I know there is many debates on this subject, but still ... I can't make up my mind, so:
If you build a site similar to ebay (just imagine this is ebay), where objects and services can be bought or rented, would you use categories and sub-categories to classify all the objects/services, or rather tags ?

I guess there is no strict answer to this question. A tag or a category doesn't change the meaning of the object, it is just a feature of your site.
So if you tag a computer as electronics, you can also categorize it as electronics. Tags would add more meta description in addition to categories. Have you used WordPress before? Look at it. Category is central, and tagging is additional description, like keywords. They help in search, grouping, sets, etc.

I have a product consisting of hundreds of separate websites - each of which has a unique URL. Unfortunately it is not feasible for me to create a separate Facebook App ID for each website. Is it possible to configure one Facebook App ID that can be shared/used across all websites?
I know it's possible with subdomains but haven't had any luck finding much information about my situation.
Thanks!
There isn't. The only way it so redirect to a login page that is the same for all.

I wrote Hotplate, a great (and not yet complete) Nodejs framework which has, at this point, absolute 0 documentation.
It's no an "api" -- Hotplate is the kind of framework focused on "messages" being sent, and listened to, by several modules. So, documentation is tricky (it's not about documenting a bunch of functions, API-style).
My idea is to create, on Github, a site like Mongoose's:
http://mongoosejs.com/docs/guide.html
How would I do that for my own project?
Github's recommended approach is to use github pages to host Jekyll.
You can use their "Automated Page Generator" to speed up the process.

I'm looking for details about how linkedIn manages "Search Skills & Expertise". Somebody knows how tags comparison could work? On what algorithms developers could have based the tag comparing system? Something like a "binary independent model" - like? Every supposition or infos are welcome. I'm trying to think about a system that relates tag like linkedIn "Search Skills & Expertise", so I would start with some good incipit, studying some web information retrieval material and asking to someone who knows more than me about this argument.
Thank you.
Have you asked LinkedIn?
Also they recently released IndexTank as open source sorftware and this is the engine they use for searching and indexing and i suspect that would give you information as you can dow=nload and run it yourself.

I am looking for a combo box to use in a form that has a list of colleges in the US. Any directions where to find those.
Thanks.
Think I web scraped http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ/alpha/ years ago when I needed a similar list.
I finally had to scrap bits and pieces from various lists to coming up with a final one. Not sure if its shareable but until there is another resource like Great Schools, official list of colleges will be elusive.

I cannot find documentation for the actual fields of the UnicodeData.txt file.
The data is available here. The document describing it is available here but it doesn't list the actual field numbers and what the field is (like used to be in the document around version 3.0).
I've searched the site and must be missing something that is right in front of my eyes, but I can't find it.
Can someone point out where this information is now?
update
sorry, I misread the question. Still, I think the information is in the link you provided, under section UnicodeData.txt. For each field, a link inside the document lists its values if applicable. Seems to be the same list as in the 3.0 version.
