:(UITabBar *)tabBar didSelectItem:(UITabBarItem *)item
In here, you can call pressItem1, pressItem2, etc based on which item is passed.

Hi in the main WiewController in the viewDidLoad i set up a
UIGestureRecognizer *recognizer = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:#selector(processTap)];
and then i a for loop i create UIViews and add them to a scroll view, that is then added to the main view.
UIView *newsContainer = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(160 * countnews, 30, 156, 126)];
newsContainer.tag = countnews;
newsContainer.userInteractionEnabled = YES;
[newsContainer addGestureRecognizer:recognizer];
[tempScroll addSubview:newsContainer];
then i have a function
- (void)processTap:(UITapGestureRecognizer *)recognizer {
UIView *view = recognizer.view;
NSLog(#"HELLO, %d", view.tag);
}
Which never gets called, any suggestions? your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
You also have forgotten colon:
initWithTarget:self action:#selector(processTap:)
EDIT2:
You have created _detailsView (with assigned UITapGestureRecognizer) but have not added it to any subview. How it will work?
I think the problem is that the scrollView, which contains your views, has its own internal gesture recognizer that is "taking away" touch events from your tap gesture recognizer. Try implementing the following gesture recognizer delegate method:
- (BOOL)gestureRecognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer *)gestureRecognizer shouldRecognizeSimultaneouslyWithGestureRecognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer *)otherGestureRecognizer {
return YES;
}
Have you checked the Interaction setting?
Interaction shall be set to "User Interaction Enabled" in the Attributes inspector for the image.
Change #selector(processTap) to #selector(processTap:)
Because now you calling method that doesn't exist.
try this code
UITapGestureRecognizer *gestureRecognizer = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:#selector(processTap)];
[newsContainer addGestureRecognizer::gestureRecognizer];
gestureRecognizer.cancelsTouchesInView = NO;
I assume the problem is, you might have missed to add <UIGestureRecognizerDelegate> in the header file.
You're adding a UIGestureRecognizer to a UIWebview, which is not recommended. UIWebview has its ownUIGestureRecognizer`s which are tricky to over-ride. See this SO question for more info.
you can first add your gestureRecognizer to self.view and check your method called or not... as well check this thread
Issue with a UITapGestureRecognizer
I'm trying to add a view behind my grouped UITableView. Unfortunately, whenever I scroll, the background view moves as well. This happens even when I use [self.view insertSubview:backgroundView belowSubview:_tableView], or [_tableView setBackgroundView:backgroundView]. Why is this background view scrolling? Also, why does my tableView scroll, even though I have disabled scrolling? Are these related?
In app Delegate:
History *historyController = [[History alloc] init];
UINavigationController *nc = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:historyController];
In History.m:
- (void)viewDidLoad {
CGRect frame = self.view.frame;
frame.origin.x = 0;
frame.origin.y = 0;
_tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:frame style:UITableViewStyleGrouped];
_tableView.delegate = self;
_tableView.dataSource = self;
[_tableView setScrollEnabled:NO];
[_tableView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
_tableView.separatorStyle = UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleNone;
UIView *bg = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
[bg setBackgroundColor:[UIColor scrollViewTexturedBackgroundColor]];
UIImageView *iv = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"CenterFade.png"]];
iv.alpha = .750;
[bg addSubview:iv];
[iv release]; iv = nil;
[self.view addSubview:bg];
[self.view addSubview:_tableView];
[bg release]; bg = nil;
[_tableView release];
[super viewDidLoad];
}
Try
- (void)viewDidLoad {
CGRect frame = self.view.frame;
frame.origin.x = 0;
frame.origin.y = 0;
UIView *bg = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
[bg setBackgroundColor:[UIColor scrollViewTexturedBackgroundColor]];
UIImageView *iv = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"CenterFade.png"]];
iv.alpha = .750;
[bg addSubview:iv];
[iv release];
iv = nil;
_tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:frame style:UITableViewStyleGrouped];
_tableView.delegate = self;
_tableView.dataSource = self;
[_tableView setScrollEnabled:NO];
[_tableView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
_tableView.separatorStyle = UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleNone;
[bg addSubview:_tableView];
[_tableView release];
_tableView = nil;
[self.view addSubview:bg];
[bg release];
bg = nil;
[super viewDidLoad];
}
If your controller is an UITableViewController just change it to an UIViewController<UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDatasource> with a tableView property (It's the same)
I don't know why this is happening, but for some reason self.view is a UITableView and not a UIView. Creating a new UIView and setting it to self.view fixed the problem. I am not using a UITableViewController, but a UIViewController. No idea where the UITableView is coming from!
set [_tableView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
and then put your background view under UITableView in UIViewController view hierarchy.
UITableView has a backgroundView property.
Swift:
var backgroundView: UIView?
Objective-C
#property(nonatomic, readwrite, retain) UIView *backgroundView
This view will not be moved when you scroll the tableView
I am write this code but the warning is show "insertSubview" may not respond
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 480, 49);
UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
UIImage *i = [UIImage imageNamed:#"GO-21-TabBarColorx49.png"];
UIColor *c = [[UIColor alloc] initWithPatternImage:i];
v.backgroundColor = c;
[c release];
[[self tabBar] addSubview:v];
[v release];
}
Did you try
[[self tabBar] insertSubview:v atIndex:0];
Instead of addSubview:

Okay, a short breif of my app before i explain the problem.
My app has two views for it's custom TableViewCell, one frontview, and one backview(which is revealed once you swipe your finger across the cell, much like the twitter-app).
Anywho, i wanted to have some buttons on the backview. I did this in the cellForRowAtIndexPath-method
The first you'll see here is how i assign labels to the cells. The secondary thing you'll see is the button. It's working fine.
UILabel *nextArtist = [UILabel alloc];
nextArtist.text = #"Rihanna";
nextArtist.tag = 4;
[cell setNextArtist:nextArtist];
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
button.frame = CGRectMake(6 ,31, 110, 20);
[button setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"radionorge.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(touched:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[cell.backView addSubview:button];
But, it's in the next method the problem occours.
-(void)touched:(id)sender {
// Here i want to get the UILabels for each cell. Such as nextArtist.
if ([sender isKindOfClass:[UIButton class]]) {
UIButton *button = (UIButton *)sender;
UIView *contentView = button.superview;
UIView *viewWithTag4 = [contentView viewWithTag:4];
if ([viewWithTag1 isKindOfClass:[UILabel class]]) {
UILabel *titleLabel = (UILabel *)viewWithTag4;
NSLog(#"Label: ",titleLabel.text);
}
}
}
So, i realised that i cannot just go to the superview of the button and find my labels there, because their in another subview. I have scanned all my views, but still cannot find the label.
I am very new at this, and the subclassing of the TableView-cell is something i implemented from someone who posted their code.
But, my assumption is that there are noe UILabels in my view, because i am not adding them as views, only drawing them, with the drawTextInRect-function.
[nextArtist drawTextInRect:CGRectMake(boundsX+200 ,46, 110, 15)];
I have tried to adding them as subviews, but with no luck. Could anyone help me?

[self setContentViewMoving:NO];
[self setSelected:NO];
[self setShouldSupportSwiping:YES];
[self setShouldBounce:YES];

}

}
Please help me, or at least point me in a direction or two!

You just forgot to init your UILabel in your very first line of code. :)
At the first look, I can be sure that if you draw the text (and the text is not the label), then there is no UILabel at all in your cell. You can ignore that way.
So, if you don't have the UILabel, how you can get the text. Because your contentView is indeed a RadioTableCellView, then it is not hard. In your class, just public a property called nextArtist. When your button is tapped, look up for the contentView (by calling some superview), cast it to RadioTableCellView then get the nextArtist out
Without writing a bunch of code, here's my best guess.
You're going to need to assign tags to aView and anotherView in your initWithStyle: method. I'm going to assume you have a couple constants: BACK_VIEW_TAG and FRONT_VIEW_TAG.
In your touched: method, walk up the view hierarchy until you find your UITableViewCell.
UIView *currentView = button.superView;
while (![currentView isKindOfClass:UITableViewCell] && currentView != nil) {
currentView = currentView.parent;
}
Get the front view and back view (or which ever you want) from the table cell's contentView using the tags.
if (currentView != nil) {
UITableViewCell *cellView = (UITableViewCell *)currentView)
UIView *cellContentView = cellView.contentView;
UIView *backView = [cellContentView viewWithTag:BACK_VIEW_TAG];
UIView *frontView = [cellContentView viewWithTag:FRONT_VIEW_TAG];
// Get other views from frontView and backView using viewWithTag:.
}
Note that you should be adding views to your UITableViewCell subclass's contentView, not to the UITableViewCell directly. See Programmatically Adding Subviews to a Cell’s Content View for details.
I have a subclass of UIButton called INMenuCard and I am overriding the initWithFrame to include an activity indicator. The menuCard places correctly but any internal reference to "frame" give me "inf,inf,0,0" which means my activityIndicator subview is not placed correctly. What might I be missing?
#implementation INMenuCard
- (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame
{
if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame])
{
CGRect innerFrame = CGRectInset(frame, 50.0f, 100.0f);
activityIndicator = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc]
initWithFrame:innerFrame];
activityIndicator.activityIndicatorViewStyle = UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhite;
[self addSubview:activityIndicator];
}
return self;
}
I am instantiating INMenuCard with (debugging shows the CGRect values are correct):
CGRect cardFrame = CGRectMake(cardX, cardStartY, cardWidth, cardHeight);
INMenuCard *menuCard = [[INMenuCard buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] initWithFrame:cardFrame];
[theView addSubView:menuCard];
Should you be calling initWithFrame on something that is already init'ed?
It seems to me that the line [INMenuCard buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] is calling the UIButton's shortcut which does the [[UIButton alloc] init] for you.
