Can i use Google Apps as a fail-over mailserver? - email

I have my own exchange for emails. There are times when my exchange service is down (because of power failure or maintanance) and during this time, my users do not have access to the exchange web access. To keep the user experience consistant, I was wondering if I can setup something like this:-
If my exchange server is down, google apps takes over and start relaying my mails. Users could log into google apps gmail account to send / receive mails. Once the exchange server is back online, they can continue using the exchange web access.
Please let me know if this is possible at all.

Email succesfully sent but not appear in Sent Items (Microsoft 365)

Hi Good day to everyone here.
My first questions, here we go but i'll try to explain it the best way I could.
I develop auto sending email features using javaxmail in my application for my customer.
Previously when using setting smtp.office365.com I able to send email and the copies of sent email are display in Sent Items folder.
Recently when there are hiccup with smtp office (time out frequently), the IT department at my customer change the setting to use local server instead for smtp (with ip address 172.162.etc.etc). However since the start using this new setting, the email no longer appear in Sent Items but the email still able to sent out ( I test sending email to myself and able to received it ).
Since Im not really familiar and have very limited knowledge on server side for mail server, is there anything I can suggest to the IT department to check for? I only can login the email account on web (https://outlook.office.com/mail/) but when using outlook it required authentication. With web mail i already go thru all settings available and didn't see anything related.

Well, of course - your local SMTP server knows absolutely nothing about your remote Exchange mailbox. It cannot possibly place anything in your Sent Items folder.
You need to send using your Exchange Server - its SMTP server does place sent messages in the Sent Items folder owned by the authenticated user. Keep in mind that MS has recently disabled basic auth in M365. You need to re-enable it for your tenant and the particular mailbox used to send messages.

How to migrate Notes mail agents to Microsoft Exchange (i.c. Office365)?

A client insists on moving from Notes/Domino to Office365 (no further comments on that please). There are some mail agents that provide automated functionality. In one case, it is an agent in a mail database that, when it receives a mail, it responds with a mail that contains a unique reference for the mail just received. It's their way to generate unique mail references.
How to create an alternative solution, in Office 365? Can one develop an agent in Office365?
If it must be an equivalent solution, does it have to be an Outlook client that's always on?
Or are there other ways to generate reply mails from a special mail account?
Can one send a mail to an SQL server, for instance?

I'd do some research into what's currently available for Office365 users via Exchange Web Services - or better yet, the Exchange Web Services Managed API.
Assuming that you Office365 gives you full access through Exchange Web Services, you can write code to use the subscription/notification services for the mailboxes that you want to monitor, and then have your code send the emails.
There may also be better ways.

How to create an email account and set up email receiver when using AWS EC2 and SES?

So we are planning to use AWS SES for sending emails. But how do we set up the email receivers? And how do we create an email accounts? When activating AWS SES, it asks to verify an email account (eg. help#example.org)...
I tried to create a mail server on one of the instances using postfix following this article: http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/, but it's not easy at all... Does anybody know any better alternatives?

SES is for sending email only. As you note, you must have some other way set up to receive email at least at the "From" address you intend to use, because Amazon will verify it before letting you send.
While you certainly could set up an email server and domain on an EC2 instance, it's very complicated. I recommend that you get an email service for just that purpose. If you only need a single address for all your messages, just get a free address from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.
If you need multiple addresses, consider getting Google Apps for Business, either for an existing or new domain name (it's easiest to set up if you have it register a new domain name for you). It's no longer free, but it's still quite cheap. A single user account can receive emails for every address in the domain, it's flexible, and it's reliable. It's a good companion to using SES for sending automated emails.
Use Amazon WorkMail if you prefer AWS. Gmail for work, Office 365, Hostgator, are some other examples. FYI, none of these providers simply provide domain emails. They come bundled with many other things such as chat clients, calenders, etc. Pricing of these services depends on what other things they are bundled with.

Since you are in AWS cloud, I will tell you a few things about Amazon WorkMail.
You get your own domain and 50GB of storage per user.
You get calendars for free.
You cannot use just any desktop mail client. You have to either use Outlook, or Mac's mail client, or the web interface. This is their weakest point. However, including other IMAP clients is in their roadmap (I guess atleast a year).

There are many more features such as remotely removing emails from a device, managing your users, and so on.
What I can recommend you is to use Amazon WorkMail because they almost provide all the features supported by others, and you are tied with AWS anyway. AWS also recently launched Workspace and Workdocs (both separately billed) that will allow you to create a complete work solution. These services also combine nicely with IAM.

Can I use my web server as mail server?

I have a dedicated Linux web server where my website is running like www.example.com.
Now I want to start another service for my users and want to give mailing features like Gmail and Yahoo mail.
I want to give facility to my users to create email IDs as they create on Gmail or Yahoo Mail and use it as their email address like XYZ#example.com or ABC#example.com.
Is this possible for me to use my dedicated web server as mail server too,
or I need to hire a new specific mail server for this purpose.
Also, if I can use my server as mail server and can give IMAP and POP like features then what are the PROs and CONs in that?
My hosting company says that I have facility to create unlimited email addresses
and I have created a few for mt like support#example.com and feedback#example.com
and I am getting emails on these IDs.
Is that mean, my hosting already have setup a mail server for me (the same I mentioned in my question and want to setup)
Or this is just for me to use and manage my website and I can not share these email addresses with my users by giving an email service.
Yes you can run simultaneously a web and mail server. Follow part 3 of this guide: http://mysql-apache-php.com/ to set up email. Just make sure that your router is fully capable (supports NAT etc.) - it should be able anyway
However it does appear from your question that your hosting company has set up its own mail server. Which does mean unlimited emails, however the only issue could be the amount of space they are willing to host for you (As in you can only have 2 GB of space on their mail server). Hope this helps.

Send over 1000 emails per day via gmail, amazon sns, or own smtp

I'm trying to code a mail sender service. Previously I built a simple desktop application which uses my shared hosting mail server to send html mails. But now it's not enough and I plan switching to Gmail or Amazon SNS.
For Gmail I have to use min 15 different accounts to be able to send up to 1500 emails. Also sometimes gmail blocks the accounts and I have to login and change the passwords.
I've just signed up for Amazon SNS but it does not looks to what I need. You first have to subscribe users then send emails. Also emails are sent from no-reply#sns.amazonaws.com addres. Is this the all service or I can configure it as I wish?

I want a minimum cost solution. So which is best and is there a better solution?
We use Mailjet for 3 sites now. Initially we used the free plan (6000 / month) to test the set-up and reporting. Now the 3 sites are run on it. You can utilize some premium services to send 1000 emails here, daily for free
Remember, you should not spam in the services listed, just you create multiple lists in all accounts & send emails daily.
