GWT Designer m_selectedModuleFile error - gwt

This is my first time working with GWT. I am following the tutorial at: http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/tools/gwtdesigner/tutorials/stockwatcher.html
I can't get beyond the creation of the GWT Java Project. When I click Finish I get: An error has occurred. See error log for more details.
m_selectedModuleFile
and when I look at the error log I get:

Also, when do you use WinBuilder, and when should you use GWT Designer or the Web Application Project? I am unsure of the differences between them all. I'm looking for something to not an eye-sore that can be used with App Engine with some form entries.

It turns out I had an old version of WindowBuilder, and that was contributing to the problem. Not sure if that was the entire problem, though. It's worked so far.

This seems like something might be off in the install. I usually install Eclipse Java EE edition (not same as Java), then the GPE minus the Android parts (unless I need to set up for that too, then install the Android SDK before the GPE), then WindowsBuilder - for the extra wizards. After that everything just works. I create a new GWT project (using sample code - much easier that way to get started), then can use any of the wizards.

App engine Backend won't Build

I recently updated Eclipse GAE plug-in and now my mobile application backend won't build because it isn't configured as a web application. Has anyone seen this issue and, if so, what is the solution to it? I assume it is a setting but I haven't figured out where

I am almost embarrassed to say this but this was the solution to my issue:
I removed Google App Engine from my App's Build path (I don't recall putting it in), cleaned/ rebuilt it, then I went to the error log and deleted the error. Just control-click delete...
Lacing up for a few laps, if anyone comes across this issue, it could be an eclipse error or something but I am not sure.

Issue while building eclipse project with gwt plug-in

I am facing an issue every time I am saving something in java file. I know the error message is coming from gwt plug-in.

For me option -clean didn't help in every case though used several times. I found out that in my case the root cause of the NoClassDefError was a NullPointerException:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/google/gdt/eclipse/suite/preferences/GdtPreferences
at com.google.gdt.eclipse.suite.ext.update.FeatureUpdateManager.checkForUpdates(FeatureUpdateManager.java:105)

at com.google.gdt.eclipse.core.markers.GdtProblemSeverities.loadSeverities(GdtProblemSeverities.java:144)
And when it occured in one workspace it occured in every workspace so I took a look into the Eclipse "installation". There is a file named
configuration/.settings/com.google.gdt.eclipse.suite.prefs
and it a line like this:
problemSeverities=com.google.gwt.eclipse.core.validators.rpc.RemoteServiceProblemType\#305\=1
After removing that link my Eclipse started without problems ... but with modified settings in Window/Preferences/Google ... I haven't found out how to specify those severity settings in the file to be parsed without an Exception.
Workaround solution that may work:
Close all projects, close eclipse.
Start eclipse using, "eclipse -clean" option.
You can try repeating the process 2-3 times, if it does not work first time.
Not sure of the exact reason why this appears.

Eclipse cant find some of the JUnit files

I have a maven project with spring. And we also have alot of JUnit test classes. We are using Eclipse. Every now and then - quite often actually - eclipse shows some (not all) of the test classes as red... Claiming it cant find imports. Looking at Eclipse error log, I can see alot of these error messages (but for different test-classes ofc).
What is happening? My collegue who works with the same project does not get this error. We are using Eclipse Juno SR2.

The problem could be in the jars dependencies (especially if you're using mocks). You need to perform two steps to figure out what the problem is:
1.Run unit tests using maven (in case it works you can go to step2);
2. Look into jars order in the Eclipse (projects setting-> java build path-> order and settings).
In case you said that it works for your colleague you need to compare order of your jars with jar's order of you colleague

Problem running a GWT 2.4 App on Tomcat

I have a problem running my gwt2.4rc1 application in a tomcat. The problem occurs when I try to make a requestfactory call. Then I get the exception at the bottom.
When I run GWT in development mode everything works fine. The gwt-dev. jar is in the lib folder of my webapp. I am using maven for dependency management. Could there be a problem with my configuration? I already had the error with gwt2.4 beta. If there are any other information required to solve this problem I am glad to provide them.

Arne

There's a fix for this on its way over from RC to trunk. In the mean time, remove gwt-servlet from your dependencies and use requestfactory-servlet.jar instead.
I've always understood gwt-dev.jar to be the compiler and other development tools. If you believe that, there should be no dependency on it from your own code, and there is no reason for it to be in the WEB-INF/lib folder of your war file.
I see from this question that at least one other contributer to SO feels the same way, but the belief doesn't appear to be universal.
I'll update this answer if I can find anything one way or the other in the GWT docs.
Update:
The closest thing I could find was Organize Projects which shows gwt-dev as a referenced library not present in WEB-INF/lib. I can't find anything official that says either that you can or can't deploy it to your web server. In an old book GWT In Action (Hanson, 2007), page 551 says
You should never deploy the gwt-user.jar and gwt-dev.jar files to your server,
because they will interfere with your server; these JAR files contain their own
Tomcat server code, which is used when you're testing in hosted mode.
This is clearly out of date, since hosted mode isn't called that anymore and uses an embedded Jetty server rather than Tomcat, but that's the basis for my belief.
Ok I made it working :)
I used the gwt version compiled from here:
http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/source/browse/#svn%2Freleases%2F2.4
I did put gwt-servlet.jar and requestfactory-servlet.jar as dependencies in my project. The problem in the other thread occured because I used my own group-id for the compiled jars, so these were not used by gin and the gwt-maven-plugin. No everything works fine :)
Thanks for the help though!!

Eclipse sometimes behaves in weird manner. All all your source code folders ok? Please check all folder first. If they are ok then there must be something with the core plugins OR the workspace in which you have all your projects.
First copy your workspace, then install another instance of eclipse. Try to open the workspace in that eclipse.
If that doesn't work, it seems a big problem. May be you need to import all projects again in new workspace.
For better performance, you should keep number of projects in workspace somewhat limited. It seems you have many projects inside one workspace which might cause memory problems and slower your eclipse.
I hope, this works for you.
---EDIT on 21st May,2010---
After searching it ,it seems a bug in eclipse 3.4. Thought it shows a bug of WinXP, may be it affects MAC also.
Please check the link below. They have specified version 3.4 M6.
So if you are using older version of eclipse then please get newer from this link.
Also please check to have JDK 1.6 (Stable version) installed on your mac.
Eclipse download: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
Bug: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=217707
Hope this helps.
thanks.
Can you check the Console (Applications -> Utilities -> Console.app) and see whether there are any specific messages from eclipse (and post them here if possible)?
A exception stack trace or something?
Maybe it might throw some light on whats going wrong.
